God, give it a rest. The Blues Brothers died when Belushi died. Now you want to recast them? Brother please.

I'm not sure how to feel about this. Part of me wants to check it out, but another part of me is still butthurt over Blues Brothers 2000. I'm gonna say that the series will, likely, suck 4 fried chickens and a Coke.

Jake: Got any fried chicken?
Mrs. Murphy: Best damn chicken in the state.
Jake: Bring me four fried chickens and a Coke.

Jake: Four fried chickens and a Coke.

This is one of the concepts in this universe I cannot understand. Sure, the movie wasn't the greatest in the world. No argument there. Now stop and reflect on how many musical legends (or just great talents in music) appeared in that movie who are no longer with us. For many of them, it was perhaps their only recorded appearance, or their last recorded appearance.

Really, you should be thanking Dan Aykroyd (and, perhaps, Robert K. Weiss) the movie was made for that reason alone. Sure it doesn't live up to the first one, but as a historical document (dare I say "documentary"? Dare! Dare!) recording some of the finest musicians who ever lived (and Erykah Badu), it's priceless.

2011-08-31 06:59:47 PM
For everyone decrying the second film, are you honestly telling me that you can't find anything to enjoy about it? Not the music (which is almost as good as the first, IMO), not anything?

OK, casting and plotwise, it doesn't hold - but to say there is nothing good in it....well, then, you have no soul.

TV Exec: "Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locusts! THIS SHOW WASN'T MY FAULT, I SWEAR TO GOD!"

Second Sneakers reference I've seen on fark today. Love that movie.

This could be good. The movie is so dated. Ray Charles, Cab Calloway, Aretha Franklin are so old. An updated version with Justin Beiber, Katie Perry and Lil....

...I'm sorry, I just can't.

The only way I would watch a Blues Brothers television show is if they just didn't bother with a plot and had a 30-60 minute weekly show featuring various blues music. That's why the Blues Brothers were created in the first plays, expose more people to the music.

I think Blues Brothers 2000 gets a worse rap than it deserves. Sure, the plot was a bad rehash of the first one and it had a really annoying kid, but it had some great music and some amazing musicians all in the same place. Also, they could have easily done worse than John Goodman in filling Jake's shoes. Nobody can ever truly replace Belushi, but I think Goodman did alright all things considered.

...seems to me whenever something new comes out, everyone rejects it 'cuz they don't know what they're seeing. Then when a remake comes out, everyone rejects it 'cuz they "want" something new.

MAKE UP YOUR FREAKIN' MINDS, PEOPLE!

I'm trying to think if there are any other celebs that went from being as cool as Ackroyd was to being as big a loser as he is and I'm coming up blank.

Anyone care to help me out?

No...I admit Steve's not exactly a A-lister, and he panders to the lowest common denominator and makes pure drivel...

but he hasn't been reduced to being a pitchman for vodka and trying to turn his early successes into shiatty sequels and tv shows...he's not out shopping around a script for The Man With Two Brains 2 or desperately trying to get Chevy Chase to agree to a Three Amigos 2 where they play aging amigos and pass the Amigo torch on to 3 new hip young Amigos

It'd like Ackroyd has slowly morphed into Gil from the Simpsons

Both BB2k and this proposed TV series seem overly preoccupied with the idea of a son looking for his father. Really, what I would have done for the sequel movie was play much more to Elwood, all alone in the world now, wanting to be a father figure or mentor to someone, or at least a brother, but not really knowing how. The movie would put him thru a journey to discover which of his values support his quest, and which he must strive to change. With a lot of kicking music sequences interspersed. The plot they went with with the cop as Curtis' abandoned son was a stupid detour away from the dynamics that made the first movie so interesting.

Yeah, walk away from what is certain to be an abortion. Does anyone remember Delta House, the failed Animal House TV spin-off? And that was within two or three years of the movie.

The orginal Blues Brothers is one of the greatest movies ever. Don't soil it any more than Blues Brothers 2000 did.
