Orange. It was orange - and it wasn't like an ice cream cone. It was, it was more like a shell. You know, it was like this.

They work in advertising. They sell junk food and beer. They eat gigantic hamburgers and they drink cold beers with the baseball games and the TV and the bags of the potato chips that are big enough to feed a horse. They have a lot of fun. They go to baseball games, they have a heck of a good time.

Pretty much this. Many of these UFO guys soon realize what they do is bullshiat, but it brings in so much money that they keep it up. See Stanton Freidmen.

See: Link (new window)

Jim Mosley is the last of the old time UFO guys, doesn't believe much of anything anymore but for him the scene is fun as hell. The older issues of Saucer Smear are free, pre 2005 I think. Hopkins hated Mosley as well, something Mosley didn't share. Read a few issues of Smear, and you'll soon figure out why.

Yes, of course I realize that he made a shiatload of money off of it and of course he didn't really "waste" his life. Not any more than Barnum did, unless this guy fervently believed his own shiat. Even then he still had the money. So he had that going for him. Which was nice.

Forgot Budd was a serious artist, and also apparently enjoyed the occasional aperitif:

Corey Armpriester interviews painter Bud Hopkins (b. 1931). Hopkins was a Cedar Tavern regular, Mark Rothko's lunch companion, and friend of Robert Motherwell. Hopkins is an abstract expressionist artist with works in "the permanent collections of MoMA, the Whitney Museum and the Guggenheim Museum." He is also "a pioneer in the field of UFO research ... and has written books on the UFO phenomena...
