(Tri-State Neighbor)   Although she's become an A-list Hollywood star, Freida Pinto still isn't bankable in India. "India will never accept Freida Pinto unless she proves herself in Bollywood"   (cnngo.com) divider line 67

optional: Thing is, aren't soundtracks in most American films equally arbitrary and out-of-place? I mean, we don't notice them because we're so used to them, but they're actually similar in that they're totally unrealistic. While they can enhance a mood, most films would not be harmed by their removal.

Soundtracks are non-diegetic. Musical numbers are diegetic. Huge, huge difference. Musicals in general are quite an anomaly in film as they nearly always shift the tone from realistic to fantastic for the song, then back again. I can't think of any other formal film structure with that severe a tonal shift incorporated into it for anything other than shock value.

Given that they're exes, it sounds like he can't get Indian girls to keep liking him either.

I am married to an Indian woman. Your claim is false.

Now favorited.

We could start by telling him there are more Christians in India than in most European countries. Four times the population of Ireland, last I remember.

And there are better looking and better acting stars in Bollywood than Ms. Pinto.

homarjr: Slaves2Darkness: Slumdog Millonaire? Is that a movie? What is it about? No, I'm not kidding.

That's some big rock you must be hiding under to never have even heard of a Best Picture winner at the Oscars.

Meh. I thought the headline was about that Mexican unibrow chick.

And even if it were true, the smell of curry just makes me hungry.

sirrerun: You're really only A-List if your name appears at the top of the bill, and your pictures consistently open big.

She's nice and all, but she's nowhere near that status yet.
By those criteria, Adam Sandler is A-list, which says a lot about Hollywood.

Also, being in the tabloids helps, not hurts to get one to A-List status.

There's a reasonable argument that the Hollywood A-list is exactly one person long, and that person is Will Smith.

Saw Slumdog with my wife. While not the greatest movie ever done, it was entertainment and a decent story. Not boring--the greatest sin in movie making. Freida Pinto was cast in a not too demanding role but performed that role well. What I mostly remember is her face. She has the most beautiful face. It is like looking into the sun. The exact opposite of butterface. If you can look at a close up of Freida Pinto and not be moved (in your pants), you might need an appointment with Marcus Bachmann.

StopLurkListen: Frida Pinto also starred in Rise of the Planet of the Apes in my Pants.

FTFM
