TFA skews more recent than "vintage," but teenage Elizabeth Taylor and Natalie Wood would merit consideration, and I think young Sal Mineo and Mickey Rooney would have been fun to hang around with.

/admittedly, three of four dead now; one valiantly hanging on...

fark Ferris Bueller.

I have never understood why people like that character so much. A smarmy, smug, know-it-all who never has to work hard at anything and has everything work out perfectly for him whether he deserves it or not. I wanted to slug him in the mouth the entire movie.

Oh, he's very popular, Ed. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wasteoids, dweebies, dickheads - they all adore him. They think he's a righteous dude.
Mr. Rooney: That is why I need to show these kids that the example he sets is a first-class ticket to nowhere!

Came here to say this. The guy spends the entire film being an ass to his "friends".

There's a theory out there that the whole movie takes place in Cameron's mind. Kinda neat to think about, even if given no credence in the film.

Also, Marty McFly would've been cool as would Ferris Bueler. The rest, not so much, unless I could've gotten Hermoine or however you spell her name drunk at a party.

Never could understand the fascination people have with Ferris Bueller and the movie. Any guy who skips school with a hot car and a hot gal...then goes to a art museum....would have got his ass kicked by the student body when he returned. No one skips school to spend any time at an art museum.....

I don't think you're intended to watch that film and relate to or even "admire" Ferris in any tangible way. He's more an obnoxious vehicle to serve the real purpose of that film; escapism for bored teens wondering what "adult" life can really be like, hence the art museum, upscale restaurant, the fact Cameron conveniently had access to a "hot car" and just any old wheels, etc...

Plus, what kind of high school did you go to? In mine, rolling joints and maybe going to the beach while playing hookey was old hack; taking a hot girl to "the city" would be seen as way cooler.

I don't hate on Ferris but I do recognize that he is running a giant scam on everyone in that whole movie. To Ferris you aren't his "friend" you are a dupe to be exploited for his own benefit. At no point do you see him give back or do anything for his "friends". He can run his scams and I don't care but he'd make a terrible friend.

/am I doing it right?

No.

...actually, I take that back. I'd like Edward to live in my neighborhood so I could sneak in one morning and stake him

/do stakes work on Twilight vamps?
//doesn't matter. As Buffy says, You'd be surprised how many things that'll kill.

The only thing that can hurt a Twilight vampire is feelings.

acad1228: I pretty much did. And in the same area where that movie was filmed.

Tulsa? Hope you've got an extra switchblade or two on you.

/your class was probably more like this (^)

Willow, Cordelia, Anya, Tara, Faith, Kendra, Dawn, Darla, Lyla, Fred, Zoe, Inara, Kayle, Saffron?, Echo, Sierra, ect. ect. Joss has a good eye for the women.

What no Drusilla? Am I the only one that finds her really attractive in a batshiat-crazy way? (Also it's Lilah and Kaylee :P)

drunk_bouncnbaloruber: Steven Hyde would have been cool to hang out with. And no matter how hot Mila Kunis is, Jackie Burnhart would have been annoying as fark to spend time with.

Fun fact, I have a friend that I've known since Grade 7 who I swear is almost a carbon copy of Jackie (shrill voice included) and I've never found it that bad. However her moving a couple provinces away and only seeing her a few times a year seems to have improved our friendship....

Dhusk: fark Ferris Bueller.

I have never understood why people like that character so much. A smarmy, smug, know-it-all who never has to work hard at anything and has everything work out perfectly for him whether he deserves it or not. I wanted to slug him in the mouth the entire movie.

He's a geek fantasy figure...the guy who's a definite geek, but who's beloved by everyone, and things always go his way. By all rights he should be an outcast, and should have been punched in the mouth long ago, but he has the ineffable qualities of charm and daring that just make things work. It's the sort of things high-school geeks dream about.

Me too on both counts.

James was a just a few years older than me at the time and that show turned out to be a great heads-up for the next few years.

Killer Cars:
I don't think you're intended to watch that film and relate to or even "admire" Ferris in any tangible way. He's more an obnoxious vehicle to serve the real purpose of that film; escapism for bored teens wondering what "adult" life can really be like, hence the art museum, upscale restaurant, the fact Cameron conveniently had access to a "hot car" and just any old wheels, etc....

Or MAYBE it's the other way around. I guess I haven't thought about FB as much as other farkers, but I always put myself in his shoes, wishing I was Ferris. Not to say he's a good person, but for selfish reasons.

Who wouldn't want to always get their way, always talk their way out of something, and always get the girl? Even if just for a day?

/I like the adult life/escapism spin...good point

I have noticed a rather unique phenomenon isolated to young women attending high school that I find rather fascinating. My age continually advances, yet they seem to remain the same.
