Yes, but that's just the commercials.

If I have to watch any more of those stupid commercials they have on early in the morning when only demented old people are watching TV, I swear I'll age at twice the rate I'm aging now.

The ones I really hate are the reverse mortgage commercials: let's burn through our home equity and die! Leaving everything to the lender. After sixty or so, your financial acumen declines rapidly and you make terrible mistakes. God preserve the elderly from early morning TV and their heirs and assigns from reverse mortgages. For God's sake, if you must piss it all away, give it to the Sierra Club or some other right-wing conservationist organization with too much money donated by old rich people!

Coincidentally, I just watched two one hour recorded shows, and timed the commercials at almost exactly 22 minutes per show. All glory to the Hypno-- er, I mean the fast forward button.

That explains why the average life expectancy of HBO, SHO, AMC and FX viewers is 22 years.

FTA Researchers say that watching too much TV is as dangerous as smoking or being overweight, and that the "ubiquitous sedentary behaviour" should be seen as a "public health problem".

Correlation != causation, farkwits. It's not the TV watching, it's the being completely farking sedentary for an additional 4-6 hours a day. The very same health problems stem from an office job, or simply sitting in a chair, staring at a goddamn wall.

Hey guys! Amazing science going on here!

So, get this, People who sit their fat asses in front of a TV for extended periods of time are going to die younger... Yep, 22 minutes for each hour of TV watched will promptly be deducted from your life. The TV is evil folks, and can be blamed easily and concisely. 22 minutes. Science, biatches. No other lifestyle choices and patterns correlate with heavy TV watching. The TV is to blame. Complete causation.

These king of figures are dumb,

Holy crap, this isn't an argument for a Jersey Shore marathon, this is an argument for a Jersey Shore channel.

Then again, I suppose that's what MTV is.

Bless you, MTV. Clean up that gene pool. Now we just need a way to intensify these effects. May I suggest some sort of TV-mounted cheez ball cannon and piss bottle combo set?

I almost forgot since it's practically a given, but regular MTV programming should also be interlaced with a powerful, radiation-emitting, gonad-sterilizing screen pattern.

Anyone who spends six hours a day in front of the box is at risk of dying five years sooner than those who enjoy more active pastimes, it is claimed.

Researchers say that watching too much TV is as dangerous as smoking or being overweight, and that the "ubiquitous sedentary behaviour" should be seen as a "public health problem".

The reasoning here seems specious to say the least. It seems that it's not the mere act of watching TV that reduces your lifespan, but the act of remaining immobile while doing it. By the same reasoning, therefore, if you watch TV while on a treadmill, it could be said that watching TV increases your lifespan.

A more accurate summary of this study would've been that they've used the rates of people's TV viewing habits compared to lifespan to reach the conclusion that chronic inactivity can have adverse health effects. Well farking duh!

He could have been saying "I think your dumb is starting to spread" or "I think your dumb is infecting others here on Fark" or any number of things. Hell, now I am curious as to what Foreground My Ass whas trying to say....

Poor Uncle Ted, he could have lived past the age of 35 if it wasn't for all the television he watched.
