Well, at least you don't have Alzheimer's. Yet.

Part of it, I think, is that Alzheimer's became something of a Fark meme around 2007-8 during the US presidential election. Also, the impending boomer death spiral crisis.

My mother's father had it so I'm glad my mom really likes coffee but still worried. I have to wonder though if people that are partially/completely missing their corpus callosum are more or less at risk for Alzheimer's though. My grampa (on dad's side) has Alzheimer's. It's pretty brutal. He's been in a special care facility for the last year. It used to be that he would space out or get easily confused but still have some moments of lucidity, but over the last few months even that is gone. We were talking about it the other day, half-guiltily, wishing he had cancer or a history of heart disease or something that might end him soon. Unfortunately, other than the Alzheimer's he's in perfect health. The man who was my grandfather is long gone, but his body could easily be around for another 5-10 years. It's sad.

/not looking forward to when those genes kick in, for me or my dad.

From my reading (my father died from Alzheimers), there is a chance you can get it from eating deer who are infected with the deer version of mad cow.

Medical professionals rarely give autopsies to Alzheimers patients since it is something everyone knows is coming and most enter into hospice which is one of the ways where a medical examiner is never involved, you go straight to the funeral home after death.

My paternal grandmother died of Alzheimer's. My dad was diagnosed with it 18 months ago. His older brother died from it last year.

On my Mom's side of the family, my 93 year old Grandfather is dealing with his wife of 25 years fading away from Alzheimer's. His first wife, my Grandmother, died of pneumonia

It really sucks. I feel your pain. My only hope is that I got my genes for this from my Mom's side of the family and not my Dad's.

So long as she follows sharps procedures like crazy and nobody stabs her with a needle/scalpel that's been used on a patient she should be fine. Prion's aren't airborn.
