Not mad, as I won't watch either one. It does tend to show how petty he is, making sure to throw himself into the spotlight at the same time as a previously scheduled event.

This should get two responses.

GOP:"OMG! Obama is playing politics! He's bad!"

Liberals: "OMG! Obama is playing politics! I love him!"

I won't watch them either, but will instead read excerpts from each the following day, in what will be a much more effective and efficient use of my time. Not watching doesn't mean I won't get the information from somewhere else.

But that's everything he does, right?

GaryPDX: I think I'll watch the debates. Obama is only going to repackage the same old warmed over turds.

Even admitting for the sake of argument you're right, I think you'll find the same situation at the GOP debate.

Not from RON PAUL..lol. I want to see him kick ass and take names.

Hate to tell you champ, but Ron Paul isn't going to win the nomination. The other GOPers would nail him to the wall with his stance on drugs, if nothing else.

/He wants our children to be addicts!

Nothing exposes the GOP for what they are better than live TV shots of them booing economic recovery.

He's going to be on Talk of the Nation today if you care to tune-in. Not sure what time. They are starting the "politics round-up" and going from there.

2011-08-31 02:07:08 PM
OH NOES! If he interrupts this debate, there's only twelve billion GOP debates left!

2011-08-31 02:10:12 PM
I have no intention of watching either of them, but I do think it makes Obama look like he is being a dick. I also think that Obama is sorta shooting himself in the foot on this one. I can't imagine many liberals from his constituency would rather watch another meaningless useless job speech instead of watching the trainwreck that will be the GOP debate.

Is that the one where they do the Dance For Joy?

2011-08-31 02:15:13 PM
That seems kind of stupid. Does he actually expect people will switch away from the debate to listen to him? I mean, most people who will watch this debate will watch it on Fox anyway, and Fox never airs the President's addresses even when they aren't interrupting anything.

2011-08-31 02:17:30 PM
More media exposure for the candidates can only help his chances for reelection. I don't know what he's thinking.

If I were Boehner, I would just refuse to hold the joint session of Congress on that night. Let Obama come speak to an empty chamber, or, better yet, he can speak to Democrats alone.

On the other side, nearly half (45 percent) of GOP voters aren't even paying attention to their own primary process, according to the latest AP poll.

Considering the candidates why should they care?

Petty? Hardly. It's not like they're going to be covering anything of interest anyway.

Here's a preview of their next debate:

"I'm going to cut more taxes and slash more spending than any of these other yokels!"

"LIKE HELL YOU ARE! I'M going to cut more taxes and slash more spending than you!"

"NO WAY! I'M GOING TO DO ALL THAT AND I LOVE JESUS MORE THAN ANY OF YOU!"

"Guys! Can't we all just agree that we hate Obama?"

"A good point! OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA! HE'S THE ONE TO BLAME FOR ALL OF THIS! HE'S NOT LIKE US, AMIRITE?"

"AMEN TO THAT! WOO HOO! VOTE FOR US AND WE'LL GET THAT...WE'LL GIVE YOU YOUR COUNTRY BACK!"

2011-08-31 02:30:21 PM
lol now there's a presidential pimp-slap if I've ever seen one.

He might as well do shiat like this, it's not like the Republicans are doing anything but trying to destroy his presidency. At some point, he has to start fighting back.

Don't be ridiculous. Balki would run for the big chair and would choose a much better running mate, like VICI (there's nothing in the Constitution that says a robot--even if its likeness is that of a child--can't be Vice President).

Our trade relations with Mypos would be stronger than ever!

That would be nice, just speaking to Democrats alone. Then we wouldn't have to look at all of the damn whiny sourpusses in the audience.

If only someone would create a device that allowed for the storage and later retreival of televised programs. Then this problem could be solved.

He is literally the only one offering a different perspective. All the other candidates are for more of the same. RP 2012

It's a political move designed to highlight Republican obstructionism. If the candidates that are currently in Congress skip the joint session and attend the recitation of talking points (it won't be a debate), he can say they don't care about jobs.

Which is partially true, they care enough to stymie and hem and haw and bluster about creating jobs, except they don't actually do anything except blame the President.

Because nothing says strong leader elected on a MOAR JOBS OBAMA WHER? platform than being a baby and shutting down session just after coming back from vacation to avoid EXACTLY WHAT YOU'VE BEEN HARPING FOR...

Why would they be mad? The GOP can only lose by more people being familiar with the idiotic mouthplop of the likes of their leading candidates. They thrive on low-information voters.

They don't want you to hear what Perry says. They want you to see him fire a gun in front of the American flag and under a giant cross while an eagle soars overhead.

Same with the rest of them with the possible exception of the much maligned Ron Paul.

Hopefully he'll announce a new taskforce, a committee, or plans for a future speech. He seems to be shooting for single digit approval ratings.
