FTA: McConnell did concede, however, that Obama "inherited a tough situation." But he said the president "has made it worse" by not working more closely with Republicans. Describing Obama, "as a very, very liberal guy," McConnell said the president, should follow Clinton's example and move to the center "to make progress on a bipartisan basis."

"Sure, we broke it, and sure, we've made every possible effort we could to prevent a Democrat from fixing it, but really, it's his fault for not kissing our asses hard enough or fervently enough. We'll just have to let you assholes starve & riot, because Obama won't let us exploit him for our political gain."

Fark you, Mitch. Fark you.

"...and then we impeached that guy."

Bill Clinton was also a nice white man with a normal sounding name from Arkansas, and he most likely never put spicy brown mustard on his burger.

2011-10-07 08:45:24 AM
Funny, I don't recall Clinton giving the Republicans more than 98% of what they wanted....

2011-10-07 08:51:47 AM
Rush Limbaugh was all gloom and doom about Clintonomics and how it would destroy the country, instead it produced the biggest boom since post WW2.

It was also funny that most of the guys who were wailing about Clinton's immorality were cheating on their wives and siring bastards.

2011-10-07 09:14:47 AM
Yeah, because Obama hasn't ever tried to govern from the center at all....

*rolls eyes*

Wait, what was your #1 priority, Mitch? That's what I thought, you lying sack of turtle.

But he said the president "has made it worse" by not working more closely with Republicans.

Like giving up a third of his stimulus package to tax cuts. Like letting HCR be made entirely by a bipartisan committee with no WH influence. Like giving in completely on the debt ceiling to Republican demands and getting nothing in return.

That kind of not working closely.

Republicans were unmitigated asshats in the 1990s. Clinton just knew how to beat them better at their own game. Hint: Don't cave in to negotiations and give away everything you say you stand for. Clinton also relished a good old fashioned political bar brawl, and would get up there and call Republican punks out by name.

Every attack dog the Republicans had back then is still around today, still attacking. Clinton just stood up to them. Obama... I dont know what his problem is, but he should have gone bibilical Samuel L Jackson on some of these punks.

On his own positions. He tells you exactly what he intends to do, why he's doing it and then he does it.

This is not true. Clinton DID give everything away. His signature pieces of legislation were really conservative.

I think McConnell grew up in a house where the floor was tilted to the right. His balance is horribly off.

And lifted financial regulations that ultimately contributed to the mess we're in now.

He only talks like that because it is the distant past and everyone forgot the bad blood that existed at the time, much like the bad blood that exists now.

Yep, I think Obama lost any hope of compromising with the Republicans after pushing through the health care reform bill. Now we have a polarized political situation, ohh well, nothing will get done for a few years.

Um, wasn't the entire reason why the Republicans won control of both houses in 1994 because the Democratic leadership in Congress basically collapsed and refused to work with Clinton, causing a bunch of intra-party conflict and failure?

You mean the jobs gained under Obama is worse than the 700K per month lost we saw under Bush's last few months?

The US stock markets great gains since 2009 are worse than what they were under Bush's last year?

The GDP being in positive territory for the last 8 quarters or so is worse than the last two GDP quarters under Bush?

While Obama instead insists on staying firmly planted on the right? Capitulating constantly to 98% of their demands?

When was the last time Mitch and any other Republican were interested in 'moving to the center'?

The "center" has moved so far right that Reagan would be considered a liberal today.

I can believe this. Clinton tried to make deals! Of course if he really wanted something he would shut down everything until he got it.

If you just ignored that whole sell everything to China like it was a fire sale thing then Bill really did a good job.

In the late 90s we had full employment, what Republicans called a "labor shortage".

We also had the budget on track for a surplus, what FOX News Channel refers to as a "deficit on the plus side".

I vote that we never put someone who uses the word 'incentivize' unironically into public office again.

Farking McConnell belongs as night manager at the Harris Teeter, not in government.

Clinton didn't have to deal with Senate Republicans who filibustered every other thing that came up for a vote either out of spite or simply because they could.

Reid and Obama aren't making concessions to the GOP because they wants GOP votes, they're making concessions so that the bills can be voted on in the first place. And since the GOP has a cloture-proof "majority" in the Senate, the Democrats cannot not capitulate.

And before anyone comes in with the "Teh Democrat Party had a majerty in the seante since 0bama came into office!!!1!" talking point, I'd like to remind everyone that they only had 60 votes in the Senate for about a month and a half - from when Al Franken was finally allowed to take his seat to when Ted Kennedy bought the farm - since January 2009. The Republicans have not had less than 40 Senators in this same timeframe.

He told Republicans to go Fark themselves his first two years in office. I mean his famous quote to Republicans looking for compromise on the stimulus bill was I Won, and then he is shocked, shocked, when the GOP took the house that they stuck it to him.
