At some point it will go from fraternity house to bath house

2011-10-12 11:43:55 AM
Is it just the progressive thing that's different from the norm, then? Not sure I get it.

2011-10-12 11:44:00 AM
Fraternities always seemed kind of gay to me to begin with.

2011-10-12 11:44:25 AM
The women in sororities aren't lesbians, they are "experimenting".

/still just as hot

I am assuming that the gay frat will make the gay pledges do straight sex acts like certain people made another person do with a carrot.

2011-10-12 11:47:06 AM
Not surprised,
There is a lot of 'corn holing' in Iowa.

This could make for some brilliant comedy movie material.

What the hell does "progressive" mean in this context? Did that word start meaning ghey in the last 6 months or something?

2011-10-12 11:47:25 AM
Strange...are they TRYING to segregate themselves?

2011-10-12 11:47:29 AM
I suppose they would be pretty comfortable with Greek.

President: "Alright you pledge pukes! Time for the elephant walk!"
Pledges: *look around* "OK!"
President: "Wait, this is supposed to be hazing, not enjoyable!"

"Openly" homosexual they mean, as most frats are hotbeds of raw confused homosexuality as evidenced by their homoerotic initiation rites.

Same page, better story....
Link (new window)
And the new fraternities name is:
Red Ryder Rump Rangers ?

2011-10-12 11:48:23 AM
Meh. Every other group has a fraternity, why should the gays be any different. I for one support the expansion of the Greek system at Iowa. It seems to be in decline elsewhere.

2011-10-12 11:49:14 AM
Wait until someone straight tries to pledge and is denied...

OH...and wtf is "progressive men" supposed to mean? is that some new term applied to men in that category??

2011-10-12 11:51:00 AM
So what does this mean? Are all male fraternities finally going to stop pretending they're straight? Or just the one at the University of Iowa?

Theme housing is never really a good idea. Learn to deal with people outside your major/demographic group/dietary preference/etc at some point, man, living in theme housing is the college version of being home-schooled.

//Not that frats don't frequently turn insular as hell anyhow.

Delta Lambda Phi has been around for years on lots of campuses in unofficial capacity. they also have city based chapters. i attended one of their social functions once. trust me, these are not the kind of fun, sexy gays we all want to stereotype. they are a bunch of dorks with rules out the ass. why an self respecting gay person would want to play fraternity is beyond me.

2011-10-12 11:52:53 AM
hmmm. "out the ass" might have been a poor word choice for this thread...

Sig Ep is already a fraternity.

Yeah; closeted and self-loathing is generally more the frat boy MO.

I bet their house would be fabulous.

The gay guys already have a fraternity, it's called the soccer team...at least it was at our university.

Yes. No used being around those "straight" cockteases.

...seriously, though, "progressive"? Is that the new word for "pansexual"?

Well, they do call it the Greek system. You have to know that eventually something is going up your ass.

We had that at Yale. It was called Sigma Chi.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

2011-10-12 12:02:52 PM
There are plenty of gay guys in frats. Our national chapter was chock full of them. Nothing funnier than a bunch of career closet cases ranting about feminists and liberals trying to destroy "one of the last conservative institutions".

i remember a freshman western civ lecture at Iowa where the professor was talking about the homosexual origin of fraternities in ancient greece. all the frat boys in the hall shifted in their chairs uncomfortably. one may have even shouted, "you lie!"

Having been in a national fraternity, it was never a big issue to have gay brothers. Personally, I would say about 5%-10% of our brothers were gay, either coming out in college or afterwards. Unfortunately, a chapter president (different chapter) had sex with a pledge and the national organization had to condem it, which translated into not placing gay members into the top seven leadership positions in our chapter. Kind of a shiatty situation we had to deal with in my four years.

2011-10-12 12:08:20 PM
Ha my house in college was co-ed and probably about 70% gay or bi. Straight guys got along just fine.

2011-10-12 12:10:23 PM
What is the meaning of "progressive" in this context? Is it an euphemism for metrosexual?

I remember that class! But the student actually said "oh thtop!"

Do frats really have a purpose anymore? They used to be a thing of status for future ventures but now I just feel like it's as useless as the clubs in high school.

2011-10-12 12:16:53 PM
"What the hell is a "progressive man?"

2011-10-12 12:18:29 PM
This may take away the incentive to consume large quantities of alcohol to 'have fun'.

2011-10-12 12:23:00 PM
Hmm, deny a gay person membership, it is discrimination. Make a gay only frat, and it is okay....

What is next, a black fraternity?

Hypocrisy sucks.

I will guess that "progressive" is code for "kinda straight, but will bang anything that moves". The guys would call it "pragmatic". You might also say "slutty".

How about just telling those who do not know the current politically correct terms the hipsters use, without the perjoratives, asshat.

I say this because politically, a progressive is someone who seeks political change for the betterment of all citizens. We've only used the word in this context for about 75 years.

/doesn't care whether someone is gay and also progressive.

The question is why you would want them in a fraternity geared toward gay and bisexual men. It's like the straight man in the gay bar - pretty soon, the bar gets downgraded from "gay" to "inclusive," and you have to put up with boys kissing girls everywhere!

Democrats really like that man on man butt sex. Has anyone ever met a looney lib that didn't think that fetish was acceptable? Yecch!

I can't speak for everyone, but they had a black fraternity at Ohio University. Something something zeta, I believe. They used to throw benefit concerts at one of the bars where I worked. We also had a gay fraternity that was nationally recognized (their president was a farking midget -- we called him two strikes) but they didn't have a frat house.

I don't think frats actually have to ban people. It is a totally subjective, selective process as to whether or not you are allowed to rush a frat.

I love taking my straight friends to gay bars. They get treated like rock stars.

No, but I've seen plenty of hack trolls; 0/10.
