9/10. I took off one point because you didn't include the word "breeder" in your insult.

Nope, I don't have kids myself. I'm just a little tired of the "pets before people" catlady brigade and their constant delusion that they form a mainstream opinion of society because they're extremely vocal (read: annoying) on the internet. A guy decided to donate an aging incontinent cat to a new owner because his wife is expecting. He didn't abuse it, didn't kill it, he just gave it away. And yet reading some of the overreactive responses, you would think that he's Michael Vick or something.

Also you may want to do a little basic research before you say something stupid. Cats constantly defecating are a pretty well-known risk for pregnant women. Link (new window)

You, sir, are my new hero.

It's amazing how sensitive pet people (more precisely, cat people) are about these animals. I understand getting outraged if someone is kicking their dog or whatever. But apparently giving your cat away on twitter is akin to grabbing its tail and throwing it against a brick wall.

Outdoor cats get toxoplasmosis, not indoor ones like Mr. shiats-on-the-floor. Also, pregnant women usually get it from raw meat (no problem if you're a vegetarian cannibal I suppose) and gardening (vegetarians don't garden right? ...Right?) not cat shiat. Even so, it's a matter of taking precautions (you know, like gloves). If you're pregnant you'd probably get some kind of disease that would affect your unborn baby if you played around in any animal's shiat without taking precautions anyways.

Aiyyo, I heard you like making stupid blanket statements so I threw some links at your links so you can link while you link (new window)

Only if the cat is infected AND if said pregnant lady cleans it up.
I have 5 kids and I've had cats throughout and cleaned plenty a cat mess in the process. No harm, no foul.

My main problem here, is that he's grasping at straws for an excuse. Why not just say "I was sick and tired of cat shiat everywhere."

2011-10-06 12:18:00 PM
As a borderline crazy cat person, I can agree that the cat needs to be out of the house given its defecating problems. As much as I love our cats, if we had a kid and the cat (or, hell, the kid) had litterbox problems, they'd be out the door. I'd find a good home for them, but ultimately they would have to go. Not a big fan of poop showing up in places not authorized for poop.

That said, this guy comes across as a douche. I just can't place my finger on why. Oh, wait, I know. He's on Twitter and he's blogging about this whole stupid mess. Just ignore the crazy cat people, or don't and instead make a huge bit of drama of the mundane. He's getting attention out of all this, and that definitely appears to be his main goal in life anyway, so mission accomplished. What the hell does some no-name actor have to blog about anyway (other than diarrhea-prone felines).

Cats are very dangerous to have around pregnant women, or more specifically, litter boxes are.

Toxoplasmosis is not a good thing.

Add the fact that it is an incontinent cat that they have been dealing with for several years and only know decided to give away (instead of having it euthanized,) and it is clear that PRatt and Faris did the right thing.

2011-10-06 01:00:38 PM
What an asshole.

The cat's old and frail. Rather than man up and go stay with it at the vet's office while it's euthanized, like a grown up with compassion would do, he foists the problem onto someone else. People do this shiat all the time. They call our humane society and berate us that we HAVE TO take their problem animal or they'll hate us forever or something. Like this asshole, they think that animal lovers should be delighted to take on an animal with elimination issues who's about to die anyway, to save them the inconvenience of being sad or feeling guilty.

Nope. Not even close.

Rather than making sensitive people feel they must rescue this animal, this asshole and his asshole wife should have both gone to the vet and had the cat euthanized while they petted it and it died peacefully instead of uprooting from its home to go to live with strangers.

We just had to put our cat down after 11 years because of stomach/intestinal cancer. In the months before our decision, the cat would randomly shiat all over the place. We have a two year old, and it freaked us out that our daughter would come in contact with said shiat.

I've had two cats for about 12 years. The wife and I now have two children, ages 2 and 8 months. Everyone was getting along fine until both of the cats decided to start crapping and pissing in random places around the house. Favorite spots included the kitchen (which at least was easy to clean up), on the carpet in corners, and underneath the cribs in the kids' room. This was a daily problem that I put up with for a good six months before I reached my breaking point and kicked them out: I turned around to see my son with a handful of fresh poo.

Now, they live on the porch. They're fed twice daily and they have shelter from the elements. They're free to roam around and explore the outside, which is what they've both been screaming to do since I got them.

While I think he could have found a better way to deal with it, this guy is right. I can't have an animal in the house that's going to piss and crap where my children are crawling around.

It's not like they dumped their old cat off at the pound to be put down because the cat was no longer convenient. They tried to find a loving home for the cat. I don't think this is horrible at all, and I am a person who did at-home kidney treatments for a 17-year-old cat.

