He's not kidding about the money thing. A guy in our flight didn't ID one. He was a bloody mess afterwards.

As a female, we either had to get our long hair up fast or get it chopped off. I got mine up fast, but they still shaved the backs of our necks to get the peachfuzz off. The guy who did haircuts for my flight resembled Prince, down to the Jeri Curls and being a shrimp. I am pretty sure he hated women. Every one of us who got their necks shaved came away looking like we'd been mauled and scratched by a rabid alleycat.

@ Cuminic8er - Pretty sure you mean the "mole" thing. And you are correct, pops like a geyser.

I just remember walking out of the barbershop in basic and rubbing my head. All the white guys looked befuddled going "wow, it's like sandpaper!". Meanwhile the black guys were rolling their eyes and laughing at us. Good times, good times.

That's pretty impressive when you do the maths. Figure he works 2,000 hours a year, for 50 years, gives him 100,000 hours to work with. So he'd need to give 15 buzz cuts each hour, every day, or 1 cut every 4 minutes.

I'm pretty sure he cut my hair back in 2001.

Maybe this guy actually cut my hair back in 1994. Too long ago to remember that kind of detail. I do remember how much Lackland sucks in July, though. Hotter than hell, and it rains once in a while. Doesn't cool it down, just creates a hell of a lot of steam.

I know, I love this. Let's assume a regular barber is $15 per cut, at 1.5 million served that's 22.5 million dollars. Now let's assume the military paid him $100,000 a year on average (high I know) that would be $5 million for his life. Hey! WTF, SOCIALISM saved us 17.5 million!

I'm pretty sure he cut my hair back in 1970.

I don't remember anything about an expense card or having to pay for the haircut. I also remember the Salvation Army distributing kits of soap & shaving stuff. That came in handy because when I showed up, pretty much all I had was the clothes I was wearing.

The most shocking part of this was that when I got my first haircut while inprocessing for basic training - I had to pay for the haircut. I don't know why that pissed me off, but it did...and still does 29 years later. $4.50 and NO I didn't tip.

Pretty much this. The US military hasn't actually defended American soil from attack since Pearl Harbor. Calling what they do "defending our country" is a little dishonest these days.

i, too, was d&b corps...went to basic 1/28/98. my best friend went thru about 14 months before i did and told me all the little secrets, like volunteer for an easy job...i buffed floors

i really don't know how people like you remember the flight #, etc, though.

some here have mentioned HEAT, JULY, & BLACK FLAG days at lackland.
i went thru in the late-winter/early-spring and we had some red flag days, pretty sure a couple of black flag days. f'ing south texas!

He didn't cut my hair, the guy next to him did (the first time). He was a funny guy, making jokes the whole time (none of us airmen thought anything was funny at that time). I think he may have cut my hair the second go around (we got three haircuts in Basic).

Those guys were ruthless....at Ft. Benning, anyway. It was like it was some sort of Olympic timed-event.

At any rate, I had a great-uncle that cut hair for incoming Army personnel. Can't remember which post it was. He had this one story, probably from the '60s, of this one kid that sat down in his chair ready for his cut. He had this really long, flowing blonde hair. My uncle, ever the comedian, asked the kid, "what'll it be?". The kid was kinda surprised. So, he explained that he combed it this certain way, flipped it that way, etc. etc. My uncle sat there and played around with his hair, talking through it, making sure he got it right.
When the kid was pleased, he took his cutters and ran it from the top of his neck, to his forehead right down the middle of his head. All of that blonde hair landed right in the kid's lap. My uncle said, "now, take that shiat back to the barracks and comb it however in the fark you want".

The Air force is stupid. They call their Drill Sergeants MTIs. You big buncha politically correct pussies. Watch me do 150 pushups and beat my chest between each one.

Pretty sure his reasoning is somewhere along those lines.

i have no idea who cut my hair, i just remember that even though i'd been keeping mine fairly short i let it grow out just so they'd have more to cut.

i do remember having to use my little debit card everywhere, though

But the FREE MARKET would have stepped in and created competing business for haircutters at a far better rate. It's just shaving heads, not a fancy perm... the $5 Best Cuts special would be fine. So that's $5 per cut, being paid out to local businesses, who in turn have to CREATE JOBS. (We call them the "Job Creators" for a reason, libruls!)

So right off the bat your islamosocialistic figures are wrong by almost fifteen million dollars! That's only $7.5 million... hardly much of a difference over 50 years, but it goes back to American pocketbooks, which will then in turn be used to buy Chinese electronics. But we created jobs! JOBS!
