I wonder if it would be possible to equal the intellectual heft of this blog by randomly selecting signs from Tea Party rallies.

Ok, this blog sucks, and they're cherry picking the participants.

HOWEVER, 10 years ago, a degree in "Post-Gender Literary Criticism History" would actually have gotten you a job. That's called an English degree, and I know a lot of people who got one of them in the 90s and did quite well.

Companies used to hire people who showed critical thinking skills and eagerness to learn- which a liberal arts degree combined with good interviewing skills displays.

We NO LONGER live in a world where you can do what I did: Get a degree in "International Relations with a sub specialty in US- Soviet foreign affairs" and then get an entry level job that has nothing whatsoever to do with it, and work up to management in a few years via hard work.

There are many, many reasons for this. It is not simple and it does not fit on a bumper sticker, so most of you simply won't be able to understand.

I have to be honest and say that I have not followed this event, so I don't really know what the main push is. It seems to be framed as a unemployed uprising... but why? The unemployed (as bad as the employment situation is) are a relatively small percentage of the population. I would think it makes more sense to frame it as a uprising of employed people who are having the skin flayed from their backs by corporate america, and their wall st. overlords. Or is that just what this thing is, and I haven't gotten an accurate representation of it.

I'm a moron and got a shiatty degree that I went in debt for, and now I can't get a job. I'm going to magically get a job by protesting Wall Street, though, because things are gonna change, man. As soon as this tax situation sorted out, my major in English and minor in psychology are going to get me the $125,000 a year job I deserve. Screw those suckers who worked hard and got degrees in medicine and engineering. Why do they get all the jobs?

I think the point is we're giving these huge tax breaks to corporations because they're supposed to take that extra money and create jobs with it, but aren't. So yes, yes they do owe us jobs if they want to continue enjoying their exessive tax breaks they're getting that's supposed to be used to create jobs.

What tax rates should corporations pay? Justify them.

If you're going to say the current rates are too low you better know what would be proper.

I think the point is that the relatively favorable tax conditions for the ultra wealthy is unfair and lessening the burden on the lower income classes by shifting it up would be good for the country and the 99%. I hope it is not that corporations owe people jobs. That would be stupid.
