I keep trying to tell people this, but they need the narrative to be this is a big Obama booster rally.

This is why these people are superior to teabaggers. They aren't just re-branded Democrats.

Wall Street protestors are right. As usual.

This is true. It was essentially an economic protest before it was infiltrated and turned into a values protest... ie with Glenn Beck holding religious sermons etc.

Yeah, everyone says that. But these are people who will vote Democrat, Green, or not at all. They may not be in favor of the "liberal" party, but they are liberals.

There are only two viable political parties in a country of over 300 million people. One could argue that the US is effectively a plutocracy masquerading as a democracy. In a time of wealth redistributing from the poor to the rich in times of economic downturn, it is not surprising that people have a problem with both political parties.

Oh, it is one of these intelligent posters. I'm not sure if there is enough sand to bury all your heads in.

Yup. I'm a Republican (for the time being) and I'm going to the DC one this week, just as soon as I find the right day.

As far as I'm concerned we need to vote out everyone. And at this point I'm not really sure we can solve things with our current political parties. I think it might be time for some more competition in congress.

EWreckedSean: Yeah, the Tea Party started that way too. It won't last.

What happened to the Tea Party was a shame. That it took people so long to REALIZE what was happening to their movement is a BIGGER shame.

What isn't happening to this thing is the media hype. They are beaten by police, maced, corralled, harrassed, belittled in the press, treated like a joke. This is in stark contrast to the press and corporate sponsorship and police bribery that was used to bolster the appearance of legitimacy in the TP movement in spite of the progressive hijacking thereof.

The climate's not right for the same things to happen to OWS. Not to say it won't change, but also, hopefully, the people who are for real with it are able to see that sort of creeping change and possibly get out in front of it.

Your concern is duly noted.

It's awesome. What's more awesome is that people are actually seeing through it for once. The press actually seems to believe that they can get away with this complete shift in rhetoric just because it's not republicans. Go ahead. Attack the people for being like... dumb... and stuff. See how that goes. Every time I pop my head onto the internet, OWS got bigger, and haters got madder.

I am part Occupy Salt Lake. I don't feel like this is "Democrat" movement by any means. It's really not a "both sides are bad so vote Democrat" unlike that other "grass movement" with all the corporate sponsorship money and party members with (R')s next to their names.
But with that said... I bet the Democrats get a lot more votes than the Republicans out of this group. If for no other reason than the gay marriage thing, women's health care rights, religious overtones, or just the overall class warfare that THEY have stepped up into a full blown bloody battle. But other than that, I guess they could get some votes out of this crowd.

/both parties do love that corporate cock though don't they?

Seriously though, you're right. It's not healthy to reduce political discourse down to 2 teams. And the worst part is that the people that support one of those teams belittle anyone that doesn't want to take part in the game.

Or worse, belittle one even more if they think about supporting a party outside of the red or blue framework.

I live in Berlin - the Pirate party just gained 15 seats in the city Parliament.

Of course, Germany has proportional representation, which makes voting for whoever the hell you want more than just a symbolic act.

I agree -- but, sadly, it's likely that these protestors would rather see the government just take over Wall Street and pretty much nationalize everything, rather than admit that all this mess is the government's fault, the result of decades of bound-to-fail policies, and call for what is really needed, a separation of government and industry -- in the same spirit and for the same reason as we have separation of church and state.

A government in control of industry is no better than industry in control of government -- neither socialism nor fascism are good things in the long run.

Are you telling me that a dual party political system isn't enough to satisfy the needs of the people and that they would never collude or come to an agreement because we all know that a dictatorship is having only one party, but we live in a democracy with TWO, count 'em, TWO parties and we all be free and shiat now.

It continues to amaze me that people don't understand that asking government to control business is just asking the fox to guard the hen house. I mean really, who do they think government works for. I mean geez, look at Obamacare. The thing in the end was largely just a massive boon for the insurance industry.

Yreds, let's separate Government and industry. Brilliant.

No police or legal protections for businesses.

No government utilities supplied to businesses.

No use of government built infrastructure by businesses.

No military protection for business operations.

No support by businesses for political candidates allowed.
