yep, although they don't pay much in consumption taxes but they do pay property taxes and don't send their kids to the schools those taxes pay for.

You have to expect a horse to be startled by encountering one.

I realize that driving a horse-drawn carriage is a typically Amish thing to do, but I don't see anything in the article mentioning that the people involved were Amish. We don't really have many Amish in New Hampshire, especially not in the southern part of the state where this happened. I've lived here for years and have never seen a single buggy on the road; I'm sure they exist, but there are probably fewer than 1000 Amish in the state. FTFA it sounds a lot more like a ride offered by a local farm.
