Awesome. I propose a little one act play to show him tossing naked people tied up in manacles and duct tape onto fire ant nests without due process is wrong. I call it: Toss The Crazy Gunman Naked Onto Fire Ant Nests Until They Eat Him.

The script:
(Canadian authorities toss the crazy man onto the ant hill. Ants slowly eat him.)

Why the hell would you saw off the barrel of a rifle? A shotgun I get, but a rifle?

Plus they can be used in close quarters while keeping the high firepower. I remember reading about experiments in WWII using a sawed off version of the M1 for jungle and paratrooper use (later designated the T-26). The main problem is you get a huge muzzle blast. After the war someone bought up a bunch of parts and started manufacturing the shortened T-26 giving it the misnomer Tanker Garand.

A rifle bullet can go through lots of shiat a pistol can't. A short rifle still packs a long rifle punch. Plus, you can hide it easier.

They permit guns for hunting, sporting, and business... but generally not for self-defense. I don't know how it actually works though and how it effects the kinds of weapons you can buy.

The do have a controversial program where all guns must be registered with the state/

Is it all ITG to say "This guy only had a 22 and it wasn't even in his hands (he didn't draw it until police got there), I'd have done my best to bash his head open"? A textbook, metal trash can, school chair, just bum rushing him and slamming his head against the wall, etc.

As for the sentence, 3 to 6 years? WTF? How about his ass stays locked away until the shrinks clear him. He's clearly capable of planning and premeditation while being looney.

The gun control is at the level of the gun owner. I'm pretty sure a lot of people in Canada have guns.

It's a target/hunting pistol, I got that image off GIS, but the TC I used to shoot was a single shot bolt-action.

Obviously, it doesn't excuse his actions, but the poor guy sounds really farked up.

Dagenais recalled how an officer asked him whether he realized he had just "traumatized the children for life."

"Yes, 100 per cent," he replied. "And not just the children."

and

At the police station after his arrest, detectives asked Dagenais whether he wanted a lawyer, Yes, he told them, "because I'm neck-deep in s--t."

These quotes kind of highlight how, in reality, he's just really pathetic and screwed up. I hope he gets some proper treatment and can work towards not being dangerous and suicidal. Just tossing him in a jail cell for a few years isn't going to fix anything for anyone.

I'm not sure if Canada's incarceration system is more civilized than ours, but it seems like a good bet that it is.

Shame that it seems unlikely he will be institutionalized, as that would be the best place to rehabilitate him. He might be able to tell the difference between right and wrong, but clearly his judgement and rational is quite off. Rehabilitating him in the prison system will probably not address his mental issues, and once released into the general population there is no telling what he may be capable of...

After he receives treatment, do you still want him moving to your neighborhood?

No, but I would much rather him receive years of treatment and move to my neighborhood than stew in a jail cell for years and then move to my neighborhood.

Reading part two of Sherlock Holmes recently, it brought me joy to see them describe a sawed-off shotgun and remark that it was clearly an American weapon. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was on top of his shiat. The only story that brought me greater joy was the one describing and eviscerating the Origins of Mormonism.

I like how he bought a .22 to hunt bears and the psychological test said he was 'impulsive and suicidal'. It just fits so well.
