Of course it's doable, but why? Modern plants can be built to be 100% safe and produce virtually no waste using breeder methods. As an added complication, if we assume that dramatic climate change is virtually unavoidable at this point, then increasing our glut of hydro plants is asinine: without glacier- and snow-fueled rivers, this method of power generation will literally dry up. While it is certainly a good idea to invest in alternatives, it makes absolutely no sense to phase out nuclear power entirely unless/until we have viable, comparable, cost-effective alternatives.

Switzerland also has a tremendous amount of hydroelectric power available to them, something of which that very not every other country can avail itself at the same scale or proportion of national demand. So they're kind of a singular case, really.

But then again, Germany is the center of European solar energy generation, so anything's possible.

This is exactly why power generation with nuclear energy should be run by the state. Remove the profit incentive, and maintenance/proper construction aren't an issue. We shouldn't be looking to take steps backwards because we had a few problems with nuclear power so far.

They're a small and dense enough country that they can probably get away with this without having to restructure the distribution networks too much, too. Probably not a bad move on their part if they decide to actually go with this idea.

The soviet-run Chernobyl plant was able to set up a system of perverse incentives to make their disaster a reality.

No matter who's in charge, people are always going to be greedy. It can be a contractor who's told to cut costs or finish early, it can be a manager who's told to make plant operators work longer hours, or any other number of people that aren't unilaterally allowed to make their own budget.

The profit motive is an awful thing in nuclear power, but it's not the only awful thing. I love nuclear technology, but people have proven time and time again that they suck at it, and it only takes one bad egg to cause a major catastrophe. I'd love to build more nuclear plants, but there's going to have to be an unprecedented level of public access in order to do so safely.

Actually, if you want to play technicalities, the colloquially used "nuclear power" refers specifically to nuclear fission. The sun generates energy primarily through nuclear fusion, so in that sense, not all power comes from "nuclear power". Moreover, the process that creates the heavy element necessary for nuclear fission is in fact a process of nuclear fusion... so again in that sense nuclear power does not come from "nuclear power".

If you put a specific command in the command line (right click) so that the game only uses one processor core, it fixes all problems.

Yep.

However, I figured out how to get 0 traffic issues.

Build subway stations on every other street corner. No corner with a subway station should be adjacent to a corner with a subway station. Same for without. (Think of the squares on a chessboard). Now build subway lines connecting every single station. If a line gets too crowded, build a line immediately parallel. Boom, everyone walks/rides to work. (this will however kill your commercial sectors as they heavily depended on the 33000 cars going down the street outside (not joking about 33,000).

/Other good tricks:
To spend $0 on landfills, take a midsized city. Build an island at the far corner of the map. Surround it with about a quarter of the maps worth of water. Now, put nothing but the waste incinerator plants on the island and build one tiny long bridge to get their. Set funding to $0. The plants won't produce any power, but they'll still burn trash (and produce lots of pollution, which is why you put them at the far corner of the map, and surrounded them with water).

To prevent a meltdown*, turn the tax on poor people up to the max.

*Some further explanation is probably required. Basically, you'll have a city of about 30 - 40K mid and high income people who largely work in the brand new high tech sectors because you JUST got education high enough for high-tech industry. At about this time, abut 5K new immigrants show up to live in the first low-income high-density building. Because immigrants in this game are ALWAYS stupid (and usually poor), your cities education drops JUST low enough to force all the high-tech (high-income) stuff to leave. This triggers the conversion of every high and mid-income building into low-income buildings that hold half the tax dollars and 3 times the people. So now your city holds 100K poor, largely unemployed stupid people with maybe 80% of the tax dollars of the 40K who stretch every bit of infrastructure to it's limits. Once I've hit one of these death spirals, I've never gotten back out. The only way to stop it is to stop the arrival of all the new immigrants, so the moment your education drops, you simply send taxes sky-high, and overinvest in education until your education levels are high enough.
