(ESPN)   Jamal Lewis said he would break the single-game rushing record against the Cleveland Browns this week and did just that on Sunday. Next up: Walking on water   (sports.espn.go.com) divider line 93

To begin, I intend to gloat over the Panthers beating the Bucs in a rather ugly game. ::gloats::
The Panthers didn't have the best defense overall, but they definately had the best defensive line today.

Now that I'm done, that was one hell of a performance. 22 teams didn't even have a 100 yard rusher today, and he runs for nearly 300. Crazy stuff, and it's only the 2nd week of the season

Go Panthers!

/Saints fan

I call BS. Players say sh*t like this all the time and it amounts to nothing. this time it happened to pan out.

/not detracting from the actual performance

Jamal can thank an inept Browns offsense for their "3-and-out-fest", and a non-existant "couldn't-tackle-my-grandmother" defense. Even still, backing up one's wild boasts is an impressive feat.

/Huge Browns fan

This is like the time I went to the horses and told my wife, "See this hundred? I'm going to turn this in to multiple one-hundreds." I came back with 4 grand. Wife confiscated most of it. Biatch.

To supplement today's MiniBlog, I'd like to send an official Fark You to Cedrick Wilson for costing me $69 with his failure to get his ass to the ground. I had the Niners to win outright with the 10/13 money line. Be glad I'm not Italian, Ced.

/hopes the HTML works.

somewhat unfortunately, the "couldnt tackle my grandmother defense" was really only on 4 runs. 4 carries for 216 yards, leaves about 80 yards on 25 carries, an average day. but getting back to grandmothers, I think mine could have run through a couple of those holes on the 4 runs that killed 'em.

at least the offense finally threw the ball down field some this week, though the play calling still sucks. but I think Holcomb carries a little more of the blame this week than he did last week.

/damn browns.

2003-09-15 07:16:57 AM
I caught the end of the game, and it was too bad he didn't get to 300.
I did get to see a female sports reporter sniffing Jamal's jersy after the game. Apparently they were not going to wash it before sending it to Canton.

In Soviet Rushing the records break you.

Sign #1 that maybe it's gettin' close to bedtime for me:

I laughed at MarvinJ's post.

I am a Browns fan who was at the game yesterday in Baltimore. There would just be huge holes and he would find them. Other than Lewis, the Browns defense actually didn't do too badly...

Hard day to sit in enemy territory...

2003-09-15 07:41:44 AM
The weirdest thing about yesterday was that the most exciting game to watch was the Bengals game....

/they lost of course

2003-09-15 07:53:36 AM
Speaking of the Browns, I plan on taking them to the superbowl any minute now.

2003-09-15 07:54:21 AM
beeferoni Respectfully, I just don't think you can say "other than the greatest single rushing performance in the history of football, the Browns D was stout!" I mean, did the Ravens even try anything other than running Lewis up the gut?

Of course, I'm a Steeler fan, so I got to see my team get dominated in all facets of the game for three quarters.

Proud to live in Ohio with the "Bungles" and the "Clowns"

Being a Chiefs fan in Pittsburgh, I am quite happy today. I also won two blocks in one of the office pools. A good start to the week.

2003-09-15 08:31:05 AM
Isn't Jamal arab for 'camel'?

Can someone verify this?

2003-09-15 08:36:45 AM
beeferoni

thats what I was saying... take away those 4 runs (82, 60-something and two others over 30) and he has an average at best day. Granted, two of those four made the difference in the game, but the D stuffed 26 of 30 carries, really. now if they could just get the ball in the endzone on offense...

oh, and please please please tell me that you at least fired one or two shots at that bastard's owners suite. PLEASE!

2003-09-15 08:41:45 AM
And in other news, the home team has NEVER won at Lincoln Financial Field. Not even the exhibition games or Temple football (against 1-AA Villanova).

If the Eagles lose to Buffalo in 2 weeks, they probably won't even bother to fly home. I'm guessing WIP callers started demanding Andy Reid's head on a platter by halftime yesterday.

2003-09-15 08:48:49 AM
go broncos

2003-09-15 08:54:29 AM
I was at the game, Jamal is your father

2003-09-15 08:56:09 AM
Cleveland Sports Surrender?

I now have to avoid IM for a while, else I will be ridiculed for believing the Browns would win.

2003-09-15 08:56:58 AM
Isn't Jamal arab for 'camel'?

yes, but it's not pronounced ja-MAL. it's pronounced ZHA-mel IIRC

2003-09-15 08:59:47 AM
Jamal can also mean handsome as well

2003-09-15 09:01:21 AM
Don't care!

