They're both fans of cheating teams and they're both from Alabama, so there's a strong resemblance. It's an easy mistake to make.

The Auburn faithful believe the Tigers fan in the commercial -- dressed in a Tiger costume and riding a four-wheeler -- is portrayed in a foolish manner or as a pizza delivery man.

As a former pizza delivery man, I resent being compared to Auburn fans.

What did Auburn do to cheat? Be specific.

Hmmm. I don't know. Maybe paying Newton six figures to land there.

ALL major programs have some operations outside the rules of the National Communist Athletic Association. Some get caught. Some don't. As for me, as a fan, I don't care. Just play some football.

Made me laugh. Good one.

The the only cheaters that I'm aware of in recent history are the USC Trojans.

/haters gonna hate.

In other news, who the fark cares? Two colleges decide their friggin' sports "rivalry", an inside joke that matters only to those two colleges, is somehow important to the rest of us.

But in this case, Ervin said, the agency may not have fully understood just what it was getting into.

"They delved deep into a battle in which they don't know the turf," he said. "I don't think they have any clue how deep the division is between the two schools. They probably could have done better homework to understand the passion that the two fan bases have."

I'm sure they knew exactly what they were getting into. Anything that gets their company free publicity is going to get the nod. If this had been a year ago after Alabama won the BCS championship game, the roles in the commercial probably would have been reversed.

Isn't Old Navy the one who decided that?

How do you get an Auburn grad off your porch?

Pay him for the pizza.

I doubt SEC fans will give up Old Navy for very long. Where else are they going to get jorts and those T-shirts with the American flags on them? You might as well ask them to give up Applebee's.

2011-09-03 06:39:08 PM
Okay, so I looked up the commercial and the people calling for a boycott are retarded. He's not the delivery man, he's just some guy who showed up for the party and is dressed in enemy garb, and they say he's all right, because he brought pizza. Anyone with a third grade education can see that, but maybe that's too much to ask of Auburn students.

There's no need to be specific. If you're winning national championships you're cheating. It's that simple. But the Cam Newton thing isn't over, and I can't wait to point back to this thread in 5 years or less when they have to vacate the title.

That is, unless you expect me to believe that out of all the programs that are cheating the clean one with the totally honest recruits who turned down all the other schools offering money and other inducements and would never, ever consider taking money to play even though they're dirt poor was the one that won the national championship.

Right. Keep deluding yourself.

Exactly.

Fans get made fun of all the time. Remember this series of DirecTV ads (new window)? Know how many times I've been compared to the woman in that video? LOL who cares, they're just being silly.

I'm an Auburn grad and thought the commercial was funny. My only compliant was too much red in the ad.

Adolf Oliver Nipples, hundred dollar handshakes are alot different than paying six figures for someone to sign. There's no proof that ever happened at Auburn.

Poison, "maybe cheated" lol. I guess maybe you like to dress in drag. Must be true huh?

UNC_Samurai, you clearly don't know what happened with Eric Ramsey. They gave him money because he begged coaches to help support his wife and kid. Ramsey recorded all the conversations and tried blackmail Auburn through a Bama lawyer after he washed out of the NFL. Far cry from 'pay for play' and Auburn got punished severely, much more than USC, OSU, or Miami, eventhough those cases were much more egregious. Plus, I think you need to worry UNC than throwing stones at AU.

There's no difference, except when you want to justify cheating. And don't you worry, it'll show up. Auburn will have their Nevin Shapiro, they all do eventually.

They occasionally have some good stuff. This spring, they had their standard fit khakis done up in linen- cream in 100% linen, and a light brown in a cotton/linen blend. Great summer pants for when shorts aren't appropriate. And their ringer tees are good, and well worth the $5 they're often on sale for.

Old Navy's khakis fit much better than gap's, are still all cotton and put together okay, and are half the price. I wouldn't wear either for work khakis, but for casual wear, it's great.

They make basics at a great price. It's not all tacky tee shirts, in fact, I haven't really seen any of those the last few times I've been in there.

And then when they're done with the pizza, they go out and poison some trees. (Except the Auburn dude. He goes back to his farm. His highly profitable 1,000-acre farm.)

I don't like using this in the pejorative, but way to gay up a football thread, pal.

I wonder what the response would be if Old Navy had not shown the guy making an honest living selling pizzas? What if they instead showed the same guy on that same Tiger ATV in the same clothes doing donuts on the street and screamin WOOOOOOOO GO WAR Eagle at the top of his lungs? Would the Auburn faithful still be angry at Old Navy or would the be saying "Did YOU see that No Neck? I gotta get me one of them Tiger bodies for my ATV!"

And that's why Penn State hasn't been competing for the national championship for a long time. they get ranked on Joe's reputation. He doesn't cheat enough, which is why the blue-chip Pennsylvania recruits almost never go to Penn State anymore.

Well, that and the fact that they get recruited as a wide receiver, ride the pine behind lesser players for two years, and finally crack the starting lineup at strong safety, but that's a discussion for a different thread. This thread is about showing players the money, and even at Penn State I'm certain you'll find players getting paid something if you care to.

I love collge football fans blinded by loyalty. They're a fun bunch to have debates with-their school never does/did anything wrong. Live in Columbus and I get to have these same discussions with Suckeye fans.

LOL, you're just a hater of the Champs. Stop spouting off about unsubstantiated rumors. Show me evidence (other than a blog) Auburn did ANYTHING against the rules with Cam Newton. You can't and people have been digging for a year now and there's nothing there. On the other hand, investigators found OSU was cheating within a weekend.

Unlike you, I can provide references. Here is the NCAA prez clearing Auburn, "There was no evidence that money had changed hands and there was no evidence that Auburn University had anything to do with it." (new window)

No difference? So, you are saying embezzlement is the same as petty theft? Murder is the same as battery? Clearly there are degrees of severity. I believe most schools are giving out handshakes and perks; six-figure payouts not so much. It does occur, see Bama and USC, but I think its less frequent than you think.

Pete Thamel, what a reliable source. Yes, you are correct, the 'investigation' is still ongoing. The NCAA has moved into a Kenneth Starr-mode; they are snooping around for anything now. So, as they keeping digging for anything and everything, they may eventually find that the President of the University diddled his intern.

You sound scared.

I'm going to be Ric Romero and point out something here: If you're a fan of a major FBS program, your team is not as pure as the driven snow. If the NCAA wants to throw a fine-toothed comb on you, they'll find something. It all depends on how blatantly your program is cheating, how much they're willing to dig, and how embarrassing it is to the NCAA. The old NASCAR saying, "If you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'", completely applies here.

Wow. Just wow. You are a perfect example of a blind fan. Same thing USC fans stuck to until they had to vacate the title. As Auburn will eventually. And I don't hate them-just hate the "we're clean" approach that major schools take.

Oh please No fear here, I've been ecstatic that AU won the BCS.

Poison The blinds are on the people frothing at the mouth, wishing for something to happen to Auburn. I see it for what its... an assassination attempt that failed. If you took the time to read my posts, you would see I am not naive that CFB is ripe with improprieties of varying degrees.

Your USC comparison is not appropriate. The USC case had actual evidence from the start (cars, houses, money trails). You had guys admitting they paid Bush, just as in the OSU and Miami cases. I'm still waiting for actual evidence other than biased sports media spreading rumors for clicks and ratings. I gave you a legitimate reference from the President of NCAA and you still want to believe in rumor. Who is being naive and delusional?
