Heh.

Oh, this rendition of "Oh Canada" is horrible. I love the Canadian anthem, but this is wretched.

anyone maybe with a radio dealie know how long the delay is?
I've also got a Yankee game to watch, and I don't want to sprain my thumb repeatedly hitting the 'last ch.' button on the remote

Helluva good rain delay...

Yes! I was hoping for a smackdown

My guess is the delay will take at least two hours (given the size of the cell and drying the track). If anyone needs me, I'll be battling the toothless at Wally-World.

Aww, cute rain delay dog! Although now I've got that part of the song stuck in my head

Raindrops keep falling on my head

I don't know the rest, so that part's on a loop

Hey all, well time to fire up the PS3 and run Watkins Glen and see how many walls I can smack.

well, whenever we DO get underway, Said, Montoya, Smoke and of course, Vickers or Kahne

Johnson went from crying about Kurts on track behavior on Sunday to really being bothered about him running his mouth on Monday. Someone must have watched the replay of him turning down on the 22 and decided maybe he was in the wrong. Nice deflection.

Because Im freeeeee. Kurt Bush is nothing like meeeee.

This is going to be a long, boring rain delay. I'm going to go play some GTA and run over some people. I'll be back later.

I'm betting this rain delay goes until tomorrow unless they put on some rain tires.

2011-08-14 01:32:37 PM
Well, that was abortive. Got through the anthem and the skies opened up.

And from the looks of the radar...this could take awhile.

They don't do the rain tire thing for Cup... which is idiotic.

----

Looks like ABC/ESPN's clever plan to run the Cup race then show the Indycar race at Loudon in 2 hours is in danger of getting botched.

Ah well, if the rain stays, we can have a repeat of the Pocono/Mid-Ohio thread.

Hey kids.

Your old Monkey pal has limited internet, and no TV in the computer room. So i guess it's a good thing that we're getting rained out today. I'll be able to enjoy the race tomorrow from home.

Fingers crossed, I might be able to watch Summerfest tonight.

Rain delay? Boooooo!
Between the rain and the power/cable outages at my place today, this is not looking like a good race day. I agree with vw - looking like a good nap day.

Debatable. Looking at the radar, they might have a window in Loudon to get the race in.

/I thought the IRL had rain tires and lights for this sort of thing?

Random thought, but IMO, they should have to race on the full course, boot included

They used to, but then J.D. McDuffie crashed where the 'bus stop' chicane is now, and was killed. That's why that chicane is there.

Loudon's an oval, so no dice for IRL.

But NASCAR, c'mon. Nationwide's run in the rain twice now. NASCAR Canadian Tire Series did it at Trois-Riviere's last week. Get these Sprint cars wet-capable already!

It's too bad that race isn't scheduled about an hour earlier.

He just looks uncomfortable me.

Hey, it's Biffle. If there was anyone I'd like to see win a Sprint Cup, it's Greg Biffle. Because he's the only one with a legitimate shot right now to win a championship in all three top series; he already has the other two.

No, they didn't. They ran the first race from there from the late 80s on ESPN Classic a while back - they've never used the boot. They went straight from the back straight into the sweeping corner, then into the cut-through, same as now. Only difference is the chicane.

2011-08-14 02:17:39 PM
Dale looked uncomfortable, Biffle makes it clear he is already disagreeing with his crew chief and Mark is just blathering at this point. ESPN is going to use up all their chatter pretty soon, aren't they?

2011-08-14 02:20:30 PM
Notice how Junior only spoke about how it was the enthusiasm of *other people* that kept him motivated.

McDuffie's crash was on the short course. It is what finally had the track build the bus stop/inner loop entering the carousel.

The Boot is a part of the track NASCAR has never raced on. It starts at the exit of the carousel and runs, you guessed it, in the shape of a boot, before rejoining the track on the straightaway between carousel and what is now turn 10.

My mistake.

You're correct. They used(and still use) the "Six Hours At The Glen" configuration, which omits the boot. Interestingly enough, if you look at the track on Google Maps, there was a race going on - and there are cars running on 'The Boot'. So it's not a NASCAR race, lol.
