TFA:

"Whether or not Totten really is the first to pass for 11 touchdowns may be in question, however. As many Prep Rally readers were quick to point out, former University of Houston quarterback David Klingler passed for 11 touchdowns against Eastern Washington University in an 84-21 victory during the 1990 season. "

"Now, (Totten) has another claim to fame: Being the first quarterback to pass for 11 touchdowns at any level, ever."

So was he, or wasn't he the first?

For schools that are literally too small to get 11 boys on the field.

Yeah I figured it was either 8 man football or the Arena Football League started a high school division.

Wikipedia says that there's also a six-man variant that's played by even smaller schools. Uses an 80-yard field with 15 yard first-downs, and everyone's an eligible receiver.

Do the defenders have to count to 3-mississisppi before crossing the line unless they use their one "blitz" for the drive?

My sophmore year, I played JV. I remember watching one of the freshman games on a Thursday ( ours were on Friday), and the Froshies managed to pull off a 56-43 win. Probably one of the ugliest wins I've ever seen, one extra-point, the freshman kicker (who was also a safety) managed to peg the center square in the ass with his kick, and on another play, the opposing center managed to toss the football about ten feet over the QBs head, who then ran back twenty yards, grabbed it, and ran it forward another thirty yards.

I always love watching those type of games. My favorite is when the quarterback has a couple of people coming at him so in an attempt to scramble away from them he turns around and ends up running 20 yards in the wrong way.

My brother was the back-up kicker for the highschool we went to. Needless to say he wasn't as good as he thought he was and when the starting kicker (who was a soccer player that also was the starting WR) got injured he got his chance to show his skills. On one punt he managed to kick the ball into the center's ass and another punt he managed to get it in the air but it actually travelled backwards.

He did manage to make 4 out of 4 PATs during a game that our school won 28-27 due to the other school missing a PAT.

I don't know about that. 8-man football might actually be interesting to watch for more than 5 minutes.

Rugby League and 8-man football are both entertaining to watch, don't get me wrong... but it takes away part of the game that is what makes the game. 8-man football takes away from the game in the trenches and rubgy league takes away the game at breakdowns.

I get what you're saying, I just can't watch league. There's very little open play creativity in league on top of taking away rucking and scrummaging. 8-man football, while taking away the running game and trenches, at least allows for creativity with the passing game. You're right that they're both lesser versions of much, much better games. I was just commenting on how badly league sucks, as I do at every opportunity.

You just unearthed some memories would've never remembered otherwise.

For some reason we always said "1-monkey, 2-monkey" up to 10. And the ol' blitz rule :)

And it was one "blitz" per set of downs, not per drive.

Came to talk about 6 man. There are alot of teams in Texas but the GIS fails on records but I'd venture to say someone had to do it at some point

I played three years in an 8-man league in high school. My senior year, we played a Catholic school that had just taken up the sport that season for our first game. We beat them 62-0. Our Halfback rushed for 562 yards. We played the same school for our last game of the season, and they had improved considerably. We only beat them 38-0.

preciousmetal: Meh, eight man football does not count. Might as well be flag football.

We used to scrimmage the local 11-man squads, and we'd run theirs asses ragged. My school had 69 students. We would scrimmage schools with 1,000 students, and fark 'em up. You still gotta hit 'em.

You're right. It's very entertaining. Five-man line, three-man backfield, and your ends are eligible. Some eight-man leagues play on an 80-yard field, but I've never seen one. Until my senior year, we never attempted a PAT, always going for two. My senior year, we had a girl place-kicker. She only missed two PATs all season, and was 9-13 on field goals.

At my last job, I worked with a corn-fed Iowa guy, who was one of the biggest men I've ever seen. 6'7", 400 pounds, fast and mean. His favorite thing to do was sneak up behind someone and lift them off the ground by the hair on the back of their neck, with one hand. He snapped me with a towel twice and drew blood. After the second time, I waited a day to cool off, then told him "You're too big to fight straight-up. But if you ever snap me with a towel again, I'll sneak up behind you and kill you with a press-bar." He played 6-man in high school. I can't imagine trying to block him, it would have been impossible.

I heard University of Kansas sent coaches to ask both teams how they keep the score so low.

Official 8-man league rules say you must sing the first line of the Banana Splits theme song aloud, (after the Tra-la-la, la-la-la-la, tra-la la, la-la-la-la's part, that is) before blitzing. Seven-yard penalty if sung off-key.

Odds are he was the running back. He would've even need a line; the rest of the team would just spread out as eligible receivers to create space. Or just stand around and watch him dredge the field.

He said that they used him as a running back, offensive lineman and defensive linebacker. He played college ball, but I don't know where. For his size, he was scary fast. And I only saw him run after he was over 45 years old. He ran the Twin Cities Marathon that year. Not in good time, but he'd never run one before. He was also the best newspaper pressman I've ever met, and very arrogant about it.

Article is factually incorrect.

Aaron Garcia threw 11 touchdown passes for the AFL's New York Dragons on 7 Jul 01 at the Nassau Coliseum. He also ran one in and the Dragons won 99-68.

If what you stated is true, it was awesome for your team! And horribly embarrassing for the opponents.