Cat shiat is a major problem for pregnant women and small children. Toxoplasmosis can cause the fetus to be malformed and cause miscarriage. In small children it can cause them to become extremely ill. If the cat were sticking to the littler box, they could just have someone else clean it daily. The fact that the feces could be anywhere is an issue.

It's my understanding that if you've been cleaning the same cat's litter box for 15 years, there's not an elevated risk of issues if you keep cleaning the same cat's litter box while pregnant. It's not as though you'll be exposed to anything new.

Ok, here's my POV. It's not the fact that they found another home, or the medium through which they found it. It's the way he said it. The phrase "If you are a parent you will understand" is what's setting me off. That phrase (or the similar "you don't have kids so you couldn't understand) is so often used to dismiss people who don't have kids, and is quite frequently (in my experience) attached to the type of parent who, consciously or unconsciously, thinks that having a kid grants them some kind of mystical Wisdom of the Ancients.

I am perfectly aware that perspective changes when you have a kid. But maybe you could just try explaining it instead of dismissing me with "oh you're not a parent...".

And, with this case, the fact that the feces is not confined to a litter box is an issue. Faris is 35, so she is already an at risk mom. I can see why they would not like to take the risk. As I said earlier, I give them props for not just deciding to to put the cat down for being an inconvenience. They found it a loving home.

/not YOU you, the generic 'you'

Sure, he handled the insults to himself and his wife like a dick. It's usually not a good idea to meet dickishness with dickishness. But he's not wrong, just a bit of a prick when attacked. The whole parent thing is silly, but it is true that most most people don't think about Toxoplasmosis until they think about becoming a parent. You're right, a lot of the time, that excuse is just used to justify something stupid (like outlawing peanuts in public schools). But in this case, it is correctly used to justify this couple's need to find another home for their cat.

This.

She was so cute before.

I have to go the other way on this one. I think her work was an improvement without radically changing her appearance.

Farking THIS. The smug of new (or prospective) parents never fails to astound me.

That comment was based on the ads for her new movie, where she suddenly seems to be sporting the Madonna pillow face. I hope I'm wrong.

FTFA: Bottom line, and not that this is any of your farking business weirdos, but my wife and I want to start a family and we ABSOLUTELY CANNOT have an animal that shiats all over the house. Sorry. If you are a parent you will understand. And if not, that probably explains why you have such a hard on for cats. Just sayin'.

If you ABSOLUTELY CANNOT have something shiatting all over your house, don't start a family. Just sayin'.

This statement seriously encompasses every meme about jerkwad animal owners there is. If someone is this willing to give up an animal that they've pledged to care, just imagine how they'd treat kids. Or their significant other. If she knows what's good for her, Anna Faris would run for the hills.

Incontinent cats can cause sickness in children. Concerned celebrities care. Cat crazies cannot cope causing a cacophony of crying and complaining.

Pregnant women poop isn't poisonous to cats, unlike the other way around. Just sayin'.

I RTFA and I have always thought Anna Faris was attractive but in a kind of young girl way. I had just assumed from the films I had seen her in she was some early to mid 20's aspiring actress who got a decent break. BUT THEN I looked her up on Wikipedia and found out she is only 2 years younger than me and she comes from a very well educated family and my dick went full hard! WOW I now think I will have to start stalking her...

Baby poop does not cause toxoplasmosis. Cat poop can. Cat poop that is not contained can be an even harder issue. They are caring for their cat. They found a good home for it. They didn't dump it off to be euthanized. They did not drop it off by the side of the road in the country. This is a cat that has appeared in movies, so it is not going to be traumatized by the presence of other humans as some cats would.

Anna Faris is 35. They probably cannot wait to put off trying to have children until the cat dies a natural death. And I am not certain why your fake concern for animals (since there is no abuse here) gives you any right to comment on what happens in her uterus. Yes, Pratt did not respond to the attacks on his family with any kind of grace. He certainly comes off as a dick. But, congratulations, you have managed to come off as the bigger dick - and one with a burning sensation when it pees. Just sayin'.

WTF? Am I the only person who has somehow managed to maintain a household with both a kid and cats? Yeah, I knew about toxoplasmosis- the solution was that my husband cleaned the litter box. Pretty sweet deal, IMO.

Kid's grown up knowing how to deal with animals, and with empathy. I'm thinking theirs is going to have some issues with that.

MightyPez: It's amazing how sensitive pet people (more precisely, cat people) are about these animals. I understand getting outraged if someone is kicking their dog or whatever. But apparently giving your cat away on twitter is akin to grabbing its tail and throwing it against a brick wall.

