Her claim that HPV vaccine can make girls mentally disabled should be viewed as slander.

2011-09-15 10:50:04 AM
FTFA: He acknowledged "there's no empirical data other than one individual woman coming up to her," to back up the claim, which has drawn fire from Rush Limbaugh and others on the right as well as the medical establishment.

In politics, as was so beautifully illustrated with the partial-birth abortion ban in the 90s, the bald plumber from Ohio in 2008, that's all you need, right?

Bachmann is finished. The HPV vaccine is a good thing. The problem is Perry's unilateral action mandating it. Punt it to the legislature, sign the bill they pass. If they're not in session, set the executive order to expire around the time they'd finish their next legislative session. If they don't pass the same thing, well, it's over, done. You tried to do the right thing, and the legislature didn't back you up, permanently.

/facepalm. I didn't watch the debate. Football was on.

Ed Rollins always seemed like a decent enough guy. I wonder why he chooses to help Republicans. And Bachmann of all people.

hurdboy: The problem is Perry's unilateral action mandating it.

Exactly.

It's not enough focusing on the actually problem. No! She has to go even further and start fear-mongering the HPV vaccine, ensuring less people get it.

Of all the things in modern science people could disagree with (nukes, biological and chemical weapons), vaccines are the LAST thing I would think people would disparage. The are arguably the single greatest discovery in the history of mankind.

What's worse, support for vaccination is become politicized! Unfarking believable!

Mandrake, do you realize that in addition to fluoridating water, why, there are studies underway to fluoridate salt, flour, fruit juices, soup, sugar, milk... ice cream. Ice cream, Mandrake, children's ice cream.

"She made a mistake," Rollins said on MSNBC. "The quicker she admits she made a mistake and moves on, the better she is."

This, this, this, this, and more this.

Seriously, spewing this shiat leads to people thinking it might be true. Your stupid farking lie is going to get derptarded mothers not vaccinating their girls and here specifically, they'll get cervical cancer.

Stand up, admit you were wrong, admit what you did could potentially cause harm, clear the record that the HPV vaccine is good and safe and important for girls to get and apologize. You've already got the derpy fringe, Michelle, this will garner some favor with the less derpy.

When she said that Paul Revere warned the British that the Americans were coming, her fans changed Wikipedia.

When she said the revolution started in Concord New Hampshire, she said that Massachusetts wasn't proud of the revolution, which is only true if you're talking about our soccer team.

What?! Since when does the modern GOP rely on "empirical data" for anything at all?

My gut tells me that what Michele Bachmann said is true, and that's good enough for me!

No. Science associations really need to hammer down hard on this. Make this a huge issue. Make it so that if any ONE thing can point to Bachmann being thrown out on her arse, it's this.

This anti-vax bullshat needs to stop, because it's dangerous as fark.

Jesus Christ, she's a moron...

I can't even imagine the level of mental retardation it takes to start thinking this woman is a good choice to lead the United States.

I just hope subby wasn't try to imply that Rollins' comments about her dumb remarks weren't the reason he's become an ex. Didn't he quit awhile ago?

I don't even believe this exchange ever happened. I want the "mother" to step forward and say it was here.

I think she completely made this up on the spot.

Dude, I'm in 100% agreement with you, I was just stating the obvious that she's unqualified for so many more reasons. I work in the biological sciences, anti-vaccine BS and anti-evolution BS are two of my biggest pet peeves.

I was watching Anderson Cooper talk about this last night. He was hammering this same guy about all this factually inaccurate stuff Bachman says. He was just sort of blaming it on the fact that Michelle likes to do her own "research" and doesnt depend on her advisors. He really wasn't answering coopers questions. Then he made a comment that Bachman hears things said on TV and sort of expands on them.

This is what I have always thought. Bachman is an idiot who gets her news from right wing Fox pundits and then tries to out-derp said pundits by adding extra helpings of crazy to the bullshiat she overhears. The story a while back about Obama taking a bazillion dollar trip to India was a perfect example of this.

2011-09-15 02:22:10 PM

tallguywithglasseson: Whoa, Ed Rollins was Bachmann's campaign manager?

Yes, but he quit before the vaccine bs. The funny part was when Matthews asked him about Bachmann being a good president.

liverleef: He was just sort of blaming it on the fact that Michelle likes to do her own "research" and doesnt depend on her advisors.

My god. She really is stupider than I figured.

Some of the shat she was spewing made me suspect that some of her researchers were deliberately feeding her bullshat to get back at her for something.

Turns out, she's that researcher.

I'm not ready for her to be out of the race. There is still so much damage she can do to the GOP by staying in.

2011-09-15 02:36:35 PM
I think it's pretty obvious she hears or reads something she can use to her advantage, maybe expands it to make it more dramatic, and then repeats it.

Then, when she gets called on it, she might either double down or make some excuse before dropping it and moving onto the next talking point.

/Not sure this anything new in politics
//Also, not in any way one of her supporters

2011-09-15 02:38:53 PM
I don't think this particular comment will hurt her chances for the nomination (the general on the other hand, yes). The people stupid enough to vote for her in the first place weren't going to change their views of her even in the face of her retarded HPV vaccine comment because they probably DO believe this.

2011-09-15 02:40:51 PM
I predicted a few weeks ago that Bachmann, being as undisciplined as she is, was going to get even more erratic and outlandish in her statements as her support begins to erode.

I don't know how many campaign managers she has gone through, but coaching someone like her must be an absolute nightmare. Getting her to stay on task and maintain a consistent point of view seems to be next to impossible.

2011-09-15 02:45:06 PM
So if the HPV vaccine makes one retarded, does actually getting HPV (and cervical cancer) boost one's intelligence?

2011-09-15 02:51:46 PM

Minus1Kelvin: Dude, I'm in 100% agreement with you, I was just stating the obvious that she's unqualified for so many more reasons. I work in the biological sciences, anti-vaccine BS and anti-evolution BS are two of my biggest pet peeves.

You seem to be under the mistaken impression that being unqualified for many reasons is something that will stop someone getting the GOP nomination, which is obviously untrue as at least one of them will end up with the nomination and all them are unqualified for many reasons.

2011-09-15 02:55:32 PM

QFT. No candidate that disbelieves evolution or thinks that vaccinations make you retarded with no evidence to back that view up will ever get a vote from me.

2011-09-15 02:59:50 PM
There's another place you can see this kind of thing on a regular basis. The instant credulousness towards some insidious threat or "embellishment" of personal experiences to raise an alarm. The cause is a noble one so a little creativity is excused or ignored.

/hot for jesus!

2011-09-15 03:13:41 PM
If the HPV vaccine didn't cause mental retardation, why would someone tell Michelle that it caused her daughter to be mentally retarded after she was vaccinated? Bachmann is way ahead of the curve on this one.

2011-09-15 03:25:31 PM
Funny how she lied early and often about Dems and Obama and no one really cared. But one lie about a fellow conservative and suddenly her campaign is over.

2011-09-15 03:26:07 PM
Final proof that Bachman go tthe HPV vaccine.

2011-09-15 03:28:06 PM
Republicans hate the idea of people having consequence free sex. If Bachmann had pursued this same line of attack against a Democrat, the Tea Party would be saying she was totally right or the "science hasn't been settled yet" or what have you.
