Well they did just fight a full-scale battle for control of Tripoli which isn't quite over, of course there's going to be water shortages in the city.

Hopefully they'll be able to get things under control soon enough. The NTC has proven capable of winning the war, winning the peace is another matter entirely.

Libya has had more than enough money for more than enough time to develop sophisticated infrastructure for water location, desalinization and distribution for every single citizen. The reason it hasn't happened is because they've been living under a dictator who only cared about enriching his personal empire.

They'd have to be stupid Californians with no knowledge of basic California geography.

The California deserts are east of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, far inland on the Arizona and Nevada borders. The rest of the state ranges from mountain to hill to coastal, with marshes and rivers and lakes and snow.

If Bush were still in office this would be played out as a major humanitarian crisis and the whole country would be said to be in chaos, and it would of course, be all his fault for helping remove the dictator in question.

But since this is Obama, we're not hearing any of that.

To be fair, The Great Manmade river seems to more or less qualify as a giant infrastructure project that strove to supply Libyans all over Libya with water.

They need to stop whining and improvise. When I was in Afghanistan we used bottled water to wash our trucks, take showers in, and water our lawn. If it's good enough for the Army why isn't it good enough for the Libyans? Yeah, pouring an entire pallet of bottled water into buckets takes work, but the desert is no place for laziness.

Mr. Titanium: Los Angeles is a freaking desert. That's why they have to steal water from several other states.

Myth

There are many rivers and lakes in Southern California. Yes, water was diverted to turn the city into a garden and to provide for agriculture, however before that only a portion of the north eastern Los Angeles county was desert:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f5/Mojave-sonoran_des e rts.png

Most of the desert is far east inland, near the Nevada and Arizona borders. The rest of the county (most of it) is not desert. Now that there are so many people, more water is diverted, but how do you think other large cities get their water? Do you think New York City has enough natural fresh water on hand to support 8 million people in that packed square mileage? No, they have aqueducts and water supply pipes just like Los Angeles.

http://hiddenlosangeles.com/imagery-the-celery-of-venice/

There is a reason there are so many people who want to live in Southern California: the weather is perfect, approximately mid-70s year round with moderate amounts of rainfall. Diverting drinking and plant water does not create such an environment. It is natural. If you turned off California's water tomorrow, some of the artificial greenery (palm trees) would die, but much of it would still be there next year.

The reason there are so many people in LA county is because of the immigrants. If you removed all the hispanic immigrants and the last 3 generations of their offspring, we'd be a flyover region compared to NY.

So, there are no immigrants in NYC?

There's a reason the Statue of Liberty is in NY and not San Pedro.

Yeah, it would seem a little disingenuous, considering San Pedro is home to a huge immigration prison.
