// I will scream this at komo 4 news building today as I get on the bus

A short bus, no doubt.

Rapmaster2000: Known for being edgy, previous designs have mocked environmentalists and hippies.

Nobody mocks those guys. Damn, this shiat is edgy. Maybe in ten years they can make fun of hipsters. That'll blow people's minds!

I made fun of hipsters before it was cool, you've probably never heard about it

bravian: FTFA "The shirt in no way, shape or form was intended to be racist, or bigotry and anything along those lines," said Don Bell, the festival T-Shirt creator.

If that's the case then why did you make a shirt that makes you look like a racist and a bigot?

Why do you make statements that make you look like an idiot?

Never heard of Ray Stevens so all I got was an image of Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder morphed together.

Has anyone pointed out the similarity of this muscular right-wing American to the gay porn of Tom of Finland?

I mean, I'm offended, but not by the subject matter. I'm offended that the target audience of this kind of shirt are severely closeted gay men that feel forced to live a life as a rampaging, macho heterosexual, with their bulging muscles taut and glistening, pumping with patriotic... fervor ... thrusting their manliness the direction of Osama's yielding ... mouth ... lips slightly parted ... fighting back, resisting but not too hard ... too hard ... uhm ... uh ...

He's almost like that. But, he's white and he has a southern twang to his voice.

get a life.

Not funny, but not offensive. And since I can't come up with any coherent argument or excuse as to why you should have such a thing, I'm gonna go ahead and scream RACISM so that instead of debating me on merits I don't have, you're forced on the defensive.

/I win!

Am I doing it right, Libs?

I've heard of him, but I missed the pic and got him mixed up with Cat Stephens.
but it wouldn't make sense to put Cat Stephens on that shirt, he's already proved he can get out of the water.

FTA: A Facebook page for the festival is lighting up with comments for and against the shirts, with accusations of racism, hatred and poor taste.

get this. lots of people say things on the internet without actually having any facts to back them up.

I checked the Universal Declaration of Human Rights ( http://www.un.org/en/documents/udhr/ ) and "freedom from being offended" was not listed for some reason.

It must have been a typo.

"I don't like the looks of it," said Aberdeen resident Sharon Gabryshak. "If he wasn't on the front, it would be better." Another resident, Jeanne Ward, printed several T-shirts that say, "My Hoquiam is a Hate Free Zone."

Would prefer if the article gave their rationale as to disliking this or if the second resident made the shirt as a reaction to this one due to supposed hate; this is implied, but not seeing anything to confirm. I don't like the looks of it either, but because I don't much get the joke and the art is meh. I mean, "Osama Bin Loggin'"? Are you suggesting Osama Bin Laden was a logger by trade or has associations with the logging industry? This would like Bic making an "Osama Pen Laden" joke or who-knows-why.

I initially read that as "Shirt depicts Osama bin Laden tied to a hog held by a muscular American."

Which would work just as well.

How is this racist? It's not like OBL is tied to a fat hog with ropes of bacon. Also, it's obviously not attacking muslims or arabs in general, just the one douche bag. If you think that OBL is representative of all muslims or arabs, then maybe you're the racist.

2011-08-30 08:30:47 PM
Hmm. I wouldn't care about a shirt that makes fun of John Wayne Gacy or John Allen Muhammad either. I guess that makes me a bigot.

And yet, I'm OK with this.

So, I decided I was gonna find out if this shirt was actually offensive to people of Middle Eastern descent.
I ask this guy, "Does this shirt offend you?"
And he was all like "I would be more offended if you didn't pay for that Slurpee after you've already drunk half of it."
So, there you go.

Just trying to digest this. If your tshirt has a picture of a dead coward that killed 1000's of innocent American people, you're a racist. If you disagree with the Presidents policies you're a racist. If you say the word monkey, chimp or ape, you're a racist. Ofcourse, being a conservative, you're a racist. Is there a list somewhere? I don't want to miss anything.

1: So, if an offensive image is on the back of a shirt it is no longer offensive. Good to know there Sharon.

2: Your town is a "hate free zone". Why does that statement make me want to ........... errr I'll be nice. What does she think we should have done? Find Bin Laden and give him a great big hug? Should we have sent him flowers? I wonder if she finds offence with Banjo Playing Hitler as well? DIAF Jeanne, the world isn't a nice place no matter how much you want it to be.

The Spoony Bard: Who are we worried about offending exactly?

Gay loggers I imagine. Maybe bearded ladies with their hair up in towels.

I read that as Obama for some reason. I thought this would turn into a civil discussion regarding Obama's financial stimulus for the logging industry.

The only way it could be gayer is if it were printed on a pink sleeveless tee :/

Dear Offended People,

While I fully support the flying of US military helicopters (including a stealth helicopter, surprise!) deep into Pakistan so as to literally land them in Osama bin Laden's backyard, chase him into his own bedroom, shoot him right in the farkin' head followed by ransacking the place for sweet, sweet intel and really sick porn and then bundling his corpse off to dump it in the middle of the ocean, as a man of the cloth I must agree that the T-Shirts in question made you sad, and that's a bad thing.

Love,

The Right Reverend Mykeru, Anti-Pope of Washington, DC.

P.S.

Q. What does Osama bin Laden have at the bottom of the ocean that he also had in life?

A. Crabs

The Spoony Bard: Who are we worried about offending exactly?

The glass hearts. They have to impose every ounce of their daily butthurt upon us, or else they just might realize they are meaningless and live only to judge others because of their own insecurities.

That's the root of it. At the end of the day you're hearing about this because they were told to tell you how offensive it was, even though it's u unexplainable.

2011-08-30 09:34:52 PM
I guess my outrage meter is on the fritz.
Just because something is unnecessary doesn't mean it's offensive.
Have fun with the T-shirt sale, folks.

2011-08-30 09:50:40 PM
How is this shirt racist?

Now, if people were offended because it looks like a still from shiatty flash movie that someone would have thrown together in 2001, I'd be okay with that.

Or people could be offended because "Osama bin Loggin'" doesn't actually mean ANYTHING in this context. It's not as if he is actually doing any logging in the picture, and even if he was, it's a stupid joke that has been made over and over for a decade now. I would be in agreement with them.

If people were offended because this is nothing but an incredibly lame attempt to be edgy and relevant when it is, in fact, the complete opposite of both of those things, I could get where they were coming from.

Racist? No. Stupid? Yes.
