My sister said, at least twice, "Why do I keep having the urge to look up at the ceiling?"

At first I thought, "I have no idea." But when she persisted, I thought maybe she is connecting to what I am seeing, somehow.

We'll get past it, though as with all hangovers we're not recovering fast enough and we're just going to have to deal with some pain before we get better. In another ten years, we'll be fine again. The other thing we're dealing with is BushCo squandering our reputation. It will be a while before other countries trust us like they trusted pre 9/11 America again. That too I give about ten years.

I stopped using CNN as a valid online news source years ago, when Britney Spears was breaking headlines news. Every once in a while I go to see if they have anything relevant to say. But then, stuff like this happens (yes, actual screenshot, not a photoshop):

This happened to me.

My mother was on her death bed because of lung cancer that had spread to her brain. I knew it was only a matter of days before she passed, and I thought to myself that I better get a haircut since I didn't think I'd be in any shape to get one after she passed. I went to get a haircut, and as I was waiting a commercial played for Delilah which was a radio show we both frequently listened to together. The thought suddenly entered my mind "My Mama just died" but I didn't think much of it. The song "Wind Beneath My Wings" played afterwards. That thought entered my mind the exact moment my Mama died. She died at 2:45 and my receipt was 2:55. I still have the receipt. Later that day I was thinking of songs to play at her funeral. Naturally I thought of "Wind Beneath My Wings" when my uncle entered the room and said: "I was thinking the same thing. She mentioned something about it before." That was before he heard what happened to me.

That incident touched me deeply. It meant more to me than words can express. Sure, you're thinking it could've been a coincidence. You see, I'm a rational logical person as well. I thought "Maybe the thought of her dying was in my head" but it wasn't. I didn't expect her to pass for a couple more days.

What helped me even more than that was the first true lucid dream I had in years. I was going through a rough patch. I've always been fascinated by dreams. Dream psychology greatly interests me. Whenever I had a dream I tried my best to take control of it so I could see Mama one more time. I tried for such a long time and had nearly given up hope. Then this happened:

My Mama died on June 18th, and in December I got Chibi, my yorkiepoo. People wouldn't understand the comfort the unconditional love of an animal can give you after experiencing something like this. As I mentioned earlier, I was going through a rough period. I woke up to go to school and let Chibi out of my room so my Dad could play with him. I decided I couldn't go to school and went back to bed. I heard scratching on my door and then my dream happened:

I woke up laying on a black couch in a room with hardwood floors. The walls were white, and there was this warm, loving, and bright light engulfing it. I looked down and Chibi was walking across the floor and was looking at me. He had "woken me up" and it seemed as if he wanted me to follow him. I recognized that I was in control of the dream, but still not totally in control. I forced myself up from the couch, and slowly but surely gained my footing. I made it to an archway in the door which led into a kitchen with a wooden countertop and the cupboards were white. Chibi waited patiently as I made it to the archway and pulled myself up from a sideways stance. I was in control. He entered the kitchen and walked towards the side then disappeared. I thought to myself: "I'm going to see my Mama. I'm going to see my Mama" I looked around the room from the left to the right. On the right there was a wall of body length doors with windows in them. It's the same as was in the previous room. Warm, loving, glowing late radiated in. My Mama's recliner materialized with her back towards me. It was my Old Mama with her curly black hair. Not the one overcome with cancer. She had on the plaid shirt she often wore before cancer took its toll and she no longer could wear he old clothes. I tried to speak but the words wouldn't come out. I slowly walked towards her, and I made me way to her recliner. "Mama" I said, the words finally coming out. She looked back with the most wonderful smile I had ever seen on her face as if to tell me she forgave me and that everything was all right. I woke up.

I woke up with the overwhelming urge to write. I've always been a writer with a gift of the Word, but I had never written a poem before. I felt the overwhelming urge to write and this is what came out:

I saw Mama today.
Awakened by a slumber with the sound
of a brown and black yorkiepoo waltzing
on a brown hardwood floor

Bright, white, so very bright and white.
"Mama! Mama!" I say, but I don't really say
for the words are trapped inside of my soul
fighting to get out, please, let me will them to get out!
This time, please! It has been so long!
Out of my mind, into this place I've stumbled upon
thanks to the brown and black yorkiepoo waltzing
on a brown hardwood floor.

Bright, warm, loving light surrounds me
as I look down
to the brown and black yorkiepoo looking up at me
Looking as if to say nothing but everything as he walks into the next room
Leading me.
Disappearing.

the more and more my mind, my Will fights

It is something that is hard to believe!

"Mama" I say, returning the smile.

She smiles
saying nothing but saying everything
as to say that everything is all right
it'll be all right
as to say she forgives me
loves me

Brighter! Brighter, warmer, and more loving is the light!
Exponentially so from the wall of white and windows
Growing, in a flash but a flash that engulfs me
as she looks over her shoulder, smiling

I saw Mama today.
She is waiting in her chair
in Heaven
and it'll be all right.

That's my story. Dismiss the article with snark all you wish, but it made me gasp and brought tears to my eyes just knowing I'm not alone in having this happen.

i think ghosts should be in the news far more often. though, they could certainly use better stories than crisis apparitions. where the hell are the news articles that ghosts talk about? i'd much rather read their news about scientific progress they're achieving in talking to the living.

Absolutely, better than the BBC and CBC. Al Jazeera English is very neutral and calls it like it is whether it is an article that supports the Arabic side or the American side. They do have a lot of fun pointing out the stupidity of American politics.
