Soccer
Tennis
Running

Competition:
Cheerleading
Marching band
Shotput, javelin throw, etc
Surfing

There is a difference between a club team at a high school (which is what you most likely had) and a sanctioned inter-school competition (which is what HI will now have).

Illinois has bass fishing as a sanctioned sport.

Surfing is a hell of a workout, promotes physical fitness, love for nature and the ocean. Hawaii is the PERFECT place for this, and I cannot think of a reasonable reason why it can't be a HS sport. Plus, hot chicks in bikinis.

I'll give you that, only cavaet Shotput, javelin should be with Running as part of the whole Track and Field Sports. Sports have definable goals and measurements, when things start getting judged on style, that's when it becomes a "competition"

I knew that some colleges had bass fishing teams. I didn't realize that the IHSA had bass fishing. I feel kind of let down now. I could've added another letter to my letter jacket.

Wonder if subbie knows the origin of Cowabunga?

Since it appears CA already did this, makes even more sense for HI. Bet OR & WA do too, or should if they don't.

As somebody who went to highschool in HI, I'm getting a kick...

/Varsity kayaking in the fall, varsity outrigger canoe paddling in the winter.
//The football coaches couldn't understand why the large haoles seemed to prefer ocean sports to football...

Surfing, along with snorkelling, sailing, swimming, and kayaking, was a school sport where I grew up in Australia
