(Some Guy)   CNN's Rowland Martin:"if you threaten my family [and] one of our lives is in danger, I'm doing all I can to kill you. No apologies.". Wow, he's really gotten cranky since Laugh-in was cancelled   (article.wn.com) divider line 57

Mal: What? What kind of crappy planet is that? Kill you.
Saffron: In the maiden's home, I heard talk of men who weren't pleased with their brides...
Mal: Well, I ain't them. And don't you ever stand for that sort of thing. Someone ever tries to kill you, you try to kill 'em right back.

I really don't know where Rowland normally stands, but I just I love how conservatives are suddenly all : "OMG, what about due process?" and libs are all: "kill 'em all and let God sort it out!"

Hypocrites, every last one of them.

big pig peaches: and libs are all: "kill 'em all and let God sort it out!"

We are? I literally have not seen any "libs" express this sentiment. At least none who will put their name on that opinion.

"if you threaten my family [and] one of our lives is in danger, I'm doing all I can to kill you. No apologies."

That's a perfectly rational sentiment.

Not sure whats more scary, that an American citizen was killed by the US government without any trial or due proccess or the amount of US citizens cheering it.

We are truly through the looking glass.

I only hear a little of that, from the usual suspects (Ron Paul, etc.). Mostly, there's agreement that making war on the country is a sufficient reason to be a target.

It was Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. I'm old enough to remember watching it... & your headline sucks.

"Look, I don't want to kill someone. But if someone I have no reason to believe tells me you've threatened my family and because you are on the other side of the world none of our lives is really in danger, I'm doing all I can to kill you. No apologies."

Fixed it for him.

I hear that from libertarians, not liberals. I'm appalled that we felt it was acceptable to murder a U.S. citizen without due process, a trial, or even any available evidence. We've lost so much over the last decade, and this is just another "right" we can toss on the pile of things we're gleefully sacrificing for the illusion of security.

"Yeah, we're gonna kill this guy. The reason why is top secret, the justification for it is top secret, and although we know he has Constitutional protections, we're just going to ignore him and blow his ass up."

The whole thing is evil. I'm horrified at the fact that, although Bush started this whole mess with the illegal imprisonment and torture of U.S. citizens without due process, Obama has not only continued the practice, but escalated it to "fark it, let's just kill them."

What happens when the Obama administration, or the next President for that matter, decides that a U.S. citizen has to be killed, but he's made the mistake of being on U.S. soil?

The problem is avoiding the need to prove he was a threat. The media and the administration saying he was a threat is all the proof we need now.

can't imagine another time in history that the killing of al-awlaki would even be questioned by americans. so if through the looking glass means "we have become extremely introspective and cautious", then yes.

Shhh! He's trying to spin the issue to make it look like Republicans have the high moral ground and distract you from "rendition", Gitmo, grinning soldiers pointing at naked prisoners, waterboarding, Jose Padilla, the USA PATRIOT Act, and so on.

What Obama did here was reprehensible, but given the environment of the last decade, it's as much our fault as anybody's - we allowed this to happen. We shrugged when John Walker Lindh was tortured. We were apathetic about Jose Padilla's torture and imprisonment. We were quite happy to allow Congress to pass a bill in 2006 to let U.S. citizens become "enemy combatants" if they gave "material support" to someone we didn't like, stripping most of their rights as U.S. citizens. We helped continue much of the USA PATRIOT Act long after its "sunset."

We're not yet sure if Obama ordering a U.S. citizen to be murdered by a friggin' military drone is even legal. We paved the way for that order to be performed, though. We've allowed fear to rip away the veneer of ethical behavior that used to define one of the more noble characteristics of America, and some of us are actually cheering its demise.
