booksmart: PMG: A trailer is used to bring the audiences to the movie itself. It does that by conveying a feel for the movie in question.

Cause, yeah, a song with the refrain "We're in this together now" has nothing to do with a crew of people used to working solo learning to be a team...

Whattya want? Them to re-use Carmina Burana for the billionth time? Or recycle the score to Stargate or ID4 a few more times? Maybe Orff's The Planets, and get confused with Williams' score for Star Wars?

It's too expensive to orchestrate, record, and produce a score for a trailer, so they use music from the radio. It's simple, cheap, and effective.

Now -1/10, and still for stupidity.

OK. I haven't read the rest of the thread, so apologies if anyone else has said this:
Carmina Burana: Carl Orff
The Planets: Gustav Holst

No idea about the others.

Incidentally Orff's Catulli Carmina might appeal to farkers, and it's fairly obscure. PSA and all that...

PMG: booksmart: PMG:
Appropriately, any trailer for a movie of this genre should communicate a sense of boldness and courage, and the best way of doing so is through the use of music. This is why so many movies and their trailers use soul-stirring orchestral themes - they get the blood thumping and get the viewer excited to see the protagonist do what they do best.

Apparently, you are unaware that the score is one of the *last* things produced for a film.

Either that, or you're trolling.

Either way, 1/10 for stupidity...

Ha!

*Pinches cheek*

Adorable!

*Sigh* Ah, but no.

If you take quick look back at my comment - indeed, even that part you yourself quoted, you will see that I was commenting on the music used in the trailer. This trailer. The Avengers trailer. The one... we all just watched? Yes? You remember that? With the music?

While it is indeed true and well known that the score for the movie is one of the last things produced for the film I suspect it's a safe bet that the score for the trailer has been produced by the time you.... hear it...

A trailer is used to bring the audiences to the movie itself. It does that by conveying a feel for the movie in question. So even though the score for the finished product may indeed still be a work in progress, the score for the trailer should give the viewer some idea of what's in store for them. Which brings me back to my previous comment re: whiny cock-rock.

But thanks for your input! Two thumbs up big guy!

The fact that you described NIN as cock-rock totally invalidates anything you say about this subject

PMG: Oh!

Hello!

Let me pull up a chair and we'll talk.

There we go.

I'd like to talk about music in films, if I may.

We've all just watched the trailer to the Avengers, a superhero movie. Now, one notable aspect of the entire superhero genre is the theme of finding the courage to stand up and fight against evil despite the usually overwhelming odds. The key word there is courage.

On the flip side, what they should stay from is whiney cock-rock that sounds like somebody crying that will sound horribly dated in a few scant months.

Thanks for your time! I'll see myself out.

You are an asshole. Preference for music not withstanding, comparing The Fragile to "cock rock" and claiming that it will be dated in "a few months" when it is already over a decade old, just shows that you're also retarded.

Not really. I did say I would rent it. Problem is I've seen enough stories about guys who put on costumes and fight other guys in costumes. This trailer didn't look like it brought anything new to the table except more guys in costumes, Also, the number two thing these movies need to be good is to have an awesome bad guy. I didn't see any glimpses of that here, but I won't pass judgement until there's another trailer.

interesting, why was thor attacking cap in that clip?

my movie prediction is that loki steals the cosmic cube, brings back the Destroyer (or even cooler Surtur) to earth, skrulls reveal themselves in a separate storyline and are backed by some assistance from a Hydra resurgence, and the cosmic cube once returned from Loki's defeat reveals that Thanos is behind all of this chaos and mayhem (to be battled in Avengers 2). as a last ditch effort, Hulk gets dropped like a NFO onto a mob of Frost Giants, Hydra, and Skrull, mopping them up and, after they are taken care of, becomes the larger more worrisome threat to contain than any of the villains. (they should totally use Hulk like this--straight out of The Ultimates.)

and Squirrel Girl makes a cameo as a reject during the gathering of the Avengers.

No Hank and no Janet, which means without wasp joss is gonna have to kill off black widow. In fact a surprising lack of whedon regulars, TONS of rumors, like the above, and nathan fillion as hank, and felicia day as agent brand, which is uber plausible since whedon created that character. But everything like that has been denied or proven false so far.

