Well, they didn't starve to death in a mine, so they have that going for them.

I read them all, basically:

100% of them are still poor, some of them went back to mining, the bulk of them are on medical leave for PTSD. A few of them are just unemployed.

Kinda sad.

Apparently most of them have become Americans.

Oh, I've been sitting naked in an airless closet, humming show tunes and reliving my glory days.

Are we talking American poor or Chilean poor or by poor do you mean working class?

"This is very similar to how Vietnam veterans suffered," said Rodrigo Gillibrand, the psychiatrist treating the nine men on sick leave covered by labor insurance, though the mine has been closed down. "They have post-traumatic symptoms that could be chronic."

Oh my god, really? You're comparing them to Vietnam vets??

Summarizing for those not interested in clicking a dozen times to see simple paragraphs of repetitive information.

most are unemployed, living in homes provided by the mining company, being treated for post-traumatic-stress disorder and/or living on government funded pensions.

Many are "motivational speakers"

A couple are selling vegetables.

Only a handfull still work in the mining industry, one actually works underground today.

Have any of them gotten their faces blown off by pipe bombs attached to wheel chairs?

Am I the only one who noticed that they're all wearing the same kind of sunglasses...? Why would a miner need sunglasses? Was Oakley there handing out freebies for the entombed?

Waiting until it's less bright to take off sunglasses?

They had to wear the sunglasses when they were brought to the surface in order for their eyes to adjust to the "brightness".

Remember, they were underground for almost 70 days in absolute darkness.

The pictures are when they first came out of the mine. Since their eyes had not been exposed to natural light for a long time it was decided that they should wear sunglasses when they first came out to protect their eyes.
