Just mount it on /dev/zero - you'll find it contains a million, billion, gajillion TB.

Not bad, subby. Not bad....

Wait, subby, is that TIFF file or high compressed jpeg of my Mom?

"This could be a 2 TB flash drive." Imagine... because you're not gonna actually see one in that article or vid.

It may hold that much info, but there's no way in HELL I'd ever trust it with that much. Flash drives are for moving files back and forth between more permanent storage solutions. And even then, you'd better have stuff backed up a few redundancies over.

I've just been burned one too many times, I guess.

I don't think anyone wants that high a resolution pic of my mom.

This would be awesome for Superfetch

Unless it's so pricey that I'd be better off buying that SSD I was looking at

I can only guess the same. I've never had trouble with a flash drive. I've had quite a few magnetic failures. And I was under the assumption solid state tech was much more failure-resistant than the old, clockwork, spinning records, because there's no moving parts. Huh.

Then again the only thing I'm getting from the article is "Service unavailable", so maybe they're trying out the new flash drives for us :p

What do you want to bet it has a micro SD slot for expansion of up to 2TB*

But seriously, would this thing take a little too long to boot up to be a nice jump drive?

Yeah, magnetic/mechanical stuff fails all the damn time, never had a flash drive crap out on me, not counting me physically breaking them. And even then since they're solid state I've been able to recover stuff from a couple. Once I had to physically hold the thing together for the contacts to touch, but hey, it worked.

DigitalCoffee: Can you imagine how long it would take Windows to format that thing?

Flash storage on USB 3.0? A lot faster than you seem to think. Plus it's a flash drive, why are you reformatting it?

I've had a few thumb drives go through the washer. Never lost a one of them that way. Hell, I've never lost a thumb drive. Ever. (Okay, one got knocked under the couch by the cat, but it still worked after I found it a year later.)

The amount of genetic information in one individuals genome is about a gigabyte uncompressed. The stuff that makes us individuals sums up to about 10 Megabytes.

Old enough to know better: Hell I won't even buy a HD that big for fear of the *whirrrr* *click click* sound.

I have 17 x 2TB drives.

I've had one go bad over 6 months ago, and it was a new one (within the usual 3 months break-in period)... exchanged it, new one, no problem.

I've had my 32GB jump drive go bad on me a few months ago.

I think that I recall one other that became defective. Possibly a non-brand name cheap China type.

I found out that the 32GB that died is a fairly common event with this model. (Corsair voyager GTR). It's an amazingly fast flash drive and I enjoyed it, but when it died, I found that the way it's built kinda sucks... just a chip board encased in the rubber shell, no solid casing whatsoever. I got the replacement (under warranty), but I am not risking it in my pockets again (due to the stupidly cheap build). I got another with the retractable port. I really miss the speed of the Corsair, but it's been solid so far.

I'm still using a 512MB for work (to transfer files back and forth) since a good 4 years. I'm talking dozens of write/read per day, and it's still working great.

I have over a dozen flash drives from all brands and models, and the big difference has always been the speed.

DigitalCoffee: Can you imagine how long it would take Windows to format that thing?

USB 3.0 is as oversold as its predecessors, it won't matter what operating system it's using. It'll still take days to format.

I have yet to find a "permanent storage solution" for data short of engraving it on gold tablets, and even then odds are some jerk is gonna melt them down.

If I were the manufacturers I'd develop a 2TB/2TB RAID1 USB ....

Dadoo: It'll still take days to format.

You don't need to do a full format. A quick format will do, which takes less than a minute under Windows. Even BSD only takes a couple of minutes when writing super-blocks for a FFS/UFS slice that takes the whole drive.

It offers a minimum of 16 GB and a maximum of 2 TB.

So what they actually showed off is a 16 GB flash drive that they think will scale up to 2 TB...someday.

/nothing to see here

I bought two of the 4gb corsairs when they first came out and had oodles (no really it was allot, so many that I can't remember how many) of replacements. After about the umpteenth failure, I decided that the design/company sucks ass and refuse to buy their flash drives.

THanks. I figured that it was relatively small, but I didn't know.

Pretty impressive data storage, frankly - incredibly efficient.
