That's quickly become one of my favourite images. If we could make it an animated gif where the eagle cries as the chair falls over, it would be perfect.

I created the original (well, the original of the chair with the crying eagle) so thank you! I had some good laughs when I saw that Yahoo News and Albany Union had picked up the image as well. There's a crying eagle animated gif out there I could use, but I doubt I'd have the time/ability to do the chair falling over.

Well props to you for making the original. This one and the 'North Korea is Best Korea' one always make me laugh.

Oh here we go, getting nitpicky over WHICH natural disaster caused which destruction! I swear, next you're going to get pissed off about me blaming the Washington DC Hurricane for killing my rosemary plant in California.

Which, incidentally, I do. Fark that hurricane. That plant never hurt nobody!

Only that one chair was made in the US. The table and the rest of the chairs were made in Japan, where their seismic regulations are higher.

Lazily, from the first Google link:
Nationwide, hurricanes annually account for an average of 17 deaths while flooding deaths average 147 per year.

It sounds like it is not at all unusual for people to die from a hurricane.

And Irene killed, what, maybe 50 if you count those deaths like the guy who had a heart attack...

2011-08-31 08:14:57 PM
New York's cleanup costs are going to be around $1 billion. The combined cost for the involved states are estimated to be $7 - $13 billion. On top of that, the states and federal government are broke, and FEMA has less than $1 billion to spend.

But you're right. We should be more like Texas, eliminate all state funding for emergency response, then be angry at the federal government for only supplying 26 forms of aid.

Way to hate your America, subtard.

Time Warner cable had an outage of internet service this past weekend in Southern California, and the radio news reporter said, "this outage was not related to the destruction caused by Hurricane Irene."

So, you are saying that Irene basically accounted for a HUGE percentage of hurricane/flooding deaths per year? A lot of people died. Winds stalled at/about landfall, and it made for some funny comments. Until a lot of people died.

I'm usually don't care too much about the snark of these storms, but roughly the same amount of people died in Andrew as Irene, and we don't make jokes about Andrew.

This is the most dick opinion to take and I knew it was coming before the storm hit. 42 deaths, billions in damage, flooding and destroyed homes in my hometown. Power outages for weeks+. Just because this wasn't Katrina doesn't mean it isn't damaging or sad. "It's not a big deal because worse happened before" is the most ridiculous childish attitude to take but its happened ad nauseum since the bad season a few years ago.

BREAKING NEWS: President Obama has just confirmed that the DC earthquake occurred on a rare and obscure fault-line, apparently known as "Bush's Fault". Obama also announced that the Secret Service and Maxine Waters continue an investigation of the quake's suspicious ties to the Tea Party. Conservatives however have proven that it was caused by the founding fathers rolling over in their graves.

2011-08-31 08:30:19 PM
I put a chair in my backyard and it did not fail. That proves it was inside job by Obama and his crew. An explosive residue was found near the chair that was "blown over" by something other then the wind. WAKE UP SHEEPLE!!!

Yeah, this is FARK and all that.
But living in Jersey, I can tell you as a fact that there is a lot of destruction and damage that has occurred as a result of Irene, and still a lot of road closures and detours that make getting around difficult and time-consuming.
But, the eagle with the lawn chair is pretty funny.

2011-08-31 08:33:00 PM

Marcus Aurelius: The lawn chair was brought down in the EARTHQUAKE, subby.

Negatory. It was an inside job - investigators found thermite by-products near where the chair's legs were shortly before it tipped over. The earthquake was just a convenient time to activate a long-dormant plot.

As you will. They are both huge government programs that used to be very, very good, but now do squat. But they DO provide jobs for people, even though they do nothing at all today.

Examples, since you ask:

FEMA: Last time FEMA was called to the plate in Katrina, they did virtually squat.

NASA: Can't get to the moon or even orbit a shuttle or toy rocket anymore.

I could go on, but those are the basics.
