cretinbob - wait till you see what she looks like in the morning

Best show I've seen in this vein since American Gothic. Someone's at the door someone's at the door

I only saw part of it and don't know what it was about but it had some creepy imagery.

Do you just go through all the threads and try to make them all about politics?

Because that sounds like a blast.....

It's gotten mixed reviews, but my partner and I absolutely loved it. Like all Ryan Murphy shows, I'm totally prepared to love the first season and get burned out after that, but it will still be a great ride while it lasts.

Plus, there's gratuitous Dylan McDermott butt, and I'll never say no to that.

Anyone know if you can find it streaming online?

Also, this.

It's good; we'll keep watching it. Same network that did The Shield, Rescue Me and does Louie and Sons of Anarchy. And Jessica Lange. Man, she is a complete blast and still stunning. Just. Electric. I think the family chemistry needs a little time, but I'm willing to give it that.

Hey, pal, if your country is going to flood the airwaves with inane reality shows, confrontational "news" networks, and braindead politicos bullshiatting 24/7, I'm free to make as much fun of you as I want. :)

It was kind of an unending string of horror cliches but I managed to be drunk enough to enjoy it. Plus they had a much better cast and set decorations than the material probably deserved.

2011-10-06 06:53:16 PM
that shows sure loves to have it's characters say "shiat".

*Checks profile* Both these quotes explain why for the most part I stay out of political flamewars.

Apparently you don't mind trying to light the fire though, especially in a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with politics.

I'll second that you must be great to hang out with...

I flipped to it and saw a man in a full on latex suit screwing a woman. So.............yay?

I'm worried that they'll f*ck it up the same way they did with Nip/Tuck... They will spend so much of their time trying to be shocking that they will stop writing a good story.

With that handle you should have no problem finding TV shows online. Just remember to Duck the legal consequences.

I've been running out of scary stuff to watch in October, so I checked it out. Not bad so far, just setting up. The editing is kind of annoying though. It's like they expect us to be scared by skipping a couple seconds every so often.

2011-10-06 07:45:41 PM
Don't they have to start writing a good story first?

2011-10-06 07:46:35 PM
i liked it.

2011-10-06 08:05:07 PM
I dug it a heck of a lot. As stated above - it's the best show in that vein since American Gothic, and that is a damn good thing.

2011-10-06 08:11:13 PM
I liked it too. The pacing was a bit frenetic for an hour of TV but that was not necessarily a bad thing in this case.

They seemed to be putting all the pieces on the board for some good story telling as the season progresses.

They haven't started writing a good story...

I was really disappointed in the premiere. I've been looking forward to this show for months, but outside of some good acting and some creepy (albeit incredibly cliched) imagery, this show doesn't have much going for it IMO. And what's with all the quick cuts? Good horror needs to buildup a sense of dread. And that's not possible with all the jumping around.

I can kind of understand why people liked it. Every other new show this fall was ridiculously generic, so it's different enough to warrant interest. But once the novelty wears off I think people are going to start tuning out.

2011-10-06 08:30:02 PM
It has a very shiningesque feel to it and it's got some disturbing ideas behind it hopefully Murphy realized that he needs to keep the audience entertained and not flake out and bring us midget nanny and lobster baby

2011-10-06 08:44:04 PM
I started watching it. When the school smoking scene deteriorated into screaming in 30 seconds and the creepy neighbor lady came over to collect her daughter, I decided that was enough.
/more free time for me.

You should check out The Fades on BBC - Pilot made me interested, the second episode made me realize it was quality TV and by the end of this last episode I was hooked. Gonna check this show out next.

To do something useful like post on FARK.

It would seem the only way this show works for longer than one season is the cast rotates, and the house -- which is implied to have killed everybody that's lived in it so far -- is the central "character," right? The family gets killed off one by one, and of course nobody moves out after the first death, and the first season ends with the last person getting killed off, and the new family moves in. You even have the Connie Bretton cameo somewhere in the middle of season two.

In a schedule filled with yet more doctor/lawyer/cop shows, a little weird is good.

So, who'd she bone anyway? She totally knew it when he came to bed.

I didn't find it terribly coherent. Maybe the next episode will be better with a real hourlong plot, rather than just the introductory stuff.

You'll have to keep checking FX's web site. They eventually put all the episodes up, but usually only three at a time. The main show page is here:

http://vod.fxnetworks.com/watch/ahs (new window)

I liked it, even though there wasn't much story in the first episode. What I did appreciate is that despite the horror cliches, the family members legitimately can't stand one another, so there probably isn't going to be a happy ending for anyone. At the very least it is less cliched than Terra Nova, which is possibly the worst new show of the season.

Also liked: "Don't make me kill you again"

And I loves me some Jessica Lange, and she's doing a great job on this show.

NEGATIVE: Seeing Dylan McDermott masturbate and then cry in front of an open window. Also negative: only nudity in the premiere was McDermott's ass, which showed up at least twice. They had a hot chick in a French Maid outfit and no nudity for her, but they had an ass shot of a McDermott while he yanks his seed onto a desk, then bursts into tears. A definite WTF? moment.

2011-10-06 09:52:57 PM
I think they out-two-faced The Dark Knight's Two-Face. The make up was creepier and less cartooinish.

2011-10-06 10:11:19 PM
I like it better the first time I saw it, when it was called The Shining.

This. First, he's storming out of a shower, then he's masturbating. It could very well be the greatest show ever made.

Didn't watch it waiting for Walking Dead to come back and with new South Park, Tosh.0, Always Sunny, Tell a Lie, and Mythbusters my DVR is getting a workout. I am no slave to TV programming schedules.

2011-10-07 12:26:42 AM
I dvr'd it and watched it tonight. It's a big WTF happened?

I came for the Jessica Lange, and returning next week to see her again. She's channeling some sort of Southern / Tennessee Williams / gothic creepshow. I'm hoping it will improve.

csb:
My mom watched it, too, but she was totally shocked by the violence and nudity, not being familiar with an F/X show. She may or may not continue watching.

Missed the premiere entirely. So, what was the deal with the guy in latex sliding out of the ceiling that I saw in the ads - and did that actually happen in the show?

Not exactly, but he did get it on with Vivien.
