FreakinB: Gaslight Anthem would be good too, but not enough people know who the fark they are.

Yea, um... that included me. I'm listening to some of their stuff now. http://www.myspace.com/thegaslightanthem/music (new window)

Not bad. Not bad at all. Good traveling music, and I travel.

einsteinsbabysister: Good Superbowl Bands/Artists:

Band of Horses

P.S. its OPPOSITE DAY!

/although I would love to hear all of them live

Are you saying Band of Horses sucks? Or just that they wouldn't make a good Super Bowl halftime act? The opposite day comment confused me.

I at least agree with the second half of that statement.

Superbowl?
the fark's that?
bunch of thinly desguized homoerotic fan boyz jerkin off to a bunch of over grown bears in tights.
I've seen more honest fandom at a ren faire.
And the drinks were stiffer, too.
Jesus, guys, just come out of teh closet already.

A_Listless_Wanderer: just passing through: Does anyone even watch the halftime show? Isn't that the part where you go use the restroom and grab another drink?

Why do you keep your drinks in the restroom?

Wait, where do you keep yours?

Balchinian: Well I think it is the perfect choice. A dried up old has-been performer that nobody really gives a crap about singing at a dried up old has-been event that nobody really gives a crap about in a dried up old has-been league that nobody really gives a crap about. The fact that she is undoubtedly charging the "cash-strapped" NFL a ridiculously huge amount of money is even more apropos. I think it is absolutely a match made in heaven, and I can't wait to not watch it.

Good Lord, what planet are you from?

iollow: Why do they insist on a musical number? They're all bad. Get a circus in there, or like 1,000 t-shirt cannons, or maybe gladiators (yeah, like in ancient times).

exactly!
or:
demolition derby
motorcycle jumps
robot battles
whirling dervish
mongolian cluster f*ck
giant pillow fight
giant water balloon fight
giant fist-fight!

keylock71: This is what happens when you have to appeal to the lowest common denominator... Lots of bland, middle of the road pop.

Couldn't agree more. Note that the same thing happens in many sectors of the economy and government -- when you appeal to the middle, try to capture something that is inoffensive to as many people as possible, you get something that works well for nobody.

The day they get Motorhead to do the half-time show is the day I'll actually watch the SB Half-time Show.

I don't even listen to Motorhead and I want this to happen.

Isn't that what the back of the toilet is for? Throw some ice in there, a few cans of cheap beer...

Stopped reading in page 3 because I had the ultimate idea...

MOTORHEAD!!!

Madonna's a whore, isn't she a grandma or something?

If you ever come over to my house, I keep the good beer for guests in the toilet bowl... either that, or you can have Bud Light.

Pocket Ninja: You could put just about any singer in existence in place of the name "Madonna" in this headline and the thread would play out identically. I mean, what's the NFL supposed to do here? There are very few bands in the world that command universal respect, and they're very difficult to schedule. I mean, sure, they could ask someone like Kings of Leon or Cold Play, but what are the chances they're available? Green Day, is another, I suppose, but cutting-edge punk isn't really the sound you want for the Superbowl. And they've already had Aerosmith. There's just not much else left to choose from.

kindly leave, sir

interluder: what a GIS for halftime show may look like -
[1.bp.blogspot.com image 240x283]

Anything involving the Trailer Park Boys would be the greatest non-Prince halftime show ever.

Killer Cars: halftime serves first and foremost as a piss and more beer run.

Not to get all John Madden on you, but if you buy enough beer before the game, you don't need to go get beer during the game.

Defining "enough beer" is difficult, though. "Not enough beer" is an easier definition: more than I have right now.

That's not a bad album. My then-GF bought it and I have to admit eventually loving it. Later, "Music" came out. Also a good one. The rest, meh. Well, I did own Like a Virgin on cassette when I was a kid.

Hmmmm, not enough dark. I'd go with August Burns Red and Black Dahlia Murder. Nobody would understand a word of it but their faces would get peeled off like Nuskin Plenty of Shubs and Zuuls would know what it was to be roasted in the fires of the Sloar that day, I can tell you.

I saw Black Dahlia Murder a few months ago, or last year or whenever it was, in a small venue here in Honolulu. Good music, very entertaining but not "face-peeling," IMO.

Marine1: The_Sponge: Marine1: Also, she's terrible. I want AC DC or Anthrax.

Or KISS.

True. Megadeth would be a good show too. Judas Priest, Foo Fighters, and if their over-inflated sense of ego would let them, Metallica... all would be good choices.

Seriously, I want something masculine. Football is masculine. Songs by Madonna are not.

Darth Goodell's vision of the NFL game is certainly not very masculine.

Rush could play every Superbowl halftime show until they die in my opinion. Id rather them play Rush over the loudspeaker and watch midget wrestling on the field than Madonna.

The NFL doesn't need to hire someone to bring in the highly desirable 15-30 year old male viewers. They're already gonna be watching, anyway.

/Some tiny percent of them will keep us entertained in a Fark thread, too!

I would suggest a good Phish show, but most of their songs run longer than 15 minutes so I guess that won't happen any time soon.23 Minute Y.E.M. (new window)

2011-10-03 06:44:56 PM
Van Halen
Def Leppard
RHCP
Green Day
Foo Fighters

I would settle for any of those, because they are universal and would appeal to a lot of people. Though I like these bands, others that I like wouldn't fit the superbowl

Guns n Roses, original line up. Okay, I can let Steven Adler slide.
