Salt Lake City. They'll spend half a day tracking down the owner of a lost penny.

I'm sure the police will get the $10,000 in that backpack to its rightful owner.

Just go to the Salt Lake City PD to claim your backpack, with the $5,000 that was in there safe and sound.

Nah, it started at $50,000 and the official final number reported to the press is $20,000.

I built a lot of forts in my day, so it's kinda nice to see that kids are still doing that today. The only thing I'd have done different is I would have kept the money.

2011-08-31 02:06:18 AM
I wonder what the fort looked like?

I think I read this in a book.

If nobody claims the money in 30 days it gets returned to the boys. The boys spend some of the money trying to prove that the death of a wealthy industrialist was a hoax to cover up his sex change operation. Then some Mafia guys come knocking on the kids door demanding the money be returned to them and beat the crap out of them. They call the tranny to borrow the money to pay the Mafia guys. The kids never print the story.

Lot of Mormons here, pretty honest folks. Plus they help out anyone-I don't have a cell phone and joke that if I broke down within 10 minutes I'd be in the back of someone's minivan sipping hot chocolate while my tire gets changed by a random stranger.

The cops here are another story...

With a backpack of 20K, you'd have a DAMN good reason to build a fort around it.

And, I'm sure the cops will make sure all $500 is returned to it's rightful owner.

what are these kids doing outside?

It's dangerous out there, especially when you start tampering with the Mob's drug money.

You can build much better and safer forts in Minecraft.

My bro and I spent an entire day once (in 95 degree heat) dragging tree trunks and giant rocks across the common area out back so we could build a fort out of them. Then what happened? The subdivision hired a bulldozer the next day to demolish it and cart away all the materials.

Love that they were building a fort. I used to also build dams. Nothing would piss dad off like when I built one that actually worked and backed up great pools of stagnate water next to the house...once actually flooded a bottom by my house....dad last seen shaking head and heading off to "customize" the dam with a shovel. Miss you dad.

2011-08-31 07:31:59 AM
Actually if they cannot ind an owner or determine if it was used in a crime then the parents of the kids will have the money returned to them. The law can be a wonderful thing.

2011-08-31 07:40:59 AM
Kid: "Hey dad, look at this!"
Dad:"Wow, it has a lot of money in it, let me count it"
Dad counting...Huh, 30 grand...calls cops, "My kids found a backpack with $20,000 in it!"

2011-08-31 07:44:18 AM
Was it a He-Man Woman Haters fort? Come on media, cover the important stuff once in awhile!

Two teens? Building a fort? And the referree throws the bullshiat flag. These two kids were trying to make a place to take girls since their parents are too conservative to allow them in the house.

Unless the police can *tie* it to a drug transaction and it goes into forfeiture.

Yep. I love the desperate bit at the end where they're calling every agency they can find in the hopes that maybe they can connect it to a crime.
