She was doing OK up until she compared Solyndra to Enron

Roads to drive on? Armies to protect us from foreign aggression? Safe food/water? Safe medicines? Fire Departments? Those are just all gifts from JEEEZUS to protect us, no need to pay for any of that stuff.

Society has costs. Don't like living in a society? Go to Somalia, no government to take your money.

She is right, submittard.

Who the hell coaches her? Cripes, it's not that difficult to explain to the masses why we actually need taxes and why, as Americans, we should be proud to support the U-S-A., U-S-A! (See? It's always better when you repeat USA... it endears yourself to the Real Americans™)

Something like..."America is a great country. To continue to be the best country in the world, we need to support those things that make us great."

...followed by rousing speech about keeping a strong military, nice roads so that you don't break an axle on the trip down to your local Dunkin Donuts, maintaining those parks you take your kids, the baseball and soccer fields your precious little snowflakes play their sports, those guys in the blue uniforms that are there to protect you from bad guys, and those people in those big shiny red trucks that will rush to put out that fire you've just started after trying to deep fry a turkey for that most special stuff your gullet and watch football day of the year...

... and so on.

Taxes are so evil that they were included in article 3 of the Constitution of the United States, the most evil document ever created.

To be fair, the
top 1% already own America through tax cuts.

And generally the ones with the most money did the least work to get it.

I see yall have this covered already. Good jorb.

Now let's watch all the people that normally cry about the (false) statistic that 50% of Americans don't pay taxes shake in a fat, sweaty rage over this.

"Deserve" was a stupid word to use. "Expect" would have been fine.

More importantly, that site has a "nose pickers caught on camera" section.

2011-09-15 11:33:17 AM
Aren't politicians supposed to be skilled at phrasing things in a manner such that it doesn't completely torpedo your platform?

Jesus, the "deserving" argument is a conservative strawman big enough to see from space and you still fed it by using their exact language.

2011-09-15 11:34:20 AM
While her point is sound, she shouldn't have actually said "You don't deserve to keep all of it". That's just stupid. Also bringing up Enron, really?

Thanks for the assist Jan!

She's right. Though you may still find a few havens in the modern era, the time of anarchy has passed. If you feel that this is in any way unfair, you are welcome to relocate to one of the aforementioned anarchist utopias.

Might I recommend Somalia? I hear they're fond of rich Americans over there.

I believe that is the basic premise of taxation, subby. Money exists because government exists. If there was no government, there would be no money and we'd be bartering instead, until the difficultly and inconvenience of bartering inevitably led to creation of a monetary system, the operators of which would become a de facto government as it inevitably made rules, took a cut and hired armed defense to sustain and protect its operation.

Not false. Almost half have paid no federal income tax in the last 3 years. Nobody says they don't pay any taxes.

How is it possible for these retards to keep two diametrically opposite ideas top-of-mind at all times?

A. "We are the greatest nation ever, a shining beacon for the world with the greatest and bestest of everything, blessed by God Almighty Himself!"

B. "Our governmental institutions are the most vile, corrupt thing that ever happened, and we absolutely can't afford the costs of greatness."

Pick a farking lane, tards.

Why would he do that? The point is that he wants a working government.

The Dog Ate The Constitution: Nobody says they don't pay any taxes.

Plenty do. And either people lap it up like idiots or, when they get called on it, say "oh that's what I said...*federal taxes*" (when they actually didn't). More to the point, most people DO pay federal taxes, but that 40-whatever percent don't OWE them and receive a refund of what they paid (and sometimes more, thanks to programs widened by noted socialist Ronald Reagan).

Wouldn't you tell somebody who doesn't like government spending being reigned in to move to a country where government spending is supposedly rampant? Like Sweden?

Hmmm...that might not be such a bad idea. Does anybody have any evidence of what Swedish women might look like?

But I do like it. Cutting government spending is absolutely necessary -- as is raising taxes back to a sustainable level.

I know the whole "if you don't like it, then leave" shtick is really your thing, but it really applies here, as taxes aren't something new, and they aren't going anywhere. You've known about this situation your entire life, so shut up about it or go somewhere else.

And the government will tell you what you/I/we decide to do with your money.

A working government is not a government that works solely for itself.

Government isn't going away but it's going to get smaller.

From everything I'm hearing if you don't like it then you should move to Sweden.

My father, for one. We had a nice little shouting match about teabaggers in general before he publicly disowned me and promised to write me out of his will.

Side note: I know the guy is head-over-heels in debt, so I never expected to get a red cent from him; however, if he "disowns" me, does this absolve me of paying off his mountain of debt when he passes? I'm sure the old fart has plenty of time left, so this isn't terribly time-sensitive...

So we should stop being hypocrites and only pay tribute to god instead of paying tribute to Caesar? Because that was the lesson of that parable.

Luke 16:13

Basically the exact same lesson. I guess you suppose the government is serving god?

Read em and weep.

Shoulda thrown in Romans 13 for good measure.

It would be low, as I really don't need you. (Gun is locked and loaded for vermin hunting. I bagged one 2 weeks ago)

And there are many things that we decide to do together like have our national security. Like have police and fire. What about the people that work at the National Institute of Health who are looking for a cure for cancer," Schakowsky said.

Speaking of the "How much do you think I DESERVE to keep?" line of BS, what was CNN and the Tea Party thinking trying to pass that trust fund douche off as somebody who has to earn his money during Monday's debate?