Still looks promising though.

Nah, Black Widow still has potential for her own movie if Avengers does well. Keep in mind we've got another prominent female in SHIELD for this movie:

I'm willing to bet she's the one who's going to bite it.

Some farking epic Cap issues right there. John Byrne art. Josef Rubinstein inking. The whole "Captain America For President" thing. Too bad they only stuck around for about 9 issues.

As for the trailer, the Hulk already looks better than any of the other two movies. Actually looks like Ruffalo.

[cache.gawker.com image 640x360]

They're actually letting Ruffalo play him as a motion capture, like Gollum. I saw that in IMDB trivia this afternoon. Still letting Lou Ferigno do the voice.

Iron Man
Captain America

Iron Man is basically the Batman of Marvel. If he has time to prepare, smart money's always on him. Otherwise it's Thor (Hulk eventually tires out and deHulks and Thor pounds puny Bruce into the pavement with Mjolnir).

Uh.... excuse me?

Captain America always wins.

The whole "Whedon only hire his regulars" thing is a myth. Look at Firefly, not a single regular had worked with him before, except Summer Glau who had a single walk on part with two lines in one episode of Angel. Then when he made Dollhouse again he did not hire anyone he had worked with before as a regular, though he used a few in some recurring roles.
Even Dr Horrible, which he made with his own money by calling in favors, only had two out of the four main cast people who'd worked with him before.

So why was anyone expecting The Avengers to be wall to wall Whedon regulars?

I don't care if you are trolling or not, but seriously. Shut the fark up - Firefly is NOT, NOT, NOT coming back. As a live action property, it is dead, buried and gone. The cast has moved on, Joss has moved on. It is gone and never will live again.

Pretty much this. In addition, I will say that the comics are all pretty decent and worth a read, especially The Shepherd's Tale. I love the structure of that one, and how it gives you an actual perspective on how long the War went on. Plus, the details on how Book came to be, and some details that would have been nice to explore (Won't spoil them, so you can keep an eye out for them.)...generally, just a mighty fine read.

M Bison: Alphax: Mr. Cat Poop: M Bison: Loki will have an army of aliens at his back. This will be an alien invasion movie.

Would it still technically be an alien invasion movie if it was just Loki? I mean, he's not an Earthling, but can one person be an invasion and are gods considered aliens?

Well, I guess Thor was an alien invasion movie as well, when The Destroyer showed up.

No, what I am saying is that Loki is leading an alien army. Its not just Loki that is the villain. Its either the Skrulls or the Chitauri.

Yeah, I got that. I was just waxing philosophical about how many non-Earth beings it would take to comprise an invasion. I think if it's powerful enough then it would only take one. Just nerd-talkin'.

And Nathan Fillion was on buffy before firefly, gina tores on angel i think before firefly, and adam baldwin right after, eliza dushku was a regular on 2 (3?) seasons of buffy before dollhouse... amy acker and alexis denishof were both semi-regulars on dollhouse, summer glau too at the end, and alan tudyk.

Nathan was on Buffy only after Firefly was cancelled, ditto Gina Torres and Adam Baldwin on Angel. Eliza Dushku was recurring on Buffy and Angel, but Joss didn't hire her for Dollhouse, it was her deal with Fox first, then she got Joss on board. And Glau and Denisof were both guest stars at the very end, Summer first appearing well after the show was announced cancelled.

Point was, both TV shows he created after Buffy/Angel he almost totally hired all new cast, not people he had worked with before.

Yet this myth of "He always hire the same people again and again...." still persists.

In fact Whedon does that arguably less often than many. Woody Allen hired actors again and again, ditto Tarantino. Even James Cameron. There's nothing wrong with it if they are right for the part. Yet again and again with Whedon it's said like it's a bad thing.

/And don't get me started on the "He only hires tiny waif like girls" myth. His first Willow was a very large girl, he told Jewel Staite to put on weight for Kaylee, Amber Benson and Miracle Laurie are, by Hollywood standards, large girls and Gina Torres is far from waifish.
