Stop letting kids go to class without their shots. Make all school required shots free. Then start charging parents with child endangerment if they don't get the shots.

And make sure the shots can be given at all hours for parents that work during the day. Hold week long events at the schools that run from 5 in the morning until 10 at night.

Intentionally turning yourself into a walking public health hazard by refusing vaccinations is no more a belief than it would be a belief that you should be able to smear yourself in feces and run around the school slapping people with a raw fish. You don't get to just arbitrarily declare that the way you think is a legitimate belief and make everybody else kowtow to your insanity. We already make distinctions between beliefs and stupidity. This is stupidity.

People who refuse vaccinations for anything other than a legitimate medical concern should be offered a choice: you can either stop being a moron and get vaccinated or you can have a free ticket to Somalia with the condition that you are never allowed to return to civilized society again.

sssshhhh that's evolution in action. when they die we can have their stuff.

it's gonna be these farks that bring back such diseases. i was among the last to get measles when it was a common childhood disease. most in my age group have never had it. many kids today will be the same way with chickenpox. i am 28 and only met a few others in my age group to have had measles, most tend to be older. it's rare now and will get media attention. this would amuse my grand parents.
even as a kid i knew why many adults had that circular scar on their arms. i was glad i didn't have one, but i would have accepted it even then because i knew about smallpox.

I had a fraternity brother whose parents made this wise decision, recognizing the Well Documented and Scientifically Peer Reviewed work of Doctor McCarthy.

He got polio when he was 10. He ended up with a hand that turned in when he relaxed and forgot to hide it, a life-long limp, and one foot that was 2 sizes small than the other. He had to buy 2 pair of shoes to get a working pair.

Great work, Doctor.

The second part of this story will be when a bunch of Latino kids in Miama-Dade get sick, and a few of them die. And the national media will pretend that the $5 shot was wildly unaffordable, racist, and proof that we need socialism.

You can stop them from going to public school and endangering others lives though. This is no different than the requirement for many health care workers to get vaccinations. No, you won't get held down and given a shot if you refuse, but you won't be allowed into a situation where you can harm others.

AverageAmericanGuy: Public education is a right, and the government must make allowances for those who opt out of certain procedures that violate the beliefs of its pupils.

This is the most poorly-constructed argument for this side of things I think I've ever heard. Most of our rights-- even the constitutionally-guaranteed ones-- come with responsibilities. Whether your beliefs align with those responsibilities or not, they are prerequisites to the exercise of those rights. For example:

The "don't yell fire in a crowded theater" responsibility that comes with freedom of speech.
The "you can't be a cannibal for religious reasons" responsibility that comes with freedom of religion.
The "maybe you've had enough" responsibility that comes with the right to get drunk and a drivers' license.

I see no reason to make an exception that endangers the public, when everyone already has the right to choose to attend public school vaccinated or seek education elsewhere. We don't let students attend school armed or naked, regardless of whether they have religious beliefs that require these things. And the list of offenses for which students are removed from school is a mile long.

Nice straw man there. I said nothing about kids, you made the (stupid) comment that we "can't legally or morally force someone to put something they don't trust into their body" (you can see it quoted above, too!). You are wrong, as we do it all the time. We force people to give blood samples (sticking a needle in someone is putting something in their body) without even convicting them of a crime. We treat children (and give them shots of possibly life-threatening substances) without their consent. Soldiers are forced to get shots.

What a dishearteningly stupid thing you've said. You have no right to inflict serious and preventable diseases on anyone else no matter how dumb you are. If you're going to participate in society, your rights are limited by their impact on everyone else's rights. Being a walking tuberculosis timebomb would be one such limiting factor on your rights.

In many cases they no longer innoculate for diseases because the vaccine causes more sickness than the disease itself.

Jenny McCarthy was heeded.
Now vaccinations, though needed
have been eschewed.
Will illness ensue?
Her folly, it seems, has succeeded.

In Miami-Dade county they've got
a quarter, almost, kids un-shot.
The kids aren't to blame,
They're part of this game.
But they'll reap what their parents have bought.

Personally, I believe in societal Darwinism. We shouldn't just let the poor stay poor and uneducated or allow them to die from diseases because they can't afford medicine.

But, I also believe that after people have been educated about medicine, if they're going to ignore it because of what a pair of tits told them on Oprah, then I'm OK for them to take themselves out of the gene pool.
