Andy Sandberg and Justin Timberlake made me care again with "Dick in a box". It was more consistently funny back in the early 90's with Carvey, Hartman and the crew.

Oh and to the Jimmy Fallon hater, I could care less about him, "The Barry Gibb Talk Show" is awesome shiat.

It is criminal to have two Palin sketches and not include the VP debate.

Nah, I still think it sucks. Then again, I haven't really watched it since Dennis Miller stopped doing the Weekend Update, so...

Has anyone ever laughed at any of Kenan Thompson's skits? That guy is beyond terrible. I almost feel bad for him. Almost.

Without looking at the list or this thread so far, I'm guessing at least 5 of them are digital shorts, and at least 3 have Justin Timberlake in them. And now, the list...

This is one of my favorites of the past couple years. It takes a while to get going but is so stupid and right up my comedy alley:

SNL - Potato Chip

People have always thought SNL wasn't funny--for decades.

It is funny. The sketches are just too long.

It's what makes 30 Rock great.

But SNL is paced like a marriage, and 30 Rock is paced like a honeymoon.

I'm with you on that one. I wish they'd do more skits like that but with Forte gone they won't.

Yes, Jon Hamm's John Ham and The Underground Festival were funny. Stefon is very funny. And count me among those who enjoy every Scared Straight and What's Up With That?

But the funniest sketch of the last 3 years was the Potato Chip Thief, hands down.

Jim from Saint Paul: Oh and to the Jimmy Fallon hater, I could care less about him, "The Barry Gibb Talk Show" is awesome shiat.

Agreed. It is easy to hate on Jimmy Fallon, but between his Neil Young impression and that last Barry Gibb Talk Show, I have to give him mad props. That was really funny.

Cannot stand Fred Armisen, I think Hader does a spot on 'retro' announcer/host, but is under utilized for many things.

Cannot stand Seth Meyers, at all. Really? Really. REALLY!??! Shut the fark up already Seth Meyers, that skit/routine is farking terrible. Really.

Geek Squad,

Watch his White House Correspondents Dinner act and tell me he wasn't funny. It was scathing.

This list shouldn't include anything Timberlake has done, because it's so far above and beyond the rest of the shows that it isn't fair a) to him, because you're leaving out good stuff, and b) to everyone else having to measure up against it.

And yeah, 70% or more of it sucks, but those hour reruns I grew up with from the 90's cut out a lot of the suck and inflated the perceived quality of the show. The show needs to stay 90 minutes, because you never know what sketches are going to turn out to be gold or not. Barry Gibb is a great example of somethiing that was kinda off the wall that would've been cut from an hour show.

rickythepenguin: bglove25: I think I may be the only one, but I love the scarred straight skits.

the x factor for those is the guest host. you know what you're getting with the 3 "criminals" (hader, samberg, the other guy), the balck guy is a known quanity, sudeikis is a known quantity....the guest star is what makes or breaks the sketch.

when they're good, they can be laugh your farking balls off good. but when the guest host isn't really selling it, it comes off flat. and the thing is, unlike what up with that, or gay stefon, or fo rtha tmatter, any sketch, the writing isn't really the X factor, it is the performance. again, the sketch is paint-by-numbers. You know excatly what is going to happen.

taylor swift really sucked when she did it, i think betty white did it but i don't recall.....there have been a few where that sketch just kills and others where it is like, "ok, well, that was 5 minutes of no laughs, next sketch up!"

*sigh* someone should write a book about this.

Seriously, Drew put it right in there, SNL isn't any better or worse than it was, it's just that the Best Of is always good. You don't want to sit and watch 10 years of Saturday Night Live, because it'll suck and be boring, you want to wait 10 years and watch the Best Of, and you'll think it's awesome. My wife and I did that and she said "We should start watching SNL" and I said "No, we should wait ten years and watch the next best of." She tried to watch two episodes, they were awful.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have the inexplicable urge to break-out the Mr. Show DVDs.

kukukupo: No. Not funny.

SNL stopped being even minorly humorous around 1997-1998 and hasn't done anything worthwhile since.

Ha! Love that sketch.

"But why Mr. Turnblatt?"

"Because they're hungry Ginelda......because they're hungry!"

The sketches where he played "creepy sex offender" guy are also hilarious.

crappy editors, I guess. I don't think that anyone in the comedy business knows exactly what's going to strike a nerve.

MiamiBlues: I'll never understand why any company is against free publicity

I assume it's because their advertisers don't allow it. Advertising people seem to be terrified that if the shows go on the internet that they will lose all of the exposure that they are paying for. So, the people paying for the project don't really care about the show's critical success, they only care about it's ability to get people to watch their ads

Forty-Two: Oh, what about the Peyton Manning United Way ad?

Came here to say this... glad it's been covered.

Still glad to see Celebrity Jeopardy was on there. Whole thing was awesome except Kristen Wiig, she just sucked.

Most of those were great, hadn't seen quite a few of them. Bill Hader was great; loved his Alda and Pacino impressions. Jon Hamm was pretty damn good too.

Guy who did the Cosby impression should be shot, he sucks in everything I've ever seen him in on SNL.

/Watches SNL occasionally
//I wanted a pickle

nekom: Other than celebrity Jeopardy, I see nothing in that list worth even giving a chance to.

THIIIIISSSSS!!!!!! How is Adam Sandberg even remotely considered funny? I seriously want my time back for watching those unfunny clips!

/But yeah, the Jeopardy bit was freakin' hilarious

I've been watching SNL since the Belushi days and I stopped watching after Samberg joined the cast. He's completely unfunny to the point that he makes Dane Cook look like Carlin. When he leaves, I might start to watch again.

I have been watching the past season or two if I'm home and Saturday nights and it definitely has some good moments. I just think anyone who types the word "hater" is an idiot and should receive an electric shock through their keyboard that renders them sterile.

I did a blind buy for the first season or two of that on DVD. I don't remember cracking a smile once. WAY too much song and dance, as I recall. It just felt awkward. Then again, I see nothing funny at all in Flight of the Concords. Nothing. At all. I suppose I'm in the minority with this stuff though. I mean, I loved David Cross on Arrested Development. Just not Mr. Show.

Most of those fall into one (or more) of three categories:

1) Sketches with former cast members
2) Lonely Island videos
3) Sketches with Justin Timberlake

When touting how great the current cast is, you shouldn't bring as example sketches carried by former cast or Timberlake. The Lonely Island stuff is borderline cheating as well.

So, they found around 30 minutes of funny footage from the available 300,000 minutes or so?

SNL hasn't been funny since the moment my teenaged self decided that staying home on Saturday night and watching TV until 1AM was no longer an ideal use of time!
