This is why Fark is often worth reading where sites like Reddit are a bunch of naive college sophomores asking for painfully obvious dating advice, drawing rage cartoons, or doing the other things that 19 year-olds do. The naivete is especially evident in the politics area. Believe it or not, Fark is comparably a shimmering MENSA meeting compared to most of the internet.

What is it with people too lazy to hyperlink? You're obviously logged in so the fark admins couldnt have made it any easier for you, just a single click before pasting. Yet you ever try to use the select text on a touch screen?

I wish fark would strip domains that arent hyperlinked

Firefox allows me to highlight any link, right-click, and navigate to it (it even gives me the choice of opening the link in a new tab). I'm pretty sure there's a plug-in to Firefox that "link-ifies" URLs seen in text form.

To be honest, I prefer the URL to be in text form. Why? Because it's easy to make the text one URL and the actual link another. At least when I highlight the text I know where I'm going. HTTP gurus, feel free to educate me if there's some non-obvious flaw in this reasoning like maybe unicode characters hidden in the text or magic URL spoofing techniques that could land me in a bad place.

Okay, serious question here... what does that mean, and where does it come from?

I'm guessing these are searches people do that somehow lead them to Fark... If you go to the "Search Analytics" section of their info on Fark, it lists a bunch of "High Impact Search Queries for fark.com", and those terms are among the leaders... But, there are some other great ones in there, too... I think the best one is "young blowjob"... Yes, because when I think of Fark, that's exactly what I think of!

I thought that might be it... but I just can't see how any of those terms could lead someone to Fark...

Do people really think it's unreasonable to use the internet to go to a site so often that you'd find it convenient to simply open to that page? My homepage at work goes straight to a mapping feature I use several times a day, I may be one of only a couple dozen people that use that site as my homepage. Although I understand people's point that the data is inflated for those that have google set as their homepage.

Also, does this data include mobile versions of the websites? I use the mobile pages of the sites much more often. I'm pretty sure I would never use twitter if it wasn't for the app on my phone.

I was first on the internet in 1991 and rapidly found USENET news. Once I soaked up enough rec.arts.tv.startrek I branched out and found in other groups a treasure trove of history and ideas, along with some of the most in-depth, rational discussions and debates on any topic you'd care to name. I discovered libertarianism, learned about Harry Anslinger, and LMAO at stupid user stories (alt.folklore.computers), all in the same "place".

Then AOL got access to USENET, and you could actually hear the mean IQ dropping. Eventually, everything degenerated into flame wars (JESUS LOVES YOU STOP YOUR EVIL WAYS) and spam (MAKE BIG MONEY TODAY!!!!!!1). On the plus side, at least it's no longer illegal to distribute porn on "the taxpayer funded internet".

I only discovered Fark recently, and I'm here to say it's only thing out there that's like what USENET was in the time before web browsers and fire. Thank you Farkers one and all for helping me to recapture a bit of what I thought was gone forever.
