jigger: The earthquake happened at about 2:30 pm on a Tuesday.

WTF is the president doing golfing at this time?

'Golf' is as much a passtime as it is a way to informally meet with advisers and politicians, among other people or leaders. You'd be surprised how much business and politics are done on a golf course.

Yeah, I'm sure he would, because ol' Texas cowboy Bush ne'er did nuthin' wrong!'

SeismicJizzer: Nabb1: I believe Mr. President has issued a press release that his top science advisers have pinned the origin of the quake to a geological formation known as Bush's Fault.

WTF Indeed: Obama wanted a 3.4, but the GOP wanted a 5.9 so he compromised.

I LIKE!!!

Wow, check out his tagline:

Chief Political Columnist for Politico: Sometimes in error, but never in doubt.

What stupid thing to say. If you know that you error, you should frequently be in doubt. Then check, re-check, and triple-check your work. That's just good decision making.

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

Fun fact!

Because the Richter scale is logarithmic, our 5.8 quake was literally 1/1585th as strong as the 9.0 in Japan.

It's nice that for us it's just an entertaining event.

Degenerate Monkey: no-name political nobody

Roger Simon is a turd, but he's not a nobody. He is the chief political writer for Politico, a website designed to turn everything into a horserace, drudgify political reporting further and generally win the news cycle by finding the outrage of the day.

Just because you haven't heard of the toxic, legless twat doesn't mean he 's not influential

Other national monuments:

* Martin Luther King is fine.
* The Smithsonian Institute is a bit cracked, but not seriously.
* Ronald Reagan wasn't injured but evacuated some gas.

palelizard: Splinshints: lockers: Splinshints: lockers: This is Obama's Katrina.

That's next week.

No, that will be Obama's bay of pigs.

That's Libya.

The problem here is that Fartbongo is already such an epic failure that he's completely exhausted all historical comparisons. We need to start inventing new words to explain how terrible a president he truly is.

I like "telebotanicrat", as he is phoning in his leadership from the green. Also, the completely new word "gronlit", which I am defining as "a unit of measure regarding failure approximately equal in measure to the first 100 days of the first term of Barack Obama's Presidency", and the corollary "gronlitard", a person who performs an act of such failure equal or greater to one gronlit. For larger amounts of failure, we'll use the metric prefix system, so a hectogronlitard is someone who has performed an act or acts sufficient to total 100 gronlits.

We've still got commercial failures:

This is Obama's Zune.
This is Obama's New Coke.
This is Obama's Crystal Pepsi.
This is Obama's Jingle All the Way.

fark you asshole.

I never understood the small-government loons hate for the ACLU. This is a group who's whole purpose is to limit government power. Shouldn't they be contributing members?

The ACLU feels that the 2nd Amendment doesn't really count (they cop out by calling it a "collective" right - funny I though were all about individual rights), and their stance on the 9th and 10th isn't much to brag about either.

It's always the 2nd Amendment with you farkheads. You didn't seem to care when Bush made the 4th Amendment non existent.

22 seconds to recess

"Democratic Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware presided over a 22-second technical session in a conference room in Postal Square, a building next to Union Station and two blocks northeast of the Capitol."

The Senate can move really fastwhen it wants to--the extraordinary session was needed because, although most of the Senators are out of town, the Senate was not formally recessed.

Democratic Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware presided over a 22-second technical session in a conference room in Postal Square, a building next to Union Station and two blocks northeast of the Capitol.

Full text of that session, as imagined by Brantgoose:

Senator Coons: Do I have a motion to recess?
Senator X: Yes.
Senator Coons: Second that?
Senator Y: Yes.
Senator Coons: I declare the Senate recessed. See yah all later.
