Hey, try not to blow up any foreign diplomats on the way through the parking lot!

Attempted murder, really? Do they give a Nobel prize for attempted physics?

Does the first sentence make sense to anybody else?

"Iran plotted to assassinate Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the United States into a new global campaign to isolate the Islamic republic."

2011-10-12 09:57:52 AM
So they recruited a used car salesman to hire Mexicans for an attack on a restaurant frequented by Senators and ambassadors.

I'm not so sure about all of this.

2011-10-12 09:57:55 AM
It seems like the US is more upset about it than the Saudis.

Iran plotted to assassinate Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the United States into a new global campaign to isolate the Islamic republic.

I got a nosebleed reading that first paragraph. It's like I un-muted the TV partway through a sentence or something.

I still don't know why I should care. Weren't the 9/11 hijackers all Saudis?

Besides the USA has some warring to do against Pakistan and eventually China and we'll need Iran to be friendly or at least neutral. Seriously.

Dear Iran:

We here in the US strongly condemn these acts!

The whole thing is pretty fishy.

There are some odd drug business things going on behind the scenes of this whole thing that haven't really come out in the news yet.

My brain will need some time to recover from that first sentence.

Still, I'm a little pissed that they would carry out this bombing on US soil. Of course, if this plot had been uncovered in Saudi Arabia, the guys would have been beheaded already so maybe that's the angle.

"now"?

I just wonder where the Koch Brothers stand with all this. Iran is a major part of their business. And yes, all the 9/11 Hijackers were Saudis, Mohammad Atta was a Bashar in the Saudi intelligence service and a member of the royal family. Thats roughly equivalent to a rank of Colonel here.

Once is an anomaly. Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action.

Yes, but you have to remove all the prepositional phrases.

Didn't we just assassinate someone a week or so ago?

This is what is used to distract us while the politicians and corporations that are in bed with them (I was going to say something much ruder, but I couldn't decide who was doing it to whom) blithely steal our tax dollars.

What can I say? Don't fall for this shiat, people. These are scare tactics and shiny keys.

There is a difference. The guy we killed was a terrorist (and proud of it). They guy Iran wanted to kill was a diplomat. Apples and oranges.

The only problem with your theory is that Iran hasn't been neutral since 1979. So, there is quite the issue with your warm fuzzy feelings about Iran.

Biden called the purported plot "really over the top."

Quickly followed by "he is also a very naughty boy"

Un-possible!

The Iranian language that I've seen cited several times, describing this plot as "childrens' stories" and whatnot really has me wondering what the hell they tell their kids for bedtime stories. Of course, this is a country where you can expect to be brutally killed by your neighbors in the town square if you're a woman that has premarital sex, so perhaps they keep it real at storytime too.

yeah it all smells fishy to me. why would they risk provocation for such a target as a diplomat?

Sure. Lets just let countries attempt to blow up embassies left and right in our country, because its only fair since we attack Taliban and Al Qaida militants, that we allow people to blow our stuff up and kill people on our soil. Or are you saying that Iran is retaliating? In that case they are putting themselves on the side of Al Qaida. So really, I'm not sure what you are trying to say, but it is sounding pretty dumb.

FTFA: "The idea that they would attempt to go to a Mexican drug cartel to solicit murder-for-hire to kill the Saudi ambassador? Nobody could make that up, right?" Clinton said shortly after U.S. prosecutors accused two suspected Iranian agents of trying to murder Saudi envoy Adel Al-Jubeir.

She doesn't sound conviced...i think someone just got added to the secret drone kill list.

Lipo: They guy Iran wanted to kill was a diplomat. Apples and oranges.

Not really, on the apples and oranges thing. It's a complex game. Take one diplomat that opposes a country's policies - that country would likely see him as an enemy, whereas many others would see him as a diplomat. Besides, diplomats have been repurposed as spies for years in virtually every single country with an intelligence service, it's hard to tell from a public standpoint whether there's something more to this.

Besides, we're still hypocrites for using this as a pre-text to war. With the dozens if not hundreds of times we tried to assassinate castro, the US really shouldnt be making the call for war..

"you know what I noticed? Nobody panics when things go according to plan. Even if the plan is horrifying. If tomorrow I tell the press that like a gang banger, will get shot, or a truckload of soldiers will be blown up, nobody panics, because it's all, part of the plan. But when I say that one, little old ambassador will die, well then everyone loses their minds!"

Why so serious ?

Even if the guy is a spy using diplomatic cover, that's still significantly different from a terrorist.

Nothing was more predictable than an internet wide:

"Why Iran, the most trustworthy and least involved country in islamic paramilitaries/ terrorist organizations across the world would never undertake such a deed against their regional arch enemy! Clearly this is the work of the fascists in our own gov't! Now we must turn our collective minds to coming up with a series of unfounded alter explanations which fit our narrative of the only country that does bad stuff in the world is the US! Grab your pipes, long coats, magnifying glasses, yarn, and thumb tacks, we need to get to the bottom of this!"
