Nothing makes Sarah Palin good. Not even Gallup.

Yeah, but how much of that 52% is people like me?

I'm reminded of this phrase I heard once...

When you and a friend are being chased by a bear, you don't have to outrun the bear... just the friend.

The Republican Party itself now has a 33% favorable rating and a 59% unfavorable rating.
[Citation]

I mean, when the numbers in the Republican stronghold of Texas look like this:
If the ballot came down to Perry and Obama, 47 percent of poll respondents said they would vote for Obama. Forty-five percent said they would cast a ballot for Perry.

How the fark is a President that's THAT unpopular leading the Governor of Texas... IN TEXAS?
[Citation]

Seriously, people, approval ratings taken in a vacuum are meaningless... and the Republicans are proving to be very bad at running from bears.

At least the two of us.

And guess what? My being pissed off at Obama is not ever-- ever-- going to make me vote Republican. Not what the Republicans have become, anyway. I will be pissed off, and I will write my letters to the White House, and I will hold my nose and I will vote for Obama because the Republicans are actively seeking to destroy the country.

Obama's approval numbers have fu*k all to do with his re-election chances.

I would be willing to wager (but not pay up) that a significant portion of the voters who disapprove don't think he is too far left.

Somebody needs to post that graph again that showed Obama's popularity starting in 2005 and skyrocketing upwards afterward. That'll make the butthurt go away.

2011-08-16 11:40:11 AM
I'd vote for Palin if the choice came down to her versus Bachmann. Maybe her versus Perry. But neither of these is going to happen, so the point is moot.

Count me in as well. Ya, I'm not happy with everything Obama has done and I think he is way too willing to give the bad guys too much of what they want, but it will be a cold day in Hell before I'd ever vote for what the Republicans consider to be a viable candidate for president.

See, people will vote for him because without having to worry about re-election, they can hope he will be more liberal his second term.

People will also vote for him because the Republicans have a high likelihood of shifting further right rather than towards the center after the primary is over. When the voice of your party is still screaming that Republicans lose elections by not being conservative enough, the chances are another far right reactionary will be tapped for VP.

If they pick another far right individual, they will piss off moderates and independents.

If who ever wins picks a moderate, they will piss off their base.

2011-08-16 11:42:56 AM
Obama's poll numbers are a combination of two groups: conservatives who never liked him in the first place and liberals who think he's sold us out kowtowing to the GOP.

Short of killing my family in front of me and using their blood to fertilize the White House garden, however, very little he does will make me look more favorably on Sarah Palin.

2011-08-16 11:43:08 AM
Allow me to join the chorus of people who while are dissatisfied with the president, would under no circumstances vote for a Republican in this election cycle. Or any election cycle in the near future until they clean their shiat up. Meaning, drop the fundies and the Teatards. Until that point, my chances of voting for a Republican are 0%.

2011-08-16 11:43:13 AM
Didn't the Republicans take the house in 2010 with similarly awful approval ratings?

/Not happy with Obama
//Would vote against him in a primary
///No way in hell I won't vote for him in the general. Republicans are scary - can you imagine Michele Bachmann or Rick Perry with nukes?

And let's not forget that his competition is pathetic. I mean, it's a repeat of the 2004 election when the Democrats couldn't put a decent candidate up against Bush to walk away with the Presidency.

Quick question for those of you who genuinely believe that the fact that Obama is polling in the low 40s means that he isn't gonna win reelection next year:

What were Reagan's poll numbers in August of 1983?

That's why Obama has to get elected. These fools want to eviscerate the country, and tell us it was Obama wielding the knife.

At least the President doesn't get asked questions like these (well, Sarah doesn't either except by the bloggers):

Where Trig?
Where Willow?
Where are your and your spouse's wedding rings?
Where did you get that fantastic toe polish job?
Where did you put the Newsweek push-up bra that was obviously lacking in Iowa?

WHAR!?!?!

I know I'm new to the whole political statistic manipulation thing, but I love how our glorious, fair, not-at-all corrupt media is pushing disapproval as the new Rating that Counts for this President.

"Sure, poll numbers indicate that he has average to above average popularity compared to other Presidents over the past five decades but the people who don't like him HATE him. And HATE means more than regular ol' disapproval. Don't you see the HATE here, folks? The HATE here is off the charts! I know his popularity is okay to good but FEEEEEEEEEEL the RAGE."

King Something: Quick question for those of you who genuinely believe that the fact that Obama is polling in the low 40s means that he isn't gonna win reelection next year:

According to Tea Party lore, I believe the correct answer is 100%. He wasn't as high as his 152% approval rating in 1989, when he punched Gorbechov and tore down the wall with his bear hands, though.

2011-08-16 11:48:28 AM
I'm sure a big chunk of people's disapproval comes from libs because of him caving to the GOP over and over again and being way too right of center, but they'll never vote GOP anyway. The other big chunk is because MUSLIM-SOCIALISM!

Headline from Sunday:

Obama approval rating dips below 40%. This is bad news... for Obama

Looks like his approval ratings are going up. Sucks for you guys!

Some Republicans want to be caught by bears, so long as they can get to a gas station or airport bathroom first.
