If you can afford/want an Escalade, you don't care about how much gas it uses. These people are sociopaths.

Oh and the Veyron owners care? Although I somehow doubt that it would be their daily car.

Why even bother making the list if you're going to fill it with super cars and utility vans? A Veyron uses lots of fuel - shocking.

Not even Ric Romero is surprised by this.

The car that really shocked me by it's gas mileage is the SmartCar. Honestly, how does an Accord get better gas mileage that than little POS?

did i miss the escalde on the list?

Half of those are supercars, which you expect to have crap mileage. The other half are trucks and vans, which you expect to have crap mileage. List is ?????

I guess it's not that bad, after all.

How the fark do people moving vans count?

Standard compact car: Holds 5 (uncomfortably) | 35 mpg
People Moving Van: Holds 10 to 11 (somewhat uncomfortably) | 16 mpg

Works out to be about even.

Most people that own escalades live in the projects and rely on food stamps, plus it's not on the list, so it must be pretty efficient.

wgtccdn.wegotthiscovered.netdna-cdn.com

Average semi goes 150,000 miles a year.
Average semi mpg is 5-7 mpg.
Annual fuel consumption is 25,000 gallons *per truck,* per year.
1.3 million trucks on the US roads x 25,000 gallons per year = thirty-two billion, five hundred million gallons consumed a year, just for semi trucks.

Pressurized turbo Barron. 40 gallons of 100LL av gas an hour at $5.35 a gallon current price.

Chevrolet Express G2500 - Not really fair, since it seats something like a dozen people. Even at 11 miles per gallon, thats still much better than those people riding 2-per-car at 30mpg.

Bugatti Veyron, Lexus LFA Sure, and why don't you list NASCARs too? What's the point of this list if it doesn't stick to daily drivers?

GMC Savana 3500 Again, special use vehicle. Do you have a better plan for large cargo mobility?

Other than that, the list is basically just a bunch of SUVs and Quad-cab Pickups

2011-08-29 09:31:32 AM
Somehow I doubt the Veyron and Bentley owners care about their MPGs. (Fun fact: a Veyron at full throttle will consume an entire tank of gasoline in 12 minutes.)

And as mentioned above, an 11-person van will do OK in terms of MPG per person.

The real horrorshows of the list are the pick-up trucks. I see lots of these on the road every day, stuck in commuter traffic, with only the driver inside. If you have a big pick-up truck, and you're not some kind of construction worker, you've failed at life. Sorry.

Sociopath here...

I got one for my wife a few years ago. She loves it. It sucks on mileage, but she loves it. Also, she doesn't really know how to operate a vehicle efficiently so she ends up getting less mileage than what it is rated. But, did I mention that she loves it.

When she's done with this one, I'll get her another one.

/Blow it out your ass.

So what? They're paying the premium for the truck, the low mileage, etc. What business is it of mine or yours?

I'm also glad that you've got such insight into their lives that you can make this statement.

Worthless list, the author spent maybe a total of 3 minutes compiling it... Supercars get horrible gas mileage, shocker there. The people driving them don't care, and they don't put on enough miles to make a difference.

And full size vans? Again, the people buying them don't really care, as they are bought for their utility. They are the cheapest way to haul a bunch of people or equipment around. A utility van gets better gallons/mile/person than a hybrid....

People who own and drive Escalades (aka the "Cheneymobile") don't care about gas or how much it costs.

In fact, the types who own Escalades tend to actually get off on knowing how many gallons it guzzles. IT makes them feel like they're rich and helping to destroy the planet as fast as possible.

I disagree. I get about 20 mpg highway in my truck, and I use it as a truck at least 3 times a week, plus I'm tall with balky knees so many cars are uncomfortable to me. I can't afford to had a beater and a regular driver, so I'm pretty pleased with the truck as a daily driver.

MrSteve007: They missed one

I bet that's not so sinister when you consider the amount of weight it hauls and think about how many fuel efficient vehicles would be needed to haul the same amount. Of course trains would win out in any competition.

It's not just about miles per gallon, it's about work done for that gas. A driver getting 30mpg and carpooling is doing better than the driver getting 38 and going solo.

2011-08-29 09:43:28 AM
Apart from a pickup and a couple of SUVs that people do drive around with the only passenger being their "snowflake" most of these vehicles are generally driven for utility or fun. You generally don't drive a sports car or super car to work every day, you take your Audi or whatever. Unless you're too rich to care; then there is a big-arse luxury car on the list for you.

You may drive your 16 passenger van to work every day, but you're probably driving it for work too. I have only ever been in them when they were used by community groups or schools to transport lots of people.

Lists like this should really be weighted by estimating the number of vehicles on the road, carrying 1-2 adults, and not performing a work function like hauling cargo or a trailer.

U.S. Gasoline consumption is about 380 million gallons per day. Which is around 138 billion gallons a year unless my math is off. Certainly a large percentage is used in transports.

2011-08-29 09:44:30 AM
I used to be concerned about fuel efficiency for the environment's sake. Then I realized we absolutely will not come off of gas powered cars as long as we have oil. So fark it, if you want us off oil burn as much gas as you can afford. Sooner we are through it the sooner we can move on.

Drive the Dodge Ram in TFA. Average about 14-15 mpg. Bought it primarily for carting my dogs around without furring up the cabin, while still having room for more folks. I work from home nowadays, so it gets driven 2-3 times a week.
Mine was prettier than the one in TFA. It's got clear coat cancer now. Prolly throw a coat of paint on it soon as I can afford it.

ronaprhys: So what? They're paying the premium for the truck, the low mileage, etc. What business is it of mine or yours?

Isn't funny, the same people who like to say 'I've got mine, fark you' or 'Don't tread one me,' when it comes to being massive consumers of gasoline are also the same people who don't realize that the majority of our foreign wars are over protecting the steady supply of oil.

Hell, even the Pentagon realizes it's insane to run a war machine that's addicted to fossil fuels, so they're mandating that 20% of their entire energy use is from renewable resources by 2020.

What business is it of mine? I don't like being a contributor to causing a war. I am, but I try to minimize my impact on our nation's insatiable requirement for oil. The people who say 'fark you, I can pay for gasoline for my truck' don't fully realize that isn't all society has to pay for.

Well no shiat the Bugatti uses a shiatload of gas, it's a street legal race car for fark's sake. Next you're going to tell me Formula One cars or the cars NASCAR uses aren't the most efficient either, right?!

Hey, if you can afford it, go for it. The quicker we get rid of fossil fuels the quicker we will finally move on to some serious alternatives. Sometimes I just buy a gallon of gas and set it on fire. For the planet.

2011-08-29 09:53:28 AM
They should include the carbon footprint that it cost to manufacture the vehicle in the first place and consider it when saying which vehicles are the worst for the environment.

Those who expouse the volt and prius as being the most environmental friendly would be shocked.
