Yes. Though it's unlikely he'd be at 20 in the AL east.

That's what we call it down here because it's a total 180 from what the Dbacks were before. They didn't hustle, they didn't do the little things, they just didn't play hard. Kirk Gibson and the coaching staff has them doing all of that.

/Gibby for Manager of the Year
//Kennedy for Cy Young?
///Maybe not.

Still pissed that Kennedy didn't do it against the Dodgers last week. I would have liked to see something like that in person during my recent rampage in SoCal.

/have now been to all six west coast MLB parks
//16 down, 14 to go to get all the parks in
///Kennedy would have drowned in the AL East

Gibson for Manager of the Year and Kennedy for Cy Young and they're still cooked in three games against the Phils in the NLDS.

Didn't we get Granderson for him? I'm pretty happy with it.

Not especially. If you remember when he was traded he was coming off a season when he made all of 4 starts in AAA due to an aneurysm. Phil Hughes and Joba Chamberlain were both pitching in the majors and set to be plugged into the starting rotation along with Sabathia and Burnett (who'd had a good 1st season in the Bronx). Kennedy really wasn't in their plans at that point, and had shown a bit of an attitude problem when he was demoted by the Yankees in 2008 (with an ERA of 7.41 in 8 starts and 1 relief appearance).

Hindsight being 20/20, maybe the Yankees would have traded Joba instead, but either way there's no way to know what Kennedy would be doing in the AL East, and the Yankees turned him (and Austin Jackson) into a guy who essentially carried them offensively for about 80 games this year and is a legit MVP candidate.

No, like others have said we got Granderson, and I believe he would have had a lot of problems with his pitching style in the AL East

Yeah awful trade, we only got a guy that hit 41 homers and 115 Rbis, and the season still ain't over.

I mentioned weeks ago that everyone in that deal came out ahead, even with the Yankees giving up three players for just Granderson.
Jackson is a more than capable bat and fielder, Kennedy is a NL Cy contender and Phil Coke... um...

...anyway, everyone in that deal came out ahead

2011-09-20 04:37:55 PM
He certainly is a different pitcher than when he was on the Yankees. I was happy to see him go. It didn't seem like he was very well-liked by his teammates either.

As of today the Dbacks are a game behind Milwaukee for 2nd place in the NL. So it's certainly possible that the Dbacks will get cooked in four or five games in the NLCS, rather than in three in the NLDS.

the D'backs have never lost in a World Series year that began with 2 and ended with 1. It's science.

No. Yeah, it sucks to give up a guy like that, but what we got in return has worked out pretty well for us. MVP Candidate, one off the MLB lead in homers... Yeah, I'm happy enough having Granderson around.

When considering if a trade was good or not, you have to pay attention to what came back. Yeah, trading away young pitching talent sucks in a vacuum, but when you get better things back, it's not so bad.

When you say that you regret trading somebody away, that means that you think the player traded away is better than the one you got. As such, people would wonder why you weren't happy with Granderson.

You don't get MVP quality guys for peanuts. Young talent is pretty much always going to be a part of that deal, especially for fairly young MVP quality guys.

4-0 Yankees in the 2nd after a bases loaded, bases clearing double from Granderson (this after a blown call at first.. Gardner called safe on a drag bunt..replay showed him out by a full step).

1-0 Red Sox over O's in the 3rd

Braves up 3-0 over Fish in the 2nd

So is Granderson the MVP if he powers both the Yankees AND the Red Sox into the playoffs?

In other news, the road to the world series goes through Philly.

Bring it.

Well, Os just took a 2-1 lead so we'll see. Doesn't mean anything though.. Os had a lead in the late game yesterday, and we know how THAT turned out.

Greinke and King Felix winning supports everyone's argument for Kershaw. I think he wins it. Kennedy just doesn't have the k rate.

Wade Davis is at 76 pitches through 3 innings.
Meanwhile, Ivan Nova is on pace to throw 78 pitches over the full 9 innings (he's at 26 through 3)

Felix Hernandez won it in 2010 and the Mariners went 61-101.
Zach Greinke won it in 2009 and the Royals went 65-97.
Cliff Lee won it in 2008 and the Indians went 81-81.
Tim Lincecum won it in 2008 and the Giants went 72-90.
Brandon Webb won it in 2006 and the Diamondbacks went 80-82.

2011-09-20 08:53:10 PM
still 4-0 in the Bronx in the 5th
O's being the Os, the Red Sox have tied it up at 4 with bases loaded and no one out btm 4th (1 out via K as I type this)
Braves still up 3-0 in the 6th
Mets clinging to a 1-0 lead over Cards in the 3rd

2011-09-20 08:57:06 PM
..and Jeter gets his 2081st hit, which may or may not tie Cap Anson, depending on which number for Anson you use

/5-4 Boston after 4

2011-09-20 09:43:31 PM
Ivan Nova gets out of a bases loaded, no out jam in the 7th inning without allowing a run

2011-09-20 09:46:12 PM
Nova comes out of a bases-loaded, 0 outs jam unscathed in the 7th. 5-0 Yankees
Still 5-4 Red Sox over Os in the 7th
Braves still up 4-0 in the 8th
Mets barely holding on 4-3 over Cards in the 5th

Yup, and if Kershaw wins 20 on that team he should be a lock.

2011-09-20 10:10:00 PM
Nova goes 8 2/3 leaving a man on 1st after a walk with a 5-0 lead, Lefty Specialist Boone Logan coming in
Braves three outs away from staunching the bleeding, though the Mets have choked away their lead and are tied at 5 with the Cards in the 6th
Red Sox still up 5-4 in the top of the 8th, but Os have 2 on, 2 out

2011-09-20 10:14:38 PM
Papelbon blows the save in the 8th, 6-5 Os

2011-09-20 10:17:04 PM
7-5 rather.. also Braves won, so if the Mets can unfark themselves for a bit and beat the Cards, the Braves can get a bit of breathing room tonight
