Bon Scott would like a word, as would Roger Daltry, Mick Jagger, Ozzy etc. Yes Freddie was top notch, but to say he was the best as fact rather than opinion is silly.

Those guys are all great, but none of them could pull off something like Bohemian Rhapsody.

Yeah, but Freddy Mercury couldn't do their schticks either. It's all subjective.

/Freddy Mercury is one of the things Fark loves, though...

He probably could have sung all their stuff. The man had an incredible vocal range, but the persona...no.

Ya know what would be great? A Queen movie. But one played in a web browser. Dunno what I'd use for it, though.

I only liked the Queen songs that everybody knows, "We are the Champions" "Another One Bites the Dust" "Bohemian Rhapsody", etc. But after giving this entire video a listen, I am a Queen fan.

So, Fark, suggestions for a player?

Someone that likes the song '39 is a bandwagon fan? I've never once heard it on the radio, or in a movie, on a tv show, or in a commercial. I only know it from inheriting a vinyl copy of A Night at the Opera when I was younger. I always considered it a lesser-known gem of their catalogue. But then again I'm only 25, so maybe it was big back in your day, old-timer. Kids these days aren't very likely to be familiar with it, even if they are fans of Queen's well known songs.

LOVE '39. Beautiful chorus. Ex turned me on to A Night At The Opera a few years ago and it's crept into my top 20. Can't recommend it enough.

Also, I love that this thread was so active. Happy Birthday, Freddie.

HA! Freddie live from 74'-81ish (minus quite bit of 1978 bc his voice was shot) had great range. Listen/look up videos from Houston 77, Hammersmith 75', or Hammersmith 79' (also my favorite Queen show.. better than Wembley 86'). He lit it up.. hands down better frontman than Plant

Queen vs Rush, GO!

Ok, I'll bite.

Musicianship:
Queen: 4 averagely competent musicians, technical-ability wise, maybe May is a little higher than the rest.
Rush: 3 AWESOMELY more-than-competent musicians, technical-ability wise.

Writing:
Queen: 4 Great song writers, all writing both lyrics and music.
Rush: 1 great lyricist, two great music-writers.

Stage Presence / charisma:
Queen: Freddie trumps everything in Queen and Rush.
Deacon's the "Entwhistle". May is a quiet nice polite guy.

Rush: None of them really have that great of a stage presence. Peart may as well be a robotic 8-armed octopus.
Lifeson and Lee occasionally ham-it-up on stage. They have a good sense of humour on stage and in their projection videos in concert.

2011-09-05 08:57:50 PM

SnakeMan: Am I hallucinating, or did Fark change the headline? Could have sworn the original headline included his real name.

You're not hallucinating, they changed it. Some mod must've thought the name was too Muslim or something.

Barcelona brings a tear to my eye..a whole song made of dust I tell ya.

The opera singer (monserrat i think is her name)Said in a documentary that she gets requests to sing it, but can't do it because Freddie was such a special person and she would have to find someone that was just as special

Yeah, Queen were my first concert as well, Detroit, 1980... front row.. AWESOME concert.. Happy Birthday Freddie.. we DO miss you..

now, Fark mods.. I can see where some stuff gets denied for submission, but the last 2 years in a row I submitted and was declined, a Happy Birthday for John Deacon, the bass player for Queen, now this isn't about ME not getting a greenlight, it is about John not being included in the birthday greetings.. LOL.. I don't care WHO gets it.. just show John some love too.. in the 5 years I have been coming to this site I have only seen 1 birthday wish for John.. but Freddie gets it each and every year... not fair.. John was as much a member of Queen as Freddie was.. lets face it, without John Deacon we wouldn't have had Another one Bites the Dust, or You're My Best Friend..

Ok, I am done, flame me all you want.. I don't care, I just want equal love for Queen members on their birthday...
