(Yahoo) Followup George W. Bush says the only thing he misses about his presidency is his interaction with the troops: meeting them, posing for pictures with them, sending them off to get killed in unnecessary, poorly planned, wars; stuff like that   (news.yahoo.com) divider line 291

I would like to see him and Cheney forced to wear BSDM gear and whip each other for 10 minutes for each boner their joint clusterfark of a presidency pulled. A 10 minutes per gaffe they should only be at it for 1000 hours or so...

Um... please don't slam BDSM like that. It's actually fun, for those of us who only like that sort of thing. What those two (and Rove) need is a punishment so mind-numbingly BORING that they break down crying. Blatant busywork with no benefit. Like writing "starting a war to prove to Mommy that I'm manlier than Daddy is wrong" a million times. Or turning boulders into gravel.

In a just society, Cheney would have been prosecuted by now, and Bush would possibly be held accountable as well. The fact that both received more or less heroes send-offs for some of the greatest war crimes in the past 100 years says a ton about America today.

Yeah. What I'd do to Cheney wouldn't be called BDSM. Assault? Yes. Torture? Definitely.

And, hey! Since he's got a robotic heart, we can keep that farker alive a nice long time.

"There's nothing as courageous in my judgment as someone who had a leg blown off in combat overcoming the difficulties."

You know what would have been more courageous? Standing up to the War Hawks who wanted to invade Iraq even before 9/11.

And the question for the president in terms of whether we went on to Baghdad and took additional casualties in an effort to get Saddam Hussein was, "how many additional dead Americans is Saddam worth?" And our judgment was, "not very many", and I agree. (new window)

That would've been courageous, but you just didn't have the balls to say no.

As someone who is studying genocide, I find it laughable that you consider those actions - as criminal and terrible as they were - anywhere near the list of "greatest war crimes" in the past 100 years. Not even the same ball-park, hell, it's not even the same sport.

Yeah, you know, how we helped the Libyans topple a terrorism-supporting dictator, prevented mass killings of the Libyan people, then let the new coalition government manage things on its own, democratically.

That's what Shrub did in Afghanistan and Iraq, right?

True, Libya only had a few thousand surface-to-air missiles go missing and only some of the rebels are members of Al Qaeda. Too bad Colonel Gaddafi isn't an American citizen, we would have killed him already with a drone strike.

I'm no Bush fan by any means BUT I do genuinely believe that based on the information that was given to him (concocted or otherwise) he truly believe that Saddam had WMDs.

What I do fault him on though is after it has been proven false, he should've gone back and at least persecuted those guys IF indeed they manufactured the data or made up or exaggerated some information to support their claims but that would've opened up a GIANT can of worms .

Drummer: I think what Bush doesn't realize is: (1) they don't respect him; (2) and, no one cares what he "misses".

Say what you will about his policy and so on, every Soldier I spoke to while I was in that interacted with him (which is a reasonably long list in the area of communications I worked in) said he was a great person to sit down and have a conversation with. Not many people agreed with his actions as a Politician, but as a person Soldiers said he was good to talk to.

So much Bush hate, and yet he somehow got elected twice.

Point is, I'm not saying Bush was the greatest president ever, or that I agreed with everything he did, but the fact that people are still angry just goes to show that they can't let go of past events (even if the past is affecting the present.)

Just let it go, Bush's time is over, you won't see any of his people tried for human rights violations or destroying the economy.

Let it go.
Let it go...

These are the same idiots who complain about the war costing $1.2 trillion, when the fact is that trillion spread out over what is almost a decade and doesn't even come close to our yearly GDP.

I'm not defending them, but they were nowhere near the greatest war crimes of the last century. The 20th century was a real motherfarker, you know. Also, Kissinger, Nixon, Cambodia, etc.

From wiki:
The last U.S. combat brigades departed Iraq in the early morning of August 19, 2010. Convoys of U.S. troops had been moving out of Iraq to Kuwait for several days, and NBC News broadcast live from Iraq as the last convoy crossed the border. While all combat brigades left the country, an additional 50,000 personnel remained in the country to provide support for the Iraqi military.[286][287]

You know, if any one of us made a poor decision that got even one person killed, we would be 1) in jail and/or 2) bankrupted after civil litigation by the survivors.

These are not our leaders. They are our employees. Time to start treating them as such.

Something tells me all that time spent finding pictures to post pointlessly in threads has severely hindered your ability to keep up with what exactly is going on in Libya.

I do wonder if you've had the opportunity to complain that Obama was dithering or giving NATO too much power, though...

Let's see.

Stopped multiple 15 month combat tours with little or no down time in-between

Ended DADT.

Did what he said he would do and withdrew troops from Iraq.

Did what he said he would do and surged troops in Afghanistan.

Yep, just like Bush/Cheney. Oh, without the Rumsfeld.
