Yes. It is good or bad.

Is this good or bad? Almost certainly!

I tried to watch Bladerunner. I fell asleep.

I do not predict that this would go well. If it does, however, then it will be AWESOME (but it won't).

HawgWild: I tried to watch Bladerunner. I fell asleep.

Similarly here. I have yet to make it all the way through that movie.

Relatively Obscure: I do not predict that this would go well. If it does, however, then it will be AWESOME (but it won't).

Spectacularly awesome. So awesome that you have to stop people around you and point our how awesome it is. Like flipping a quarter and watching it land on it's edge.

But just like the quarter it will never farking happen.

2011-08-18 01:48:04 PM
It's going to suck donkey nuts.

2011-08-18 03:18:38 PM
No, just no. Let it go. The only prequel I would have been interested in was the replicants' escape and trip to earth...and that ship sailed some 30 years ago. Blade Runner is probably my favorite sci-fi (next to Star Wars)...it's great the way it is.

2011-08-18 03:24:25 PM
The only way it could get COMPLETELY awesome would be to bring in MTV Movies to do it right.

2011-08-18 03:40:25 PM
Depends - will Shia LaBoeuf be in any way involved?

I tried to watch both of your ten favorite movies of all time. They stunk.

Considering that the Director's Cut is my favorite sci-fi flick of all time (Theatrical Version is horrible), I don't feel so good about this.

2011-08-18 04:39:23 PM
I think they should farm it out to The Asylum. They could get Tiffany to star as Rachael and Debbie Gibson as Pris. It'd be epic.

I'd tolerate Shiata LaDouche if that happened to him in the first 12 seconds of the movie.. Preferrably while the opening credits still ran.

Movie mash-up:
Zorro! The gay Blade-runner

I don't see how it can work.

Part of the problem was that the first one was very much a cult movie. It wasn't well received and the studios pretty much wrote it off, which gave Scott a lot of freedom when he went to re-cut it into something that turned out to be a masterpiece.

By now, it's remembered as a beloved classic, which means that the studios are going to be throwing a lot of money and marketing at it, and that's a recipe for executive meddling. Considering that executive meddling nearly killed the original (voice over and happy-slappy ending), I don't see it boding well for this one, and that's even assuming that Scott has the ability to catch lightning in a bottle a second time.

I'd like to hope that this is going to be one of those rare cases where the sequel lives up to the original, but the 8 ball is not only saying "Not Likely", it's wailing "Doom! Doooooooom!"

2011-08-18 05:26:12 PM
Probably bad.

I would actually be interested in a movie that consisted of nothing but Shia LaBoeuf being killed.

Which one's the evil leprechaun, Tom Hanks or Kevin Bacon?

Darryl Hannah, but she's not an evil leprechaun, she's an evil mermaid.

Only if Deckard is played by Ryan Reynolds, and George Lopez plays Gaff. It'll be a great buddy flick.

Also, have some cutesy furry creatures help the protagonists.

2011-08-18 06:41:19 PM
What blade is he running? I don't see no blades!

2011-08-18 06:41:43 PM
Lol like this will actually happen. We're talking about RIDLEY SCOTT. The king of attaching himself to projects that never happen, before detaching himself and going on another **1/2 star Russell Crowe flick.

2011-08-18 06:55:34 PM
$10 says they really try and ram down your throat the fact that Decard is a replicant. The original movie hinted at it with grace and subtlety. Modern viewers are dumb and must be spoon fed everything. Therefore any and all remakes will suck. Because the industry has lost the ability to use subtlety and nuance.

2011-08-18 06:58:06 PM
This time it'll have vampires, right?

I mean EVERY movie these days has gotta have vampires in it. Unless they have werewolves in them and look what happened to "The Lone Ranger"!

/mebbe some android vampires, with retractable, synthomesh polymer teeth.

that motherfarker better not do a goddamn thing till "Prometheus" is done, or I'll stab him in the throat with a rusty spoon.

2011-08-18 07:05:33 PM
This is only 100% good. Mainly because it's not my money who ever makes the movie is risking.

It was a great movie, odds of a re-make or prequel or sequel being better than the Blade Runner we love? Extremely small.

But there's a chance....

/Go for it

You're all missing the most important detail: Who's going to play the topless stripper replicant? My enjoyment of any Blade Runner reboot/rehash/shameless cash grab is going to be strongly determined by that highly crucial casting decision.

/say, how about that esteemed thespian Zooey Deschanel? She's got some sci-fi film experience. What if she plays a variant of the character who's totally nude and doesn't get shot and mostly just hangs around through the entire picture being all nude and occasionally wet and moaning while bouncing on a trampoline?
//make that movie and I'll buy many many tickets, especially for the 3D version

2011-08-18 07:17:07 PM
Scott: "So it has a sexy lead with a lot of sex appeal, and a sexy supporting actress sex interesting who is dead sexy. Then there are lots of sexy explosions and we get some sexy CGI landscape shots.

Then we wrap up with some sexy end credit music.

It'll be the blockbuster event of the season!"

It'll probably end up as crap as Tron Legacy.

Bad. Ridley Scott could do it, but the studio will micro manage the whole thing until it is totally FUBAR.

/I liked Blade Runner Director's Cut.
//But I can understand the dislike.
///The first one with the narration was kinda S-L-O-W,

Summer Glau's Love Slave: Bad. Ridley Scott could do it, but the studio will micro manage the whole thing until it is totally FUBAR.

Do NOT blame the studios for "Robin Hood" and "American Gangster". It's a sign that Scott just doesn't have it anymore.

You're on Fark, browsing the various stories, when all of a sudden you look and see a link about a Ridley Scott remake of Blade Runner. And your mouse is moving toward it. You reach out and you click the link. And the link... the link loads the story about the director blaspheming a classic, its memory being tortured for profit, its devoted followers resistant to the remake, but they can't stop it. Not without your help. But you're not helping.

Why aren't you helping?

Wow, there are a few women on there that I wouldn't have expected to look that good!

Also, I never knew that Mira/Paul Sorvino thing, i've seen the guy in a bunch of stuff but never made the last name connection...

Thanks for the warning about Katie the Hutt, I was ready for worse.

bad

2011-08-18 08:16:24 PM
Maybe this time he can tape a big ole "I AM A REPLICANT" sign to Deckard's back so people won't still be in denial about it 30 years later.

2011-08-18 08:25:34 PM
No mention of Soldier? I am disappoint, Fark.

There is no solid information on whether this is a proposed prequel, sequel, side-quel, straight remake, remix or what. What ever develops, if it develops, will not affect the the original.

Everyone panic!

He said pretty much the same thing about doing another "Alien" movie last month, so I'm guessing next month we'll be hearing about him doing a "Legend" prequel.
