No wonder she grew up to be an artist.

Cat duster slippers
Feel like your cat is, well, lying around and not doing enough around the house? Why not strap these cat duster slippers on its paws so that your kitty can help dust your floors as it strolls around. "Obviously you'll have to ignore the fact that they lick their anus ... then lick their paws, thus spreading cat anus all over your nice new floor boards," Brandish.com says.

AN,

I prescribed 2 ounces of gin, rum or vodka, disguised as fruit juice and administered every two hours, for anxiety.

THEN... once BH is home.

Find a book, and a pillow. Place pillow on floor. Lay on pillow. Read book. Ignore kitten. You will be THE most irresistible thing in the whole room.

Repeat entire process on arrival date of the next lil monster...

When I had a new litter of kittens, I would lay on floor for hours and let them climb on me like a rock wall.. to socialize them and familarize them with hoomans. It tickles and it's fun.

Meet Schrodinger:
[i18.photobucket.com image 350x255]
This is an old pic - he's three now, and a great, healthy cat. But he is a terrible territorial marker.
Whenever he gains access to a "forbidden" space, he's very likely to mark. Same when a new object - especially one belonging to a woman - is brought into the house, he will often mark it.
And there is one particular armchair that he has ruined by marking it until it was soaked.
He is healthy, with perfect blood and excretory studies. He was altered as a young kitten.
He uses both the litter box and the outdoors freely - and never craps anywhere wrong or pees on a horizontal surface - it's all spraying vertical surfaces.
I have tried cleaning up and using repellents - no dice. I have things covered with plastic - and that saves the things, but he still has sprayed some covered objects.
I am currently trying a pheromone mimicking spray called "feliway", but I am beginning to think that purchase was an example of a fool and forty dollars being lucky to get together in the first place.
The problem has been somewhat ameliorated, but not solved - and I need some new ideas.

We had the same problem with Cooper. He is much better now and no longer sprays. I have some things you can try to curb this behavior. (sorry so long)

Just to make sure it is nothing medical, you should take him to the vet to make sure he doesn't have a urinary tract infection. If he checks out medically, then you can concentrate on trying to take care of the behavior issues. There is a great article on Cat behavior that helped us find a solution for Cooper. Working with our vet, we determined that Cooper has some social anxieties that were causing him to spray. With our vets advice, we tried several different medications until we found one that works for him,

The process to find the right medication is not a fast one. It can take 2 - 6 weeks or more on one medication for it to build up in the cats system and start working. Then, if it isn't the right medication for your cat, he must be weaned off the medication slowly before you can try something else so patience is a must. With the assistance of our vet, we decided to try Prozac. It worked for many months but then Coop started spraying again. We upped the dosage and again, it seemed to work for a few months and then stopped working.

We tried a couple of other meds before trying a generic form of Paxil called Paroxetine. He has been on this medication for a couple of years now and it has really made a difference. The Paroxetine, along with a Feliway collar has calmed him enough so that he no longer sprays. He does not act drugged out and is not a zombie. He still has some social anxieties but is like a different cat.

I highly recommend that you download the article, share it with your vet, and work with your vet to find a medicine that will help your cat. We love Cooper and getting rid of him was not an option for us. With a lot of hard work and some trying times, we finally found a way to have him be a part of our family. I hope for the same for you and your cat.

And a picture of Coop...

Something. Ain't. Right.

Are you certain this kitty had both nuts cut??? This sounds like an unaltered male. Is there any possibility he has a retained testicle that didn't get found?

And let's talk outdoor/indoor

He may be marking "indoors" because he is low man on totem pole outdoors... try keeping him exclusively indoors to so he is not exposed to other males and their scent marks... thus, triggered to mark his territory, which is inside your house.

Thanks, guys - As far as medical, he has been to the vet - no urinary problem, nuts were properly cut. Based on the low incidence of the problem, and his otherwise normal behavior, vet doesn't think he has an anxiety problem.
The part about an alpha cat outdoors might have some merit - he has a safe outdoor space, and two brothers to back him up, but there is one aggressive neighbor cat he doesn't like, who comes around (although the last time they got into it, Shrodinger kicked his ass and sent him home with an injury his human had to treat)). We have three cats altogether, and they are all indoor/outdoor - and we live in a big, old Victorian house that the cats have about twenty ways in and out of. keeping him inside would be pretty complicated. It does seem to be happening less and less frequently, and maybe he will outgrow it. Right now, he is beta of the three, and in friendly rivalry with the alpha (both other cats are much older - over 15) - maybe when he gets to be boss he'll knock it off altogether.
Anyway, thanks for the help and advice. I'll check out that article.

L33tSquirrel: 30 isn't as bad as I thought--I turned 30 in March. It just makes you realize that anyone under 25 now thinks you are old and stupid, trust me. Then again, when I was 19, 30 seemed ancient. Now I wish I was 19 and feeling 40 instead of 30 and feeling 60. I had no idea there were so many just-30s on Fark....everyone's turning thirty this year, it seems.....

So I'm feeling all stabby today.

My cousin found a kitten that someone threw out of a car. It between 2 and 3 months old. Limps on back leg and has stuff all over front legs and feet. I come home and go a close look at him before we go to the vet and I'm starting to get mad. Get to the vet and confirmed what I was thinking, kitten was abused. The gunk was hot wax that was poured on him and his back leg was broken though the tibial plateau. They had to sedate him to get the wax off and now his poor little feet are raw. We have to treat him like he was just declawed. They're also going to cast his leg in the hope it knits but no guarantee it won't have to be amputated in the next few weeks. If it does manage to heal, he will be gimpy (which I don't mind, we already have a gimpy cat, a one eyed cat, and heck, I'm gimpy). It just ticks me off to no end that someone could do that to a kitten.

Done with rant
Want to do same thing to these rejects

Also, I'm 30 next week, so I'm gonna get a head start and just begin feeling old now.Happy 30th!!!!
I was pretty bummed at 30. Don't sweat it...you won't realize how young you really still are/were until you're fifty.

(and I probably won't realize how young fifty really is until I'm seventy)

I agree yobbery. When I turned 30, no big deal, 40..just another bump in the road, but I just turned 50 and holy hell. I cried all day.

Sheesh! When you consider the alternative (death), 50 should be looking pretty good right now. lol And 30?! A mere babe in the woods.

For some bizarre reason, it's the ones that end in 5 that get to me. 25 was a biatch (a quarter of a century!), 35 was brutal (closer to 40 than 30!). Strangely, 45 was bearable.Hopefully 55 (in less than 10 months) won't kick me in the ass like the first 2 did.