It's mostly an American phenomenon. Let's hope these people stick to their bourgeoius American suburb lives and never see how the third world treats animals, their heads will likely explode.

I'm assuming you didn't have a cat with incontinence who had no control over where they shiat, like in this case? .

Hmm.... since we're all allowed to read between the lines to decipher what kind of parent people are, what should I read into any child raised by celebrity obsessed, overly judgemental farks, obsessed with with the well being of cats over human beings and their likelihood of impending issues?

I believe my complaint is more legitimate so shut your whore mouth and get with the pics or get lost.

Were your cats not using the litter box? I think that's what the issue is here. I do think it's important for kids to grow up with pets, and, yes, if the cat goes just in its litter box, you can just have someone else clean it. But this is an elderly cat who cannot control its bowels (according to the article). That makes it harder to control the danger.

Sabyen91: If he isn't a cat person why does he have a cat?

Where does it say he's not a cat person? Dude, toxoplasmosis is a real thing. This cat has trouble controlling its bowels, so the danger is not contained to one area (the litter box). Faris is 35. That's already in the high risk range for getting pregnant the first time. Why would you assume they are not cat people just because they want to control the risks to a fetus? They certainly did make an effort to find the cat a good home - and it looks like they succeeded.

Yes. He made fun of cat people on twitter because they were sticking their noses into his business. That does not mean that he doesn't like cats.

I was sure that with my lifelong cat ownership (of tough street and barn cats who were barely a step above feral) and many years as a shiat scraping "kennel assistant" plus working in crummy petstores, handling feeder animals combined with a disgusting fingernail chewing habit would give me toxomplasis. When I got pregnant I got tested for it and if I don't have it, it's either extremely rare, hard to get or I'm some sort of god whose only super power is being immune to it.

After a traumatic incident, one of my dogs is now scared to go outside let alone shiat there. We keep it confined (the shiatting, not the dog) to the laundry room and I would never give her away. Yes, the pets dropped down a peg or two on the pecking order when our son was born but those pets are a lifetime commitment.

/also, who adopts an incontinent pet on its last legs? It's probably boa constrictor food.

No matter how cute she is, somebody somewhere is tired of her pussy.

When my tot started walking, the very first time he got out my sight, he came back into the living room with a shiat-eating grin and a stick of poop from the litter box in his fist. So I can side with this guy.

My husband and I are cat owners who intend to start a family in the next few years.

Our pre-emptive solution to this problem, since our oldest cat is 10 and we expect to have kids along about his early teens, was to buy a decent-sized house and decorate a room for the cats. It's tiled, has magnificent climbing trees, automatic litter boxes, the works; even a comfy, fur-proof chair for when one of us feels like spending time with just the fuzzy ones. Seriously, when I have fellow shelter volunteers over, they're amazed at how much work we put into the Cat Room -and it didn't cost more than $200, given that we built the trees ourselves, received the auto-boxes as gifts and chose an already-tiled room.

It lets us isolate or semi-isolate foster kittens or puppies that are big enough to be off the bottle, but too small to socialize with the 'big' cats yet, separate cats who are arguing too loudly and, best of all, provide the cats with climbing, scratching and all sorts of play -without the whole house advertising just what crazy animal lovers we are. It just seemed the fairest thing, given that while the cats normally have the run of the house, we do sometimes have allergic relatives visiting, and it's easy enough just to open a can of Friskies in 'their' room and close the door (we equipped it with both a regular and a storm-style door they can look out of,) while the maid service de-cat-hairs the place for guests.

Should one of our cats age to the point where they have continence issues but are still pain-free and enjoying life, it will be a simple matter to restrict that cat to 'his' room and use the kids' naptime for one-on-one time with our furry friend.

And should our kid reach an age where anything goes in her mouth, I'm not above putting a storm door on her bedroom either. Keeping her from cat doings and the cats from a tail-biting rugrat is not that hard, and considering we live in a college town, I don't see the resale value being harmed at all by a few spare doors. Hell, if we rent it to roommates, they're a selling point.

Anna Faris and I should be married. Because I have the same last name. Different spelling, but the same. It's the only way to save her from such an asshole.

But but but toxoplasmosis is toxic to pregnant women!!!1111

That's great. So if you plan on having children and worry about toxo, don't adopt a cat before you start your precious family. That's how you can avoid coming off as the bigger dick in this type of situation. You want to put your baby first? Fine. Just cut out the middle man and don't treat another living creature like a sack of potatoes just because you decided NOW is the time for you to start that precious farking family.

Weirdos.
