2003-09-19 02:12:22 PM
Well, we can at least be thankful that the war ended a couple of months ago or else there'd be a lot more explosions and killing and stuff.

2003-09-19 02:13:16 PM
A U.S. military policeman at the scene told Reuters that it appeared a roadside bomb had been detonated but nobody was injured.

Something violent happening in Baghdad is to a Newsflash like a fly in your Chardonnay is to ironic.
Even still, I do find it ironic that I would let illiterate Alanis Morrisette go down on me in a theatre.

Stories like this are rapidly becoming less "news" and more "business as usual." Wake me on a day when something doesn't explode in Iraq.

But alas cgs, there were no fatalities.. Thus the opportunity for a funny headline.

What is it with FOX and Fark? Every news article comes from FOX!! Okay, not every. But the majority. How about a little "Fair and Balanced" linking, Fark?

And beyond that, this is very far from a news flash. What is going on with the admins/moderators/whoever? If you're going to put up news, make it news. Not this drivel. We already know how bad the situation is in Iraq. You could have of had a news flash yesterday when three more american soldiers were killed in a gun battle. Thank you.

That is a truly excellent question. Unfortunately, it's probably impossible to know the answer - despotic regimes don't tend to be very forthcoming about how many of their citizens have been disappeared.

Arr, it do be a bad day in the news for swabby Bush.

My comment stands on its own as a general historical observation, and as such, I leave it as an exercise to the reader to draw applicability towards current-day events.

celston Question: Are more people dying per day than when Saddam was in power? Just wondering...

I was going to respond to this in pirate talk, but it struck me as too serious to joke about.

U.N. sanctions caused by Saddam killed roughly 1 million children. That figure is up to debate, but 1 million is a somewhat conservative estimate. Some quick math shows that meant roughly 210 childrens deaths per day. (1 million / 13 years of sanctions / 365 days per year ~= 210)

Of course, 210 childrens deaths per day does not even equal how many combat deaths the coalition has had since the war began. From the Iraqi side, thousands died in the war, and the effect of old sanctions still lingers. Because of this, the total deaths from before the war and immediately after the war are probable the same. Fortunately, the situation in Iraq is improving, but it will be some months or years before the effects of sanctions are gone, and you wont have such massive daily death tolls.

Like I would believe anything from Faux News anyways. Jeebus Cripes, it sucks that Dubya got us into this quagmire.
