(Tri-State Neighbor)   Although she's become an A-list Hollywood star, Freida Pinto still isn't bankable in India. "India will never accept Freida Pinto unless she proves herself in Bollywood"   (cnngo.com) divider line 67

The "A" here stands for Asian, which I suppose she technically is, in a geographic sense.

Thing is, aren't soundtracks in most American films equally arbitrary and out-of-place? I mean, we don't notice them because we're so used to them, but they're actually similar in that they're totally unrealistic. While they can enhance a mood, most films would not be harmed by their removal.

I disagree. Have you ever seen a movie before the soundtrack was added? It's a vastly different experience than seeing the completed film. There's a huge "thing" missing, like the movie has holes. Music helps set the mood, and can almost act like another "voice" in the narrative. Pick your favorite movie and then image it without music. Some, like, say, Moon, would be better than others. But it wouldn't be quite complete.

But those guys in Bollywood will throw a pretty girl (or group of the same) performing a dance sequence into seemingly any and every movie, regardless of whether it's out of place or not, whether it drives the story or not, whether the location or costume changes interrupt continuity or not.

Actually John Hughes, Scorsese, and Tarantino films the soundtracks are integral parts of the film.

Off the top of my head.

1. Saturday Night Fever
2. The Graduate
3. SuperFly6
4.2001
5.American Graffiti
6. Trainspotting
7. Gold Finger
8. The Good the Bad and the Ugly

Haven't seen it yet but girlfriend gave me a synopsis that doesn't really ruin it for you.

Kid goes on Indian version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire. It's supposed to be pretty damn hard if not impossible to beat. Turns out with every question he's asked, he had some prior event in his life that gives him the correct answer (except the last 1 or 2 questions). The show starts freaking out thinking he's cheating. That's pretty much all I can remember.

If this is completely wrong and my girlfriend lied to me, please feel free to correct it.

Atomic Spunk: A-list? Really?

A-list is a bit much but she has four titles to her credit and a lifetime box office gross of $294,543,433 with an average film take of $73,635,858.

Jennifer Aniston's average is only $53,864,995.

Now, you can argue that she didn't have much to do with those big totals but Hollywood only pays attention to the numbers.

That's pretty much it right there. It's like City of God in India instead of Rio. I'd say City of God is better tho

Came here to see Freida Pinto isn't A-list. Glad to see it was covered.

She's potential A-List, sure. She's not really on a list right now because she doesn't belong anywhere. She's beautiful, classy, stays out of the tabloids. She has all the ingredients, but she's not "on the radar," if you will. With a few more big movies under her belt, she'd be A-list.

That's some big rock you must be hiding under to never have even heard of a Best Picture winner at the Oscars.

You're really only A-List if your name appears at the top of the bill, and your pictures consistently open big.

She's nice and all, but she's nowhere near that status yet.
By those criteria, Adam Sandler is A-list, which says a lot about Hollywood.

Also, being in the tabloids helps, not hurts to get one to A-List status.

It's not a reason not to see a film, but being an Oscar winner is not necessarily a reason to see one either. Many people would point to Titanic or Crash as an example. I would point to or Chicago or Slumdog Millionaire.

If you get into nominees, there are lots of nominees that I thought were less than good.

That is why people still talk about the gritty reality of the opening scene, where a film like Saving Private Ryan is all but forgotten.

//Weinstein bought that Oscar, much like the writing one for GWH.