/checks Fantasy league team and realizes Jamal was worth 30 points to me yesterday

Go Lewis!

2003-09-15 09:04:06 AM
I couldn't care less about this silly record and the boy who broke it, but it certainly makes me look brilliant for drafting him for my Fantasy team.

2003-09-15 09:05:09 AM
295 yards and 2 TDs is pretty impressive, especially when you consider the fact that he lost 15 yds. and a TD to a holding call in the second quarter.

way to go jamal.

2003-09-15 09:06:43 AM
And I predict that Preist Holmes will have a 300 yard game against the Texans next week.

2003-09-15 09:09:22 AM
Yes and Priest will also add on 100 yards receiving.

/Make it so Holmes.

2003-09-15 09:09:57 AM
Priest Holmes is teh r0x0rz

2003-09-15 09:11:26 AM
Saying the Browns Defense played well overall except for a couple long TD runs and 295 rushing yards to one guy is like saying Lincoln had a pretty good time at Ford's Theater except for the getting killed part.

2003-09-15 09:14:59 AM
another fantastic offensive output by the bronws. typical brownies: for awhile there, i thought they would have only a pair of field goals this game giving them a grand total of 4 field goals on the season (scoring MACHINE).

then, as is always the case they gave us fans our sliver of hope that they might actually win the game pulling within a field goal at 16-13. would have been great to trump lewis' day by beating them and stoopid model.

but in the end our brownies stayed true forcing cleveland fans to resort to our war cry of 'wait until we play you later this season'.

2003-09-15 09:32:11 AM
Ouroborus

So he's a handsome camel?

Hey, if I were to be named an animal name, it certainyl wouldn't be after a ship of the desert. They are damn ugly.

Tiger Woods has got it good...

/digressing as is English and doesn't give a fark about American Football

2003-09-15 09:33:00 AM
Someone get the man 5 more yards dammit!

2003-09-15 09:33:18 AM
Hail to the Redskins!
Hail Vic-tor-y!
Braves on the warpath
Fight for old DC!

Run or pass and score we want a lot more
Beat 'em, swamp 'em, touchdown let the points soar
Fight on! Fight on 'til you have won
Sons of Wash-ing-ton!
Rah! Rah! Rah!

Hail to the Redskins!
Hail vic-tor-y
Braves on the warpath
Fight for old DC!

2003-09-15 09:44:21 AM
I SAID go broncos

2003-09-15 09:49:14 AM
Said Ogden: "I figured if he broke the record we'd get the win."

Whoah, way to go out on a limb there and say something insightful.

2003-09-15 09:52:47 AM
Kylie And I predict that Preist Holmes will have a 300 yard game against the Texans next week.

from your lips to god's ears. even if he stays healthy and keeps this pace up, he'll shatter all the single season records.

go chiefs!

2003-09-15 09:53:20 AM
He told reporters after the game that he didn't call breaking the record. He told his buddy on the other team that if they give him the ball 30 times, he'll have a career day. That means quite a few things.

2003-09-15 09:59:51 AM
That's what you get for benching Couch, dammit.

/bitter.

2003-09-15 10:03:14 AM
please note where the are there.... wo0t!

2003-09-15 10:06:29 AM
besides, it was against the damn BROWNS!! I think Christopher Reeve could have broken a rushing record against the damn Browns.

2003-09-15 10:08:16 AM
/bus trip to hell.

2003-09-15 10:47:58 AM
All right! Good thing I've got Jamal Lewis on my fantasy team. On the bench.

/accepting trade proposals for Ladanian, Faulk

2003-09-15 10:53:23 AM
I love the people that are so quick to pick apart Jamal's performance. Like those who say, " if he didn't have those two big plays he wouldn't have been close" no shiat that's why it's great that he made those big plays. There have been way worse defenses in the NFL than the Browns..Lewis was out accelerating cornerbacks and safeties...great performance

2003-09-15 11:01:39 AM
Jbourne Exactly- like the performance would have somehow been more impressive if he would have had 295 yards on 65 carries!

2003-09-15 11:02:01 AM
Yeah, well at least Cleveland's got LeBron and Baltimore has now NBA team, unless you count the Wizards.

2003-09-15 11:06:53 AM
Buffalo is definatly no joke this year and Carolina's Special teams is somewhat cosmically bewildering. Jamal predicted it? That's like Nostrodomus running a 4.1.

/Jag fan

2003-09-15 11:07:16 AM
I wonder if the Broncos D will send him a nice gift for getting them out of that record fairly quickly.

2003-09-15 11:14:10 AM
Thank god the guy I was up against had him on his bench.
