unicron702: Isn't Hulk considered the most powerful character in the Marvel universe short of omnipotent beings?

Yes. He's basically a "Rage Elemental." However, depending on the writer...

Snapper Carr: Various writers have buffed and debuffed him as they saw fit. There are nearly indestructible versions of the Hulk and there are versions that are slightly more powerful than the Thing.

That. My personal fave Hulk is Grey Hulk living in Las Vegas working as a bouncer named "Mr. Fix-It."

MtHammer: As per usual, Robert Downey Jr. seems likely to be the best part.

As he should. This movie doesn't get made if RDJ hadn't slam-dunked Iron Man.

So much looking forward to this coming out; my wife and I ended up getting cast as extras for the Cleveland shoot, and I ended up getting an upgrade when I asked one of the PAs if they needed any extra safeties for the stunt crew. Since I mainly work in live theatre, working on a A-class film production was a LOT of fun.

...stupid NDAs. I wanna share.

/Johanssen in the catsuit is hotter in person
//Tom Hiddleston (Loki) is a bro
///Watching Captain America while up in Cleveland, getting a phone call to report to set early while the Avengers preview at the end of the film was still ongoing, and having to explain to the other four people in the theatre why my phone had gone off (I had to report to the set of the movie they had just watched the preview for) was badass

Isn't Hulk considered the most powerful character in the Marvel universe short of omnipotent beings? I remember reading his strength and resistance to harm technically has no limits if you get him angry enough.

Like someone mentioned above, depends on the writer. He could punch Galactus in the face or crack a planet in half at his strongest. There was a series, I can't remember if it was in an Incredible Hulk or some special comic where it was said that Hulk was an Avatar. He represented Rage. Like Juggernaut is the Unstoppable Force, like Pheonix is rebirth.

Whether that's canon or not, I'm not sure. But He is one of the strongest in the MU, yeah.

I know its a few years old but probably still relevant, check out the Planet Hulk and World War Hulk story arc. He beats the shiat out of EVERYONE. Blackbolt, Iron Man, Ghost Rider, all the X-Men (at once), Sentry, the FF4, Silver Surfer, etc. He was royally pissed.

Y'know, I can accept that Bruce Banner can transorm into a 10 foot tall green monster, but I'm not so sure about him turning from a tall thing Anglo-Saxon into a stocky, hairy Italian.

Snapper Carr: I'm still saddened by the lack of Pyms.

/Natasha is the lone female in the main cast of a Whedon flick - not very good odds of survival there.

I think Pepper Potts(Gwenyth Paltrow) and Maria Hill(Cobie Smulders) will have a scene or two.

Not JUST Scarlet, but a red head version with short hair AND dramatic hair flipping (@1:24)!

/she's going to be the weak link in this movie

I don't know. I kinda thought she'd be the weak link in Iron Man 2, but I was pleasantly impressed with the character (and not just from an aesthetic viewpoint). In fact, that was one of the most unexpected things about Iron Man 2 for me. It seemed like they utilized Scarlett Johansson surprisingly well and Mickey Rourke surprisingly poorly.

/It was still kind of a meh film.

That was...actually brought up during pre-filming prep by one of the "extras wranglers", and definitely confirmed when talking to the stunt guys. Luckily, my wife was on the day shooting in the street (where you see all the cars getting blown up and the military shooting back at the start of the trailer), and I was on the night shoot in [redacted] (where you see the "Polizei" car get flipped over after Sam Jackson shoots the RPG in the trailer), I could stare with impunity.

Well...glance, and look away. Glance and look away. Those things are like the sun, you know. Stare too long, and you'll get burned.

Jokes aside, she stayed in her trailer most of the time, and I don't blame her. By the third night of shooting, having to walk the paparazzi gauntlet was getting old for us. For her? It'd be a nightmare.

Captain America was a disappointment. Half the movie was Captain being boring and not doing anything. Then there was some over the top action scenes. Then a really stupid ending. All of that would have been fine if the enemy was actually someone we cared about. Red Skull never seemed threatening and was never a foil to Captain. It seems like he was just put in and hoped everyone watching would know he was a big bad guy we should care about.

The ending would have been better if the romance between Captain and Peggy meant something. But it just felt flat and Captain not being able to return to her just didn't have the emotional weight the movie seemed to want.

Avengers looks like a fun movie though if they avoid the failings of Captain America.

*potential "Thor" spoiler*

To be vague -- curious if there will be a Portman cameo in Avengers as her story might be part of a reason why Thor would return to Earth.

Saw Thor in 3D for free, which was worth what I paid for it. It had some amusing moments, but overall was not very good.

Captain America (in 2-D) was worthwhile. Best superhero movie in a while.

I guess I like it that they didn't spell out the threat too directly yet. Loki.. and a War of the Worlds invasion? (Skrull, I guess, but that's only from what I hear on Fark)

Black Widow's short hair does make more sense for fighting.. less to grab for an enemy. And looks terrific.

They really need a Chinese character for the international market.

More likely that isn't Cap ... its a Skrull desguised as Cap.

C'mon, FARK, 99% of the internet has basically speculated for months that Loki is working with the Skrulls in this movie. All those on set shots of Cap fighting guys in mo-cap suits holding huge Jack Kirby-esque space guns were floating around the web for over a month. Quite frankly, I'd be shocked if it wasn't Skrulls.

I'm pretty sure you meant "tall thin Anglo-Saxon" . . . but yeah, this.

Bruce Banner is a twig that blows away in high winds, not the fat ass owner of Manny's Pizza Joint. Mark Ruffalo has a turkey neck.

Dude, anything is better than Catwoman, k? So Thor and Cap automatically get a pass.

Hell, most of Marvel's movies get a pass in my book, and only because they seem to make the effort for you to care about the characters.

DC? Other than Nolan's Batman, it's been epic fail after epic fail.

Ahhh you're right, I must've closed it after the Avengers insignia came up (should've figured they'd have something afterward, like every movie). That's good at least. I would've been worried if they were scared to show CG hulk, since a lot of people thought they looked cartoony in the previous movies (not me, I thought Norton's Hulk looked badass, best CG adaptation so far).

DC seems to put more care into its animated features than live action. DCAU films are usually quality and usually better than the Marvel equivalent (there are exceptions - The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes is pretty entertaining)

I live in ABQ and all of these actors were here over the summer. That includes Scarlett. They all lived in same part of town too. I could always tell where Downy was as the closer my proximity to him, the more like a complete loser I felt. The blast zone for his cool covered most of the city out into the west valley.

2011-10-11 02:05:11 PM
I haven't been following too closely with released information on this, but I'd been hoping that since the Cosmic Cube was the MacGuffin for this one that Thanos might be the archvillain for this one.

Also, imho, one of the sad parts about Captain America is that as time goes on and Cap gets reinvented, it just becomes more and more implausible to have him run into folks from his days in the war. Back in the 80's and 90's, he could run into folks that were 20-30 years old during WWII and they'd be old, but it wouldn't be too implausible for them to still be alive. Now anyone he'd run into would be in their mid-eighties or nineties assuming they were in their twenties during WWII, so he gets more and more alienated as time goes on.

Was that Loki doing the voiceover at the beginning? I couldn't really tell.

And yeah, I have a hard time seeing Loki carry an entire film. Then again, with 6 Avengers already sharing screen time, I'm not sure how you squeeze in more bad guys unless this is going to be 3+ hours.
