Not necessarily true. The bank lends that money out.

of course you are filled with hate, I get that.

they donate a lot to charity, a lot more than Biden or 0bama did before running for President, so go direct your hate to them.

Joe Biden had a net worth of $100K when he was a senator. The F1 guy has a net worth of over $4.2 billion. Doing just a little bit of math, Ecclestone is 42,000 times richer than Biden. If Biden donated $1000 before being elected (to pick a nice, even, round number), the Ecclestone equivalent would be $42 million to match that as a percent of income. I realize that this doesn't take into account that a much higher percentage of Biden's net worth is tied up in things like housing, transportation, utilities, and food than Ecclestones, so he doesn't have as much free income. But, you know, math is fun.

How luxury goods 'stimulate' the economy.

Item: $1.6 million crystal bathtub.
$1.2 million: Crystal dealer/broker/locator
$300,000: Private security, bribes to South American government, transport
$50,000: Accountant to write off expenses as charity
$30,000: Contractors to install plumbing fixtures
$18,000: Cocaine ("We were passing through Bolivia coming back")
$1,700: Food and petty expenses
$300: Team of over 70 68 62 impoverished natives to extract giant piece of crystal from side of mountain

So technically it does create jobs...

She prolly bathes in virgin blood.

Let em spend it then we can laugh one day when someone picks it up at her yard sale for $1000. Eh if I could make a crystal tub I would enjoy taking her money .

I need a new tub :( well Id like a whole bathroom renovation its straight from the 70s

It used to be a joke (sorta), but now it's really true: you can only get a loan if you don't need it.

TheirThey'reNow: CowboyNinjaD: The problem with the "It's stimulating the economy" argument is that it's really not. It's billionaires buying overpriced bullshiat from millionaire boutique owners who employ a bunch of retail workers making shiat wages. There's no legitimate economic development. It's just a rich asshole circle-jerk.

Sales tax/GST? Or do they pay cash and skip that? Agreed (as a business owner) that tax cuts for businesses are BS-the businesses that get them are exactly the ones that shouldn't.

That sales tax is nice, but it's not actually stimulating the economy. Let's say I'm super-rich, and I have millions in cash (not to mentions hundreds of millions in assets), just burning a whole in my pocket. Now I could buy a gold-plated jet and dozens of Ferraris I'm only going to drive once a year, or I could use that money to expand my own business and invest in other people's businesses. Build factories, buy equipment, hire workers, shiat that actually bolsters an economy.

That's why in LA she has maximised what she calls her 'publicity potential'. Lunch at the Ivy - where paparazzi stalk the pavements - was followed by dinners at Madeo, Katsuya, STK and Boa . . . all high-profile hang-outs.

Ah yes I forgot being a rich spoiled attention whore was a career now. I don't care what their bank statements say these people are worthless.

No. FARK you! I hate people like you. You complain about other people's spending habits, but how many pairs of shoes do you have? Five? Ten? More? You complain about their spending, but you greedily fill your closet with all kinds of shoes. I have to admit if I were her I'd probably buy a few things I don't really need. HOWEVER I wouldn't spend almost 2m on a flippin bathtub. I'd get myself a hell of a nice one but there is so much more I'd rather spend that money on. Hell you can get one hell of a house for almost 2m. Especially in this economy.

I'd also buy a much better computer. I'd have a nice phone that could go on the net. Probably have myself a nice little cinema in my house. Things like that. I'd also buy myself some nice clothes. Maybe make myself a gym in my house. Things like that.

What gets me about her is that from one side of her mouth she's claiming how her parents taught her & her sister the value of money & a good deal. Then from the other side of her mouth she's bragging about spending almost 2m on a friggen tub. Now I love a good bubble bath but that's just farkin nuts.

Unless you are willfully ignorant of the current economic climate I'll spell it out.... the banks are sitting on billion dollar piles of cash right now, successful companies are sitting on billions dollar piles of cash right now - in short everyone who has money which could be being used to start new businesses or hire new people is sitting on it - yes that $250k could have been a loan to someone but banks are not in any kind of liquidity crush hoping someone will give them some money so they can make a small business loan. The US gov't basically wrote them a blank check and begged them to start loaning money - its not happening and they need so little extra money that CD's are paying all of 1% on anything short of a 3 year CD.

Her $1.6 million dollar tub at least put $1.6 million dollars back in to circulation even if most of it was probably to people who are only slightly less rich than she is - at least SOME of it found its way into some poor schmucks pocket.

Fact: Rich people are obsessed with lavish spending on negligibly-improved amenities.
Problem: Poor people resent rich people flaunting their wealth as if it were virtue.

Solution: Make anything a rich person buys expensive. $4 shampoo for rich people is now $5,000. A $0.50 candy bar is $700. It's the exact same product the 'little people' enjoy but the rich can once more feel exclusive without fear of torches, pitchforks and guillotines.

Well yeah, but the rich person wants to feel like they're getting something - anything - that's exclusive to him and his ilk for the extra money. So there has to be something different about the product. Like, maybe charge rich guys extra for bottled water but it's exclusive because it's imported from Fiji or something stupid like that.

I have no problem with wealthy people spending millions on luxury items, but if they're going to shell out ridiculous sums of money, can't they at least try to show a modicum of good taste in the process? The stuff the Ecclestone sisters are spending money on all screams "chav who somehow got money" and it's tacky as all get out.

You have just described trickle down economics and the logic behind conservative tax theory. When the rich have money they sepnd it and buy stuff - or better yet - invest it in their business so it can make more money for them. And when they do - they create jobs - which creates consumers - which creates more jobs, etc, etc.

On the other hand, if your gov't confiscates said money, it will use it to create huge beaurocrasies with the idea of redistributing the wealth to those less fortunate. So jobs won't be created and less money will flow into the economy, further stymying economic growth - while making government bigger, more powerful and more intrusive.

Line forms to the right to switch parties.
